Integrity Issue? You decide: Naming of the PBEM game
Ellros replied to jon_j_rambo's topic in Strategic Command 1
I don't see a problem with turn stamping a save file. Makes it easier to tell if you've got the right file coming or going. I'ver used both methods myself. In CM though I always put the turn number after the game name (ie EllrosVs?05.txt) etc. -
Hi Mom! See you in the General Forum!

Cost the Allies too much to defeat you. You caused almost 3 times as many casaulties to them as they did to you, not to mention all the vehicles you destroyed.

Now I've made backups of games before, but they are for my own use. The original goes back into the box and rests on my bookcase for safekeeping, while I play off the copy. I do not spread the copy around. As some mentioned before. I do it to protect the original disk. Now, I don't do it as often anymore, since cd's are long lasting, and most companies will replace a bad cd. I used to do it all the time with games that came out on 3.5 floppies, which had a habit of going bad. Especially on my Amiga ages ago.

"Hide" for tanks also reduces its noise signature I believe, making it slightly harder to detect as long as it does not move.

New games planned for CM system?
Ellros replied to ichadwick's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
What actually transpired on the Western Front between the fall of France and D-Day, four years later? Nothing, As far as I know. Other than the Dieppe raid.</font> -
New games planned for CM system?
Ellros replied to ichadwick's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Technically, what was planned after CMBO and CMBB is this: North Africa/Italy Early western front (1939-1943) and perhaps the Balkans. After that, who knows. The above would be with the redesigned engine. But who knows how things could change. -
Agreed, the sight on the right top, marks it as an M1A2. I'm guessing it's probably some sort of misfired shell during maneuvers in Kuwait (from the tan paintjob). Could be from somewhere else though.

To the Volga...or burning your CPU?

Let's hijack that new Japanese supercomputer to run this Op. Wheeee! [ December 17, 2002, 05:02 PM: Message edited by: Ellros ] -
40 minutes to install? What's he using? a P233?
-
Points value is technically unlimited in a design your own scenario through the editor (but limited by number of units). In a QB, I think it's 5000 per side? (I cannot check for sure since I do not have CMBO installed due to switched hard drives. Have been playing CMBB)
-
Yup, a 233 is going to be very slow with CMBB. You will want to avoid the larger scenarios unless you want to wait a while for a turn to process

Nice to see that people know who the Perry twins are

MasterGoda's Thread of "gRRh! R! HHHGGRRr!"
Ellros replied to LGMB's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
ROFL... I live in Omaha, so it's always a riot to see something like that. -as an off topic note on that... back duriong the old days of the Cold War when we were ground zero for the first nuke strike (when we figured noone would survive), we used to talk about going down and setting up lawnchairs so we could watch the big Indian head get blown off the MoO hq bulding. <shrugs> that post remined me of the olden days -
The actual Csaba is not modeled in the original release of the game. The Psw222 (I think) is filling in for it. When the patch comes out, the Csaba model will be correct. There is a thread with a list of fixes, and included in that is the list of vehicles that will be corrected.

The "debate" about CMBB's Infantry Modeling
Ellros replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Your inability to count is a clear indication that your entire theory is flawed</font> -
IIRC, the monks and abbot took shelter in catacombs beneath the monastery and remained there throughtout the bombing and following battle, emerging after it was over. I read that in some historical text about the battle, but can't remember the title.

Pretty sure it's hard-coded. If it was moddable, I'm sure someone would have made some sort of mod by now, in the year plus that CMBO has been out.

Question on an old Perfect General Scenario

Bad news about foxhole MOD. . .
Ellros replied to MasterGoodale's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
That is correct. Same bmp, just as it did in CMBO. -
Goodbye China - G'idday Australia

Capitalistdoginozland? CDIO kind of looks nice on the page, don't you think? Michael</font> -
Just what I was thinking.

I see what he means. The options are reversed indeed on mine also. When the movie is playing, the button still says "Play", when paused, it says "Pause". Instead of the other way around as wwb described.

Interesting little quirk with vehicles..
Ellros replied to vondeath's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
It's been listed many times before. Some vehicles used shared models to save space on the cd. That will be fixed in the upcoming patch. See this thread... Patch fix list [ November 06, 2002, 11:05 PM: Message edited by: Ellros ] -
Is this a bug or is it meant to happen?
Ellros replied to Mercury's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Theya re called "rowhouses" and the wall between each is pretty solid. Would require breaching charges or more time than the scarion allows to break thru. There are a couple scenarios in CMBO with these type buildings. Cazn make city fighting difficult.
