  1. If my soldier has a M7 GL weapon and is carrying both "grenade" and "66mm HE" rounds...are the "grenade" rounds the anti-armor rounds or just normal grenades? For the anti-armor rounds...how effective are these in taking out tanks? Basically, what thickness of armor can the rounds penetrate?
  2. I've heard that in real battle, the Allies used WP rounds against the Germs because the smoke produced by them would get sucked into the ventilation system of the German tanks and force the crew to abandon the vehicle. Can anyone confirm this and is this modeled in CM?
  3. On some of the scenarios I've looked through, the designer has showed literal use of crack units on the battlefield. Sometimes, the entire platoon has either crack or vet units in it with +2s in abundance. Is this rare? It would seem that a crack unit would be pretty rare to find in a company...maybe one or two at most.
  4. My Sherman M4A1 tank crew have managed to get 2 guys shot and are now down to 3 men: Driver, Loader, and Main Gunner. I'm now concerned about their effectiveness going forward. 1) Will this effect their firing rate of the main gun on another tank? 2) Will they only fire the main gun or can either the main gunner or loader take over if they feel it's better to use the co-axial(?) instead of the main gun for infantry? 3) What other limitations/penalties will they incur because of their situation?
  5. But one of the unmounted jeeps does show in the UI that there's a bazooka with ammo for it. Why is this?
  6. I noticed that one of my jeeps is clearly showing that it has a bazooka and rounds stored in it. And yet another Jeep doesn't show anything, but when I ordered men to climb aboard and take a look, they found a bazooka and a crapload of rounds for other weapons. Why is one Jeep showing ammo in storage and another doesn't until I board it?
  7. Close Combat ceased being the same game once they changed the CC2 engine. CC3 and everything after it sucked.
  8. BTW...I've noticed some things about the website that irk me. 1) Why do you have red text on a green background in the Scenarios Detail section? It makes it very hard to read. 2) Why doesn't each scenario have a download to it?
  9. A better way of putting it might be...how would a Veteran leader with a 0 morale modifier compare to a Regular squad leader with a +1 morale modifier?
  10. One thing that I don't understand about leadership is how a veteran squad leader can have a -2 modifier for command or morale. If they are vets, shouldn't they at least have a zero command/morale bonus if not a positive one? In addition to that, if a leader is supposed to provide the squad with better leadership, how does a negative rating for command/morale affect a vet unit as opposed to a regular or green unit? Lastly, if the leader and assistant leader are both killed, do the modifiers (positive or negative) still get passed down to the rest of the squad?
  11. The problem I find myself currently in is that the hexes in this game are too large to allow you to direct the vehicle exactly where you need to be. In a current game I'm playing, my AFV is too far away from the bocage to get his nose in there. Ordering the vehicle to drive closer isn't possible because the next allowable point is across the bocage.
  12. Are there certain mods which almost everyone agrees that they make the game better? Please point me in the right direction to download these as everything I'm currently using is stock.
  13. I'm not sure if anyone's ever asked this question as I can't find it in a search for the topic. Can you do this or not? It seems like shooting over low bocage is doable but what about high bocage? Can you shoot through that with a tank or not?
  14. It seems that the best way to do an arty mission is to set the duration for Maximum. If you don't need to use all the arty, then just kill the mission. What purpose does it serve to order a mission that's smaller than the Max when there's no penalty for calling in a Max strike and then ending it short?
  15. *************** WARNING: SPOILERS FOR LAST DEFENSE ****************** I knew it was low bocage. What I didn't know was that there weren't any openings in it for infantry to get through. What look to be small gaps were merely graphical mirages which can really mess with newbies' heads.
  16. I was wondering if anyone has put together an Excel file or anything that details what the firing rate is for each of the tanks in CM. I'm specifically curious to know if there's a difference between the M4a1(75) firing an AT round and a M4(105) firing a HEAT round and which is the best to go head to head with standard German armor.
  17. I think I mentioned some of these in my own H2H thread but I'll state them again here. Les Charne - Good H2H scenario in the fact that it's very balanced. Allies have better use of tanks while Germs have better use of Anti-tank weapons. Fighting is confined to a small space although there are some options for flanking. 7/10. Last Defense - Also a good H2H battle. Allies might have slight advantage on defense. If you're attacking with Germs, you better know how to use artillery effectively. 7/10. Bloody St. Omer - Playing it now and after being only halfway into the battle, I can already say that Germans have the advantage on defense. There are deadly surprises waiting for the Allies, ones you would not expect as there are no warnings in the briefing. Other than that, the map is very well made and more interesting than the other two. 8/10 (so far)
  18. Looking at low bocage vs hedgerows in the game, I just realized that hedges are more evenly cut while low bocage doesn't have the same height in all places. So I guess you can tell by looking at it up close. I just don't understand why the old hedgrows graphic was traded in for this...At least you could tell the difference with the old game. And why hasn't a modder come forth and made a terrain mod to make these 2 items more discernable???
  19. I ordered my infantry to go to a point around what I thought was low bocage, and yet much to my surprise, my infantry went right over the top of it to get to the destination. Since it says in the manual that bocage isn't passable by infantry, I assume what I'm looking at is a hedge instead...even though it looks exactly like low bocage. Is this correct? And if so, is there a mod that differentiates between the two so I don't have to guess what I'm looking at?
  20. What's the story on the new software? Why did they get rid of Vbulletin?
  21. It's not that I'm worried about malicious files. I just think the grid takes away from the realism when you're playing. So I'd like to be able to toggle it on when I'm plotting my turn and then switch it off to play the video.
  22. Instead of having to install a mod to get a grid that tells you the elevation of the terrain, why can't we get this as a stock option to toggle back and forth? That way, you can use it when you need it but turn it off when you don't want to see it.
