Is There Product Still Left?
Pvt. Ryan replied to dfgardner1's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
CMBB is, or was, temporarily out of stock. I doubt it will be for long though. Just place your order and be done with it. -
They are great to use when you can't quite get LOS to your target. Use area fire and you will still be able to take out that infantry regiment even if you can't see it. I added a pair of Sturmtigers to one of the pre-made scenarios and it turned out that I didn't need all 30 turns afterall. The trick is not to waste the limited ammo you have. You only need to target every third large heavy building and they will all come down.

BFC, Please increase the # of turns available for QBs
Pvt. Ryan replied to Agua's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
The ammo doesn't necessarily have to be increased. The extra time would be for manouevering over large areas of terrain and giving your infantry time to get where it is going considering how much more slowly you have to herd them along. It would also give you more flexability in using reserves that would otherwise never make it to the hot spots on time. -
Stopping pre-planned-barrage impossible?
Pvt. Ryan replied to Marder's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
RTFOST. When you go to plot an arty attack on turn one the On Screen Text tells you that the orders can't be changed or cancelled. However, the barrage can be delayed by any number of turns, as indicated in TFM. -
It's not the doodads that make the terrain rocky, they just indicate that it is rocky. From what I have seen, the doodads are the only thing that differentiate rocky tiles from regular ones.

Tanks automatically unbuttoning - bug?
Pvt. Ryan replied to Pvt. Ryan's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Can't you mount a video camera on the turret and watch it on a monitor inside the tank? Wait, I finally found a legitimate use for the X10 cameras! Overall, I like the way the tanks unbutton rather than staying buttoned for the rest of the turn, especially the AI since it makes the AI a tougher opponent. But I am only trying to do what is good for them. They better not come crying to me when their heads get blown off. -
Best vehicle pairing in the game ?

A SturmTiger to kill everything and another SturmTiger to kill everything else. -
Tanks automatically unbuttoning - bug?
Pvt. Ryan replied to Pvt. Ryan's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yeah, but those are precisely the situations I am talking about. That's when I want them to button up, but they won't stay that way. -
I have had a few instances where I want my AFVs buttoned either because they are getting close to enemy infantry or there is incoming arty. I manually button up the vehicles, but they eventually unbutton themselves and the commanders are often killed. I understand that tanks that button themselves will eventually unbutton when they think it is safe to do so, but I wish they wouldn't do this when I want them buttoned. Is this a bug, or is it supposed to work this way?

I played my first game to see what new kinds of armor the Soviets would throw at me. I bought a bunch of 88s expecting to have to deal with really uber tanks and stuff. So I am sitting there ready to deal with whatever may come my way, and I see a platoon of Shermans coming my way. I'm thinking, this is so CMBO! My point is though, have you seen the Shermans in CMBB? They definitely need a modder's attention. Many of the other vehicles, although better looking out of the box (envelope) than in CMBO, could still be substantially improved by people with the time and skill to do so. However, CMBB looks great without any mods at all.

I think the buildings were placed on top of the trenches. I haven't tried to do it myself, but I don't think the game will let you place trenches inside buildings otherwise.

You want screenshots ? New CMBB Site !!
Pvt. Ryan replied to antawar's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Looks like it is, but it could be from a molotov that missed its mark, or the ground could be very dry and the fires started by arty or MG fire. -

A COMPLIMENT on the EXCELLENT manual.
Pvt. Ryan replied to Franko's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
My one complaint is that there is no title on the spine. It's going on the shelf with my other books after I have read it, and it should have a title so it is easily identifiable. Because of this flaw I can no longer enjoy CMBB. After all, the manual is the most important part of any game. -
He may have accidentally ordered two, or he ordered one for someone who changed his mind.

Is "neutral steering" simulated visually?
Pvt. Ryan replied to MOREpheenPleeeze's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
If I understand you correctly, you mean one track forward and one in reverse to rotate in place. If so, then yes, that is modelled; at least it was in CMBO, and I doubt it has changed for CMBB. You can actually see the tracks moving in opposite directions. -
Why are skis hardcoded? The modders could have made mods with all their favorite ski manufacturer logos and designs. Think of the product placement opportunity BFC is missing out on. BTW, as far as I am concerned, the sound of the 20mm gun is worth the price of CMBB. It's a shame my ISU152s obliterate them so quickly.
-
Well, now that you have found it... Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! You have been initiated.
-
I'm not going to delete it, but I'm not going to install it on my new computer. I have all the mods burned on a CD if I ever decide to go back to CMBO.

I'm guilty - Scenarios

I was credited in the CMBB manual too! See where it says thanks to all the participants of the CM Forum? That's me!
