1. Excellent! I only wish I had the talent to help out!
2. Can someone tell me if this is on purpose or just a simple error. When I bring up the Detailed Unit Information Window for the 28mm Heavy AT Rifle it says it's "Main Weapon:" is 20mm?!?! Which is it?!? It seems the same thing occurs for the 42mm LePAK41 ATG as it is listed as having a 29.4mm Main Weapon. I did not do an exhaustive search on this but it is also possible this in NOT an error. Anyone shed some light on this?
3. I believe the Air Force was tasked with creating the craters on the beaches for D-Day, the bad visibility lead to their poor accuracy... And no it is not as simple as little craters do not provide cover and big ones do. Little ones can provide cover but some don't. Do what Cameroon suggested and place your movement cursor over the crater to verify if it is a "real" one or a fake one. I guess the fake ones are just really shallow craters?!?!
4. Can anyone out there provide some insight into the 2 prevalent Soviet rifles in WWII, referred to in CMBB as the SVT-40 and Mos.-NG. What ammo size? Magazine/bolt?!? Accuracy?!?! How did these compare to the M1 Garand, the Kar98?!?!
5. bump... BFC, do you guys send out copies for review?!?!
6. Just curious why we have not seen any on-line reviews of the game yet?!?! I love reading reviews, kinda curious to see how the press reacts to CM:BB, since it is a known quantity now.
7. PC here, I burned a copy without problems. I decided to install from the Burn since it was in the drive, it failed, not sure where as I stepped out of the room, when I came back in my computer was rebooting. I then successfully installed from the original CD. I can use the burn CD to start the game. Edit: I used NERO 5.5.9 [ September 25, 2002, 11:45 AM: Message edited by: kking199 ]
8. I know NOTHING about guns but I wonder if the "ammo" used would have any substantial effect on a gun's sound?!?! I would guess that it could.
9. I can't say CC went down hill as much as it never evolved or really improved any, same game different theaters. I will always have warm thoughts of CC:ABTF, man I loved that game.
10. One I could remember... lol. The campaign 29 Let's Go, I am the Germans, after hurting my opponent badly in the first battle he adjust his tactics (starts using his Arty well) and has been pushing me back. It is Battle 5 and I am in trouble, have a hidden 75mm ATG. 5 Sherman's crest a hill about 230m away from gun. 5 shots, 4 dead Shermans in one turn! It was a beautiful thing.
11. Let the BFC boys keep the dough that boxes and cd cases cost. Not to mention that a box is unnecessary since it is not sold in stores. As for a jewel case just hijack one from one of the many inferior games you already have!! (I agree with Wwb anyways since I think my CM:BO disk never left the drive for at least 6 months straight at one time) Welcome Ex-WW2OL player, I recently ended my subscription which I started with their promotion in Feb of this year. I so much still want WW2OL to be what it could be but I am not sure the Rats have the talent to do it and I am certain that cash is becoming a serious concern. What I saw was guys with a great idea of what they wanted WW2OL to be but no clear idea of how to create it, certainly no coherant plan. I was VERY tired of the Carrot on a Stick ploy to keep people with the "Next" version. Not to mention that I never got the impression that any of the Rats team were real Grognards. Ultimatly all gamers should want WW2OL to die for one simple reason. So that never again will a publisher force a developer to release at best an Alpha product, and then have the nerve to charge $50 up front plus $10 a month to help beta test it!!! I'm just glad I got it at OfficeMax for $10!! Contrast that with BFC. Die hard Grognards, obvious excellent programmers, won't release a game till it is done right! Bless you BFC! ps. (I was Kong99 in WW2OL and part of the BKB)
12. Hey Tankboy74, glad you made it! Tankboy74 was the key master and led us around to all the different buildings where the AFV's were stored. He also was bestowed CM:BO for all his work and has discovered the joy and the dark side, CM addiction! ps. Where are all the Pic's guys?!?!
13. What a day! I still cannot believe all the different armor and vehicles we saw today! Better yet we got to climb on and get in many of them! A HUGE Hooha to BlackHorse (and the other great folks at Fort Knox) for setting this up and giving us the grand tour! Then the M1A2 tank simulators! I'll never look at my PC the same way again. And yes that 40 mph to 0 stop did make my stomach do a few flips. (to keep you from getting completely jealous we were in the "Driving" ONLY simulators). The "piece de resistanc" (I am sure I butchered that one, lol) was CM:BB! Wow, cool, kick*ass, awesome. I would say more but MadMatt kept saying this was a secret and that was a secret that I can't remember which so I figure I better just keep my mouth shut! The number of units is simply staggering and the sound is AWESOME! I cannot wait to crank this game up on my system! BattleFront.Com, Combat Mission, and the great folks behind it are truly a gift from the gaming Gods. Thanks to all who provided the goodies today and it was a sincere pleasure meeting all who were there.
14. I'll be there as well. Live in Lex, KY. Been to the museum once before, it has some great tanks there, Tiger(with a cut-away on part of the armor to show how thick it is!), T-34, plus other cool stuff like a Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust. I am looking forward to checking out the museum with folks who love WWII stuff and of course CM! It will be really cool if we can check out the stuff in storage!
15. I wonder if the effectiveness of the 105 is shock and psychological. I would think that a 105 round hitting your tank would rattle your brain a bit. Especially in a smaller vehicle such as the Hetzer. Would not even an HE round create alot of dust and shock inside the tank? I am sure the noise could be a bit frightening too. Thus wouldn't this make it difficult to respond well, such as returning accurate fire. I think my initial response as a TC would be to my driver to Reverse! I have always wondered what the experience is like inside the tank when taking hits, it can't be fun, even if you are in a beast like a Tiger or JagdPanther.
16. Long time CM'er, part time lurker here, I spend my time, daily, at Band of Brothers. I am in Lexington, KY and would love to join you guys as well. I went there about 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. Has some great tanks there.
17. After trying different versions of Via4in1 and Nvidia drivers, and trying the 686B Bug Fix and PCI Latency patch without success. I decided to try and move my SBLive. That was it boys and girls. I have 6 PCI slots, using only two, slots 3 (SBLive) and 4 (NIC). I moved the SBLive to slot 6 and all is well. I have sinced upgraded back up to Via4in1 version 4.37 and Nvidia 23.11 I have read previously of issues with SBlive and Via products and figured what the hey. I would love to know what the ISSUE is, what exactly is the conflict, but moving the card did the trick. Specs: Win98SE, DirectX 8.1 T-Bird 1.2Ghz Asus A7V133 256 SDR Ram GeForce DDR (Hercules Prophet DDR-DVI) SBLive! Linksys NIC What is odd is how long I had no problems with my system, I would say 6 months of very stable use then lockups. The SBLive, Via conflict is a known issue (The A7V133 is a Via chipset MB). Some type of resource conflict as certain PCI slots use certain resources, IRQ addresses etc. Anyway hope this helps!
18. I second all comments, despite the rather simple and amatuerish website BTS has not only produced a Game that will be included in any respectable list of the Top PC games ever made but also has demonstrated that customers come first. Combat Mission is a fantastic strategic and action game without gratuitous violence. I have purchased many many PC games over the years, probably around 50. There are only 2 Games that I have played longer than a year. Half-Life, and it's associated mods(TFC, CS) and Combat Mission. From the viewpoint of value, Combat Mission would be the hands down winner. It is such a great game and value that paying $100 would still have been a good deal. (don't get any crazy ideas Steve and Charles!) As for buying over the Internet, I do understand your reservation. I have bought countless times over the Internet. 3 basic rules I follow. Always use a Credit card, (DO NOT use a bank debit/credit card, ie the cards that bill directly to your bank account.) ALWAYS make sure you have a SSL connection, make sure the little Lock symbol is ON at the bottom right of Internet Explorer window when sending Credit Card numbers. Lastly, trust your gut. Kevin King
19.
quote:
Originally posted by Speedy: But it was done 5 years ago by some high school kids.

I knew it!!! LOL And AD you might be consumate Lurker! Long Live the Lurker!!
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Panzerman: Wow get rid of the pirate flag... thats like a BTS trade mark or somefink. The sandbag background is good as well. And if people are turned off because BTS has better things to do then work on there website (like work on the Games!)...then thats there problem. Thats just 10 cents from an young CM vet.

Ok.. they can keep the Pirate flag. But, remember you have grown accustom to the look. It really looks like it was done 5 years ago by some High School kids. And if people are "Turned Off" then BTS most likely loses a sale, which is not good. My opinion is backed up by a MBA in Marketing with experience in managing/developing websites. Like I said fancy is not needed, just need to give the site a more "refined" and "solid" look. Thats all I's gots to say! Now leave me alone so I can get back to lurking!
21. LOL.. is there something wrong with lurking?!?!. Frankly there are a few members here who would benefit from lurking instead of posting their worthless drivel or obviously inflammtory comments. Nonetheless this is by far the best Game Forum I have EVER participated in... period. I attributed this to two main facts. More mature audience, ie. we are all 28+ years old on average and the vigilant moderation by the staff at BTS. I cannot tell you how much I have learned here from simply lurking! Thanks again BTS for creating a fantastic game and forum! I am sneaking up on my 1 Year anniversary of playing this game. That is one year of almost daily play, and almost exclusively CM on top of that! Now all I need to be happy is to convince BTS that their website needs some serious overhaul work, visually in particular. I am 100% convinced they have lost sales due to the rather amatuerish look of the site. No need for flash or fancy stuff, just change the sandback background and get rid of the cheesy pirate flag! 22. Episodes 1-3... Excellent. Equaling SPR in combat scenes. Acting, effects, details, realism all top notch.
23. Could someone please explain then what the "Long 76mm" was?!?! Just ran across this referenced in a book about the Battle of the Bulge.
