  1. Steve, thanks for ringing in on this topic. What are some good sources (English-language) that one can follow these events on? So far it has been mostly youtube for me, and only some of those are in English. I also have seen that real-time map site, which is ok but just one source from one side.
  2. Gave up about 25 min in after embarrassing myself, so I am going to start fresh -- First try, the New Checkpoint was overrun in the first 5 minutes, my supporting fires were too little, too late. I am also thinking I had the checkpoints engage too early, they should have waited until under 200m to buy time and have a shock effect. I thought I was being too cautious with the supporting vehicles (wasn't sure if the village they start in was friendly or not), but after taking too much time, then not enough, I rushed too many vehicles forward and lost a bunch, at which point I decided I had failed the mission and it was time to take a break and start fresh. Very challenging, I hope to learn more from this!
  3. Agreed, though I found that though the AK platforms on the ranges I have been on (with optics at 100 yards) tend to not shoot match MOA, they don't jam 1/10th as much as the more accurate AR platforms I have seen across calibers. AR's just seem to continuously jam, and this is with an owner who was meticulous and now a licensed firearms dealer here in CA. He definitely kept his guns cleaned and lubed, so if his AR's are messing up regularly, I can only imagine in the dirty field. But they sure are accurate
  4. I would love to see optics -- whenever I watch the real-life optics in the many conflicts world-wide, a nice set of optics on an AK to me says either merc, special forces (e.g. Spetsnaz) or a well-funded volunteer (e.g. some jihadi's from Chechnya in Syria, etc.). Open sights seems a little ghetto at this point for high-level soldiers at the point of the spear, like VladimirTarasov said.
  5. Maybe I should clarify -- do both sides have to save after the new patch, and then re-open, or does it work fine going forward with just one side who is patched re-saving the file? I saw some weirdness in a game I am almost done with, where I was able to enter an incorrect pw for an opponent's turn (my own fault for not paying attention to what turn it was) and I was able to see his side.... Seems like a major bug! I am not patched, he is, is that the issue? Regardless, if this is something that works for more than just this one instance, unpatched folks would be able to peep in on their opponents... though I of course would never do that, I don't want to win necessarily, I just want to play a real person!
  6. Thanks, much appreciated on this side -- I will see if I can get all my ducks in a row tonight. If my opponent already did the re-saving process, would I still have to do it on my side?
  7. I'm a little confused on the fine print about PBEM's and mods. PBEMs -- do I need to literally save all of my pbem's in the command phase, patch, and then resume from saved games? Or can I patch and just keep going seamlessly? Sounds like the former, but would like to be sure. Mods -- I have a couple of ones that were sent via PM the day of release. I'm assuming that "take out your mods now" verbiage also applies to those? So does that mean we can't use them again until they are updated by their creators? Sorry for the questions, just want to be sure I do not let my PBEM opponents down, and I am really enjoying the mods that were released so early to us, and are so very awesome.
  8. No worries, all of us are juggling a lot in our lives, i'm sure Hoping to get some challenges on there soon.
  9. Anyone been able to get ahold of Palladium? Our game stalled out, just was curious if anyone else got to finish their game, he's not responding to PM's. Sad, we were just getting to the good part of "Ambush" (or so I guessed).
  10. I did --theblitz -- read my posts earlier in this thread. Nothing from anyone yet, but I'll try again this weekend. I may need to join another ladder as well. Added note -- I didn't run into this "not finishing pbem games" issue nearly as much back in the CMx1 days. Not sure if it is just that things have changed, there are more distractions, etc., but yeah, at this point, ladder play is sounding pretty good vs. wasting scenarios on folks who won't finish it out. I kind of expected more from folks here
  11. I would go with that FM I recommended then. I was re-reading at lunch, even I had some stuff I had to be reminded of (been playing CMx games forever).
  12. I hope activity does pick up -- Out of 6 pbem games I have started, only 2 are still going, people are flakes!!!! It would be nice to have a game where the person is incented to finish the game.
  13. My 2 cents is that youtube vids are better than manuals at this point to learn the game, but if you really want a manual, try FM 7-8, infantry rifle platoon and squad. It's also a great cure for insomnia
  14. My preferred method (which you may already use) is click on it, hit tab, and then the number 1. Also, you can double click near it to move the camera, hit V, and then back it up real quick. That being said, I wish there was a "select next visible enemy" hotkey like there is for friendlies.
  15. I registered on there this past week, but I don't see anyone else on the CMBS ladder. Normally I wouldn't even care that there's a ladder (getting too old for ego over winning), but I do want my turns returned (one of my opponents has now gone almost a week without sending the turn), and a ladder seems like good incentive for the other guy. Anyone else interested, hit me up over there and let's get some pbem's going.
  16. So far, several times in a row. Haven't played the US a ton yet, but is it anyone's experience in the affirmative, that it is at least salvaged sometimes?
  17. Hi all, and hope this isn't a repost -- My luck is that the M25 CDTE guy is the first to eat it when squads take casualties, and I noticed that the weapon seemed to never get salvaged, despite it being a "RPG/Panzerschreck" level force multiplier in terms of the firepower of the squad and what it can kill. Does anyone else notice this, or is it just my bad luck and the game simulating the weapon being damaged?
  18. About to send a dropbox folder request to you, hope a random scenario is ok and that you like being the Americans on the attack
  19. Funny, I remember in the CMx1 days (and I think MikeyD is referring to this), Ironman meant playing as MikeyD just described it, first-person only, no top view other than using the map view (level 8 or 9), and switching using only the plus and minus signs, or units that were visible.
  20. Hi -- Love the games, but the crickets are deafening on the night-time missions, just tons of treble right into my ear. I would turn it down, but then I can't hear all of the other nice noises in the game. Anyone else have this issue, and anyone in the modding community up to tackle this?
  21. My thought is that there are possibly already some B2B/Govt. customers who are on top of this already, but yeah, would be good to see a review. My experience is that Combat Mission is a hard sell, even with other grognards, due to how niche this product is and how varied the Grognard spectrum is in terms of interests. I do my best to evangelize this product to the right people, but a lot of folks get overly intimidated (including myself with the CMBO demo back in the day).
  22. Sounds reasonable to me -- plenty of opportunity given that area to do Company vs. Company, etc.
  23. I don't want to get dinged because of politics, but this map seems to at least highlight where some of the recent fighting is: http://liveuamap.com/en/2015/2-february-terrorists-have-shelled-the-bus-with-grad-during?ll=48.63155;38.37009&zoom=8 Looks like some good possibilities for large-scale (or small) battles to the northeast of town, and also on the rail hubs in the smaller towns further south and to the west.
