  1. I must admit I truly long for CMX2 but the desert looks really nice and the cloud of dust effect is excellent. Is it me or does the Grant/Lee tank have "TARGET" written all over it?!?!
  2. Currently Playing: CMBO, CMBB America's Army:Operations - excellent Multiplayer FPS, realistic, and best of all FREE! Rise of Nations (Demo): if you liked Age of Empires then you should love this, I'll pick this up soon. Looking forward to: CMAK, CMX2 Battlefield Command - as mentioned, it looks amazing and is being developed by the same team who created IL2. I look at it as being everything GIC wanted to be plus 100% more. I have high hopes for this one...I believe it is still a year away. Call of Duty - WWII FPS from the team that created MOH:AA but now with Activision. I have read it is more intense than MOH:AA and squad based. I really enjoyed MOH:AA so look forward to this one, due this Fall.
  3. I just did a clean install of Win2000 on my C drive, replacing Win98. I had my HD partitioned into C and D drives. Both drives were Fat32, I reformatted C before I installed W2k but left D alone. I had CMBO/BB on the D drive. Both CMBO/BB work fine in W2k. Is there any compelling reason why I should remove and reinstall CMBO/BB?!?! ps. I love W2k, and I am kicking myself for waiting so long to finally pony up and buy it.
  4. fsaa fixed by the Alt-Tab trick?!?! could you enlighten one so ignorant as myself?!?
  5. I know they are legit, as here is an article showing the peformance improvement using them. Tech-Report Det 44.03 Review I am DLing them now form Nvidia's site. Will let you know what my experience is. Update: 44.03 work fine with CMBB. I am assuming Rune that you just got a bad link. [ May 14, 2003, 02:09 PM: Message edited by: kking199 ]
  6. Congrats guys. I figured this would happen as soon as a Publisher made a reasonable offer... I think your strategy for this is solid. Upgrading graphics and adding more scenarios at the current same online price is a good value. Seperating the two games and their release is also wise. Amazing what kind of leverage you have when you take some risks and create outstanding products! To those worried about BFC selling out... you are obviously blind or never read any comments from any of the BFC guys. I do have a question. Since you are releasing this updated Retail version of CMBO, what will you sell online? Online version at cheaper price or retail version at same price?
  7. I pretty much play CMBB exclusively now due to the improved engine, the only exception would be a Large Campaign game I am in at BoB that's focus is the battle around St.Vith... so we are using CMBO for that. I do prefer to play as the Americans so I could see hanging up CMBB with the arrival of CMAK. Russian stuff is fun but it just has not "grabbed" me. It also will be nice to at least understand what one side is saying/screaming during a battle!! Don't get me wrong, I love the real lanquages used. However, I am not gonna sit with my translation list while I play... Hit Play... strange Russian text. Ok.., hit Pause. Lets see that was... "Help, my hair is on fire". Cool ok next, hit Play. German, sounds like he is mad... hit Pause. Ok... I think that is "Gunter you idiot, you just shot Jurgen! Yikes, fratricide is never fun. Hit Play again... sounds like Russian command.. Pause, Rewind listen again... Rewind... what the hell is he saying, Rewind.. ok Pause think I got it. "You have 2 ways to die, with a German bullet in your chest or a Russian bullet in your back, you decide!!" You know the Russian Political Officer really did have a tough job! Ok, 10 seconds down of Turn 2 of this 30+ turn battle!!
  8. I think Battlefield Command is everything we wanted GI Combat to be... and a whole lot more. I have high hopes for BC based on the developers. I do not see it as a direct competitor to CM, I will buy BC and CMX2. I will agree that it should be a message that the CM graphics need a major change to stay current.
  9. Here is my $.02 cents, and this is what I thought before Moon's post. CMX2 is going to be much more "flexible" than CM. What this means to me is that once the engine is done (terrain, AI, graphics, pathing) it will be relatively simple to plug in whatever "units" you want. I see the engine or the virtual world being created so that any type of unit can be simluated. So you want a Modern War, just plug in modern units, you want WWII you got it, you want Civil War, can do. So with this type of flexibility BFC can create any type of War Simulation they want. And... it would also make the "Engine" quite licensable too!
  10. Ran into this article intially from HomeLanFed News... which linked to VoodooExtreme, www.ve3d.com , the BFC mention is at the end of the quote. "Sony Registers 'Shock & Awe' Slogan 10:03 AM - Andrew "Andy" Burnes - Games: General News - (86) Thanks to Kevan Mander for this news: Japanese electronics giant Sony has taken an extraordinary step to cash in on the war in Iraq by patenting the term "Shock and Awe" for a computer game. It is among a swarm of companies scrambling to commercially exploit the war in Iraq, which has killed more than 5,000 soldiers and civilians in the space of three weeks. MediaGuardian.co.uk has learned that Sony is set to launch a computer game called "Shock and Awe", having registered the defining phrase of the coalition's military campaign as a trademark in the US. It registered the term as a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office on March 2 1 - just one day after war started. It wants to use it for computer and video games, as well as a broadband game played both locally and globally via the internet among PlayStation users. The phrase, coined by former US navy pilot Harlan Ullman, was adopted by Washington to describe the fierce bombardment of Baghdad on the second night of the war - the military tactic designed to bully the Iraqi resistance into submission. A spokesman for Sony PlayStation in the UK admitted the company might not stock the game in Britain and Europe owing to political sensitivities. Update: Kevan got back to me and mentioned that Battlefront.com, makers of the Combat Mission series of games have registered the name 'Operation Iraqi Freedom.' " So just what are you BFC boys up to?!?! First you pull a rabbit out of your hat called CM:AK... what is next?!?
  11. Hey Crapgame Intel and AMD processors are very comparable and you would be hard pressed to tell a speed difference between the fastest from each. AMD processors are stable, but some chipsets have not been too stable. Currently the Nvidia Nforce2 is the hot chipset. I have an Nforce1 MB and it has been the most stable MB I have ever had, it is an Asus. If you are going build your own then, whether Intel or AMD look at MB's from Asus and Abit, they are more expensive but they are also packed with features and rock solid. DDR is the defacto standard, all the more so because of dual channel memory. RDRAM is still more expensive. I would stick with DDR personally. As for Video Cards I have been a Nvidia user now for 3+ years. Currently have a GF4 ti4400. If I were buying a video card right now I would take a serious look at the ATI Radeons. All the feedback I hear and read is very positive. As for fog and smoke I could not answer. I'd just post another message asking Radeon users for their feedback. If you're gonna buy it I would recommend going with an online purchase, Dell or Gateway. Simply because the build to order and you get the latest Hardware at the best price.
  12. Wish they had filmed it, the pictures alone look better than most war films battle scenes. Authentic uniforms, weapons, armor, light armor, explosions, dogs and cats living together! MASS HYSTERIA!!!... I digress. Looked liked a lot of fun. Thks for the pics.
  13. I am bumping cause this is a great thread!! Thanks for the Info guys! I also just saw the program on the Discovery Channel about training M1A1 crews. Firing the .50 Cal looked like A LOT of fun!!
  14. same here, BFC is this correct?!?! is everything ok?
  15. and there was much rejoicing!! I will go ahead and answer the 1.02 question.. NO.
  16. Hey BFC, played a user created Operation called "Surprise at Paislinis". Myself and my opponent finished the Op with no problems but we got different results. I the Germans and the attacker finished first and the battle listed it as a Tactical Loss which seemed about right. My opponent with the final file was listed as a Total Victory. Obviously something is amiss here. I and my opponent would be happy to send you our files and PWs just let me know where.
  17. GamersEurope gave a short but glowing review of CMBB. GamersEurope CMBB Review
  18. At the Entertainment Depot, I even included a link this time! Entertainment Depot CMBB Review
  19. Just wanted to say how impressed I am with the AI of armor when under attack. In particular when a tank of light armor/small gun gets in the sight of a tank with heavy armor/big gun, say a early T-34 comes under attack of a Tiger. The self preservation AI works great, in fact I have come to just let the AI figure out the best place for cover. Show me a game with better AI! Long live the BRAIN!
  20. Interested as well, crossed my mind about a week ago. It was CompUSA, and since we are on the subject anyone been in a CompUSA lately to see if it is still on the shelves? I only go to CompUSA if it is an emergency and no other store has what I need.
  21. Never run into this site before. Seems to be primarily a sight for action types but nonetheless the guy really liked CMBB, his gripes were minor. I am starting to pay more attention to what typical games a site reviews and what scores they give to help get a feel for how bias/unbias their review of a game is that I am interested in. For perspective this same site gave GI Combat a .5 of 5, Medieval: Total War 4.5 of 5 and WarCraft III 5 of 5. It is good when action sites give CMBB a thumbs up. Remember that there has to be a good deal of RTS junkies who are getting older (let's say 21+) and are startng to look for a more "mature" game.
  22. Seems pretty simple to me. I played a ME QB, put alot of points in some heavy armor, got bogged, got mad and decided to blame someone else for my bad decision. Gee, sounds like a typical American to me! Chance of bogging pretty simple. If it is dry open ground, chance very low. If it is wet ground, or scattered tress, and as my armor gets heavier chance of bogging goes up. Like Steve said, do I risk the road, or do I risk the ground?!?! This really leads me to one of the highlights of my childhood, I was probably 12 when this happen. Me and my best friend broke into an old truck trailer out in the middle of a field. It had nothing in it of value, we knocked over a box and heard the cling-clang of metal on metal, sounded like keys. They were, and 2 had the John Deere insignia on them. Hmm I thought, there are 2 tractors on the other side of the woods and I think they are John Deere. Off we ride and sure enought they are. One is a track type and the other is a large wheel one, you know like with 4-5 foot diameter wheels. The keys OPEN the doors and start both of them! At this point we are both beyond words. The tractors are close to houses but I am determined to drive one into the woods. I decide to take the one with wheels because it looks easy to drive and I figure it must be faster. My friend jumps in with me and away we go. We drive down a road that has recently been built with like one house on it. Then we take it off-roading! Woohoo! I let my friend drive and I start playing with the shovel. We almost flip it when he gets on uneven ground and I have the shovel at a high elevation! Oops! Man that was fun, knocking over trees, digging holes. This was a shining achievement for us 12 YO boys, much bragging rights with that one. Thanks for digging up that memory!
  23. Well said kipanderson. I for one would also be interested in a modern combat simulation. Yes the maps would need to be larger, and Air assets would play a greater role, but part of the fun would be doing what-ifs?!?! Mountain Forest fight versus Open Desert, etc. Regardless of what theater and/or time period BFC chooses I just want 2 things, a real campaign mode (as I am a Campaign/Operation junkie) and I really want to see more graphic detail (no not gore, go play Quank for that) I mean detail. Guns with crews firing, reloading, sighting. Tank wheels all moving, vehicle tracks on the ground, better smoke implementation, mortar crews dropping the round in the tube, MG teams with a guy feeding the gun, etc. I also fantasize about seeing a Fighter/Bomber over the battlefield...
