Don't forget in all this discussion of how many blast points land within a certain area with a certain calibre etc that for a FO with a LOS to the target the impact zone is not a circle, its only about 100 metres by 50 metres in size. If you drop a bunch of 155 into an area this size virtually anything inside is likely to be hit fairly hard.

They had a Stuart in the Hero parade? Dang I should have gone afterall.

Has anyone tried "Super HiRes" Grass ?
LuckyStrike replied to Pascal DI FOLCO's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Run a blur filter across the grass .bmp, it has the effect of reducing apparent pixellation by smoothing color gradation between adjacent grass pixels. -

Absolutely agreed. I only buy the big stuff now and find I win far more games that way. For some reason opponents are always surprised when 155 starts to land, but for the cost of an infantry platoon for 1 FO the damage potential from 25-30 rounds of this stuff is simply enormous - and its also effective versus armor.

"station" unbalanced?
LuckyStrike replied to Robert Olesen's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
It should be available at the scenario depot but if it isn't send me your email address to Lee_Vincent@xtra.co.nz and I'll mail it to you. Its a great battle, part of a series of Bulge scenarios by the same designer. -

Lewis, In order to kill men standing (or lying or whatever) on the ground, a shell fired at them must impact a POINT ON THE GROUND, so that the shell may explode. Therefore, one aims the shell AT THIS GROUND POINT TARGET, not at the men. Of course one's GOAL is to kill the men, but one must LAND the shell somewhere to do that. How much more simple can it get? If you do not agree with the above, please tell us what exactly DO you aim a shell at aside from the ground (in the case of men in, say, an open field) so that it might be caused to explode? How do you suppose HE shells function? [This message has been edited by LuckyStrike (edited 01-26-2001).]

Which is most Dangerous?
LuckyStrike replied to Warren Peace's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Is that a wartime shot of a lend-lease Sherman? I know the Russians used small people for their tank crews -
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Big Time Software: Just a few things I want to clarify. 2. We do not use a "to-hit probability table" in any way, shape or form. The core basis of our to-hit equations is a Gaussian function. It has a "bell" shape very similar to the accuracy curves that people have posted in this thread. Charles <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I assume when you say you are using a Gaussian bell shape you are just taking the right half of the bell, such that the maximum hit probability, which would be the mean (highest point) of the bell, occurs at the minimum range. Given the current CM gunnery/ballistics model appears to be flawed, this thread certainly needs to be kept alive. bump
