  1. Hi, I can not find the place to pre-order? Is there one in English? What am I doing wrong? H
  2. "You Jammy Bstrd" Is what I would say. I would then put you on my list to play again and hope that I would have the same luck as you so I could do the same to you!!! H
  3. Just one small thing to add. If you place a TRP with no LOS to it how will you know if the enemy is there. I have done this in the past and it does not work or is too much of a gamble to waste all those points. Place TRP's where you can just about see or just behind where you can see to. Artillery is way too expensive to waste on empty ground and correct use can win the game for you. Always remember the cost of a unit and then you tend to use it more wisely. I just had a game where I had a 150 spotter (green) and while I messed up the TRP's I still managed to win and that was through good use of the 150 on actual visable targets. The TRP's would have helped big time but use arty on targets that you know exist. It is too important otherwise to waste. On another point I had a chap who used all his big hitters on empty buildings in the belief that I was in there in force. He was scared to move his spotter closer to the action to get good LOS and had no TRP's. As Fionn (I think it was F) would say if you are scared to lose a unit then it aint doing you any good. Move the spotter forward behind your forces and get LOS otherwise the arty is really wasted. H
  4. Right the Sgt has been a decent chap and finished off the game. Result known (as if it hadn't been since quite a few turns ago.)TB to be notified. That is me finished all games done and awaiting AAR's from my opponents. Tero I expect more than the one you have posted so far!!! Hurray up the rest of you lazy sod's and get the games finished. Me I am off to Kirby Hall to see if I can spot a Tiger on Sunday.... Cheers H
  5. Hmmm so you are not a nocturnal creature which is resident in a night house in the smelly part of your country? Ohh that was a fun day out taking in the smells!!! And they call it a tourist attraction. LOL H
  6. Penultimate turn sent out... Awaiting those in Kiwi land to wake up after their Friday night out... Hmm I guess I will have to wait a long time... H [ August 09, 2002, 05:49 PM: Message edited by: Holien ]
  7. TRP placement is an art and I would love to learn it. I have just finished playing a game where I had plenty of TRP's but placed all of them in bad locations. Has anyone any advice on how to choose locations for TRP's? In Fact I shall start a new thread... Above all place your mortars well back from the expected action and do not move them until you have run out of ammo. CDIC played me in ROWI in a night game and failed to understand the use of TRP's this lost him the game. In other games I have played TRP's have won the game for me when I have placed them well. H
  8. If you have a TRP and you don't move the Mortars they can fire at the TRP without LOS. Otherwise as mentioned use a HQ with a bonus to put them as far behind a HQ as possible. Failing all that, put them to the rear and keep them out of harms way... H
  9. Hi CDIC / Chaps... You just can't please some people. Anyway nice discussion and it has brought out some design considerations for trying to make games based on historical actions. All a designer can do is to catch a flavour of the historical situation. If the designer catches that and produces a stonking nail bitting game then that is surely enough? I have yet to play the game and I have avoided reading some of the spoilers but was surprised that the Brits get some vehicles. This does not cause me a problem as long as they could have been air dropped or landed by landing craft. If it aides the gaming experience then all well and good. I am certainly not expecting an accurate reflection of the situation. I above all want great game play and a good challenge. As for the magazine is it legal to scan images and send them to other people? The article on the battle (from memory) is very good and gives you a good flavour of what happened and the pictures of then and now really convey the action that took place. If as a designer you wanted to reproduce a smaller part of it then that would be easier. I congratulate CDIC for suceeding in giving a large scale portait of such an action. Looking at the setup I have a lot of choices to make as does my opponent and once the weekend arrives and I finish my last ROW game I should be able to finally get the show on the road with my patient opponent. H
  10. Hmmm someone is spending too much time looking through key holes... H
  11. Me Me Me Me.... Pickle Me.... H P.s. Does that mean I have to buy the game as soon as it comes out?
  12. A solitary MG Wooden bunker un supported is not worth worrying about. The MG will maybe supress one unit but if you send a platoon rushing towards it you should be able to overcome it quickly. This is a problem in the current game and fixed in the new release. However, if the bunker is supported by a platoon hidden nearby, then the above tactic will ensure that your men are mown down. If it is supported then the Arty on nearby cover will aid your endeavour. I would send a 1/2 squad forward 1st to see what is there. All of this is really dependant on the actual terrain and what you are up against. Regards H
  13. White4 be careful of the Sgt he is a Titan in disguise and will eat you for breakfast, lunch dinner and tea. I have sent an undercover agent to Kiwi land to discover who he really is. By the way placement of specials is everything and I am sorry to hear that they are nearly all gone. Battle on, battle on and may the force be with you. H
  14. Final turn from Frunze and the result is known... AAR out in the morning. Just two turns left to do with the sleeping Kiwi. Wake up Sgt... H
  15. CDIC, I have still to play this game and ROW II has taken all my CM time so far. From the comments here I am in for some fun. I have just phoned through the order for the magazine and you should get (fairly soon via air mail) a copy of:- Issue No. 109 (Published August 15, 2000) THE VAAGSO COMMANDO RAID The Canadian Unknown Soldier. It Happened Here - Trieste. Pacific - Bora Bora. I have still to find my copy but that is understandable as the house is still a tip and we have only just got the guest room painted and ready to put the furniture back in it. I throughly recommend "After the Battle" magazines as they give a great treatment of many battles. The web site is www.afterthebattle.com Anyway back to work, let me know when you get the magazine what you think. Cheers H
  16. Hi Wolfie... Frunze was going strong with me last night. We did maybe 3 or 4 turns. We are on I think the last turn, so he might be trying to clear our game so he can concentrate on yours? H
  17. Good morning chaps... St Mere Eglise looks like it will be finished today as it is all over bar the shouting. As for Sgt Lucky Bstrd that will not end soon enough... Turns out and I am now off to fill time in between turns. I.e. Work... H
  18. Frunze come back and fight!!!! Sgt Lucky Bstrd run away and please do not come back... Please please leave me alone I can not take it anymore!!! H P.s. Turns out and the count down to the end has begun....
  19. Cpl Carrot, I here by promote you to Sgt Lucky Bstrd... I have some interesting views on that game and I should have gone with my original thoughts. Anyway the pain should soon be over and I hope the farmer uses buck shot rather than solid slugs. As for Frunze thanks for the turn. I guess if you are unhappy I should be happy. The game has gone far better than my initial thoughts would allow me. I just hope the Cpl has not sunk me. Doohhhh. Anyway the games are slowly comming to an end and I shall have to start preparing myself for a new front and better tatics to over come MG's, rather than the simple run and baynet routine that works in this game. Must do some work.... H
  20. Down to 5 turns in "Another Day" and I wish for a better day. I await the wakening Cpl in Kiwi land. If you listen quietly you can hear him snorring.... As for St Mere Eglise that is in the end phase and should be over soon. America is awake but Frunze must be hard at work... Me I am off for some Tea and Tiffin.. Tatta for now... Send me fix asap chaps.... H [ August 05, 2002, 03:57 PM: Message edited by: Holien ]
  21. A wonderful weekend of action (even if it did not all go my way). We are within 8 turns of ending both outstanding games. The progress has been stunning and I have lots to write up this week. H
  22. Hmmm I go away for a few hours and all this happens. This is a crock of poo and I hope Mr Madmatt and TB sort things out. I totally understand TB's frustration and while I do not condone the deed I understand it and hope that the Forum administration come to some agreement on how this is handled. As for the way it has been handled so far then I can see that there have been previous precedents where people have called out other forum members for bad behaviour and not been padlocked for that. I seem to remember a chap in another tourney being accused of cheating and the words used by the accuser were as harsh as TB's. But no action was taken there. I do hope there is one rule for everyone and things are not selectively applied. Anyway play on and I am sure it will be all sorted. Winecape have you anything to add? Regards H
  23. Ahhh there you are Cpl, You really should have had some food as well.. Of course I guess you are in the throws of Winter over there. Here in the UK it is torrential rain and flooding around York. Ahhh the wonderful UK Summer. Anyway I have just woken up, done my duty and sent you the turn. Frunze was wonderful yesterday and we managed to bat out quite a few turns. We are certainly on target for the deadline in both games. I have heaps of AAR material to jot down later this week. Cheers H
  24. Hi TB, I had some time on my hands and just popped in to see how the Titans tourney was progressing. When the first threads started I was reading them until they got all tied up in negoiations. After that I stopped reading. I had hoped to see some AAR's when I read this last page. Hmmm How Wrong were my expectations. I do hope the issues can be resolved and I totally understand your frustration and sound off. Good for you. Your efforts in our tourney are outstanding and if I meet you in public I would slap a beer in your hand and insist you drink it. Cheers H P.s. I think I will keep an eye on this thread to see what happens. Beer in hand.
