  1. Very good answers from all of you. though I don't think the question was silly at all. It was a what if question. Something to play with. Everybody approached it from many different angles and avenues and gave me much to chew on. I thank you all very much for your insights. If anybody else would like to chime in please do. Mord
  2. Sounds very cool Jeff. try sending them to CMHQ. http://go.webring.yahoo.com/go?ring=combatmission&id=2&go Matt would probably post them. Your Dad sounds like a really interesting fellA! Take care. Mord [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 12-05-2000).]
  3. I had a question last night that was in a thread that was locked up. Seeing that there were three paragraphs I'm not sure if my question was the reason or other stuff that was said before hand, or just the thread in general. So here goes. If the Axis had won WWII do you think that eventually Japan and Germany would have come to blows? How did Japan fit into the scheme of things with the Third Reich. The JAPANESE were not exactly Hitler's wetdream version of the Aryan superman. So if they had won would the world have been big enough for both? I have read where the officers and other members of the Reich looked at Russians as subhuman yet they were closer in Race than the Japanese. Would The Reich feel the need to cleanse Japan later on? I think this is a good question and it's something I have wondered about for a long time. If this thread should get locked up please email me with any thoughts you may have. If this question was the reason the other thread got locked up I apologize ahead of time. Mord. P.S I know...I know...I misspelled references [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 12-05-2000).]
  4. NBCI.com is pretty decent. The layouts are totally customizable and fairly easy to use once you get a handle on them. The Templates can be altered to the point where you'd never know they were templates. I think you'd like this site. And unlike some sites, no one sees your pages until you want them to. The site stores all your work until you are ready to publish the pages. No need for under construction signs. Good luck! Mord [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 12-05-2000).]
  5. I did my duty for Combat Mission. I live in FLA so I hope I voted right. Well I suppose I am ok 'cause unlike the rest of The Sunshine State I'm registered in MD. Mord
  6. I had a game where every vehicle in the op, all 66, were wiped out on the bridge. Everytime the crews evacuated they ended up coming out below the bridge and not on it. Mord. [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 12-05-2000).]
  7. I agree with Computer Ambush being the CM of it's day. It tried to basically simulate what we are playing in CM. Just lacking the graphics. But it's amazing how cool something as simple as X's and O's as soldiers can be. Your brain takes over what your eyes can't see and those letters become desperate soldiers fighting for their lives. My brother used to rant and rave over that game. Sometimes I miss those simpler gaming experiences. I'm glad I was around to have seen them. My brother and I always joke how his son will talk about how archiac Mortal Kombat was when he is older. I doubt he has ever seen a game of Pong! And in another vein I have the original Car Wars and Truckstop boxed sets and all the add on packs from Steve Jackson Games. I never knew there was a computer version of this game. Mord
  8. Try this place... incase you haven't been there yet...you'll blow a gasket! Have fun! http://go.webring.yahoo.com/go?ring=combatmission&id=26&go Mord P.S I posted the link because I am not sure which site you got the ASL stuff from. If you have already been there sorry for the misunderstanding. [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 12-05-2000).]
  9. I keep hearing people saying things about justifying Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Why would anyone need to justify it? Both the US and the Brit viewpoint of the situation are correct I think, I don't see it as justification, it saved American lives and it ended the war, that's exactly what it did. If it's because there wasn't much of a military presence in either city, so what, it's war and not one that Britain nor America started. Not trying to pick an argument or make anyone mad just laying out how I see it. I never understood why the US had to give Japan a formal apology over that either, the situation called for the bomb and that's what was used. No one twisted the Japanese's arm into fighting. (Something that always made me wonder is how the Japs fit into the whole scheme of things with Germany. The Third Reich never struck me as a place for orientals. So if the Axis had won would Japan and Germany eventually have come to blows? The Japanese don't exactly fit the Aryan master race model)Anybody have any comments?
  10. Matt you gotta head over to that place and bust some heads. That damn server has been down atleast 10 times in the last week. It's gotta be driving you...well..Mad. Mord.
  11. Ok here are a bunch for the Intellivision the most underrated console of all time. These guys were so advanced that they had plans for modem head to head gaming around 1983 I think. They also had the first games for a TV that talked! It always cracks me up that Intellivision was always over shadowed by the WAY inferior Atari. I have some fond memories of Atari but it was never as good..NEVER! Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Treasure of Tarmin: (the very first First Person view game I ever saw, it included hit points, armor class and going up in levels) This game came out in 1982! Sea Battle: great naval strategy game my brother and I use to have a blast with this. I can remember many a day kicking his ass with my PT boats. You could lay mines, sweep for mines and even take damaged ships back to port for repairs. Any of the Intellivision sports games. Boxing, Football that had actual Defensive and Offensive plays that you could run! Baseball, Tennis, Skiing, Bowling, being my favorites. Microsurgeon: A really cool game where you went inside the human body and killed diseases and tapeworms and tumors with a little robot, kinda like Fantastic Journey or Voyage whatever that movie was. Astrosmash which I got over a million points one day in a marathon session. Dracula: You had to find victims and drink their blood. Each night you had to drink more blood. If you turned into a bat you used up blood quickly. You had to get so many victims before the sun came up. If you weren't back in your grave by then you died. These are just a few of the great games this system had. All classics! I could go on and on. Intellivision is definately one of my great memories of being a kid. anybody interested can check out this link. It's a real blast from the past http://srd.yahoo.com/srst/21232197/Blue+Sky+Rangers/1/1/*http://www.webcom.com/~makingit/bluesky/
  12. Actually I had this very same thing happen to me. I had an HQ unit that the computer placed in a building, a small one, and I was using this mod, anyway the building wouldn't turn translucent. I just ignored it, and kept playing, but thought it starnge. I'll keep my eyes open for now on. Mord
  13. Seal Team by Electronic Arts was one of the most engrossing military games I ever played. It was set in Nam and a pretty darn accurate portrayal I felt. From the gear you carried, to the planning of your missions, down to searching villages, fleeing civilians, and the NVA and VC, it was cool. If and when a fire fight started if you and your squad of three other guys didn't have the upper hand you usually didn't make it out. I can remember many a night hunched up close to the monitor looking for VC as my men slunk through the bush. And I can remember all the semi heart attacks I had when missions went bad and I had to pop smoke and wait desperately for a dust off. It was an intense gaming experience. I've always felt this was an underrated game and had always hoped it'd get a remake to bring the graphics and game play up to date. It's a top notch Vietnam wargame, one of the only ones I know of actually. It was well worth what I paid for it. Mord
  14. Tris said: His work is outstanding, too. Just look at those vehicles--some detail over here, a touch of color there . . . . Yep I totally agree! He definately brought this vehicle into the light. Absolutley Beautiful. Mord [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 12-03-2000).]
  15. Being a big Mel Gibson fan I felt the Patriot was about an hour and a half too long. They should have ended it right after Mel had his first little violent fit. Leaving in the really cool canon ball scenes of course, which were right up there with the exploding head scene in Glory! To add to the list: When Trumpets Fade The Long Riders(Western but great gun fights) Lonesome Dove(Incredible Book, Incredible Movie, also a western.) Side Note: I spent last weekend in WWII movie heaven. Watched When Trumpets Fade, a Bridge Too Far, Great Escape, and a colorized version of The Longest Day Which believe it or not Looked really GOOD! I never once thought hey they colorized this. Seems like it was colored with a different technique than some of the other efforts i have seen. Hey anybody remember The Inglorious Bastards? 16. I wouldn't even worry Don...these buildings are FANTASTIC! and you've done a bang up job and many as you see, appreciate your efforts. If they are a little dark to some screw 'em! You efforts are first rate and noted. Thanks for adding that much more depth to my CM gaming pleasure. Impressed as hell, Mord
  17. Been wondering what happened to you Gary...I see you have been very busy! good work as usual buddy. Mord. P.S Ended up getting the V5500...You were definately on the mark about the 4XFSAA
  18. That's the beauty of having choices fellas...you can use both sets depending on your mood and setting. Switching them depending on the scenario can give you a real sense of locale. Just one more reason why this game kicks ass! Thank god for the mods! Mord
  19. Twenty five bucks sounds fine by me. I've paid more for a hell of alot less than what Tom mentioned. I like the idea. If it happens Great! If not well we are that much closer to CM2. It's a win win situation. Mord [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 12-01-2000).]
  20. So it's an abstraction...the guys were wandering around in the rooms of the buildings looking for access to the next one, members of the split squad find a hole or crack in one of the rooms and head on over. Once there they shout out orders for the other squad members to follow their lead. Next turn they reunite safely, they join back up and continue the fight from their new position in the adjacent structure. There I solved the Gamey part!! Well it sounded good to me.... Mord
  21. Basically cycling through the command will let you see what options you have as far as targets go. Not using any your soldier/tank will target whatever it feels is the strongest threat. Using the Next Target Command you will see some choices you may have missed if you just used the Target LOS or nothing at all. Atleast that's how I see it. Hope that helped. Mord
