Too much info from air attacks?
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Soddball's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I agree. It deserves a bump as the issue raised is an excellent one. Regards Jim R. -
Gridded CMBB Terrain!!!
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Captain Wacky's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Just to throw my 2 cents in as well. I'd be very keen for such a "subtle" style of grid to be done as well. Are you up to having another bash at it Capt W? I'd certainly be all over you like a rash if you did. Regards Jim R. -
Damn! When I saw the title I thought for a moment that BFC included a Jabba the Hut unit for the Soviets. Regards Jim R.

My personal view on the subject is that the late 234 series of armoured cars were extremely rare and possibly BFC considered this fact to reflect reality and therefore categorised them in the armoured section to prevent abuse. I can just picture the recon meeting engagement now... German Puma's and 75mm armed 234's against lowly MG armed Soviet recon forces. Yuck! Regards Jim R.

Or accountants with brief-cases, they bore the Tank crews to death. Regards Jim R.

Divisional Armour available?
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Pud's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
jeez, that woulD've taken some bloody big parachutes to make that baby air-droppable. I assume you mean glider borne instead? Serious question- why wasn't it used in the D-Day landings? Regards Jim R. -
Tough AI troops
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Krazy Canuck's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I had a similar situation myself when my Russian force was attacking the Finns in defence. One lousy Green '42 finnish Rifle squad held up my advance by steadfastly refusing to run away when the wooden building they were in was destroyed by my T34's. I then targetted a Maxim MG, a platoon of Russian rifle squads as well as the MG's of a T34 & a Stuart and still the little bastard managed to kill 15 of my men as I tried to rush his position across open ground while under this hail of fire. Mind you, on the consolation side, it was about the only effective Finnish unit in the whole game as the computer had randomly picked Green troops for itself and although there were plenty of 'em, they didn't like the cold steel up 'em, noooo.... they didn't like the cold steel up 'em. (Spoken in a typical Corporal Jones voice of course). Regards Jim R. -
Thanks for the tip Mick. I look forward to our little stoush on your return but don't worry, your setup file is not sitting in your in-tray at home as I had been told you would be away until around the 23rd. Instead I'm concentrating on my battles with Spanish Bombs & Combined Arms where we are testing out each others force placement and utilisation of said forces to try and find a weakness. Russian Armor in CMBB
Kanonier Reichmann replied to dave68124's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
My view on this is the fact that the T34/76 was so advanced for its day bearing in mind it was first available in late 1940 (from memory). Not only was it the first medium battle tank to have substantially sloped armour to specifically aid its survivability, it was damn fast, low silhouette, significantly low ground pressure to enable it to go just about anywhere and finally, it also had a bloody big gun for its day which was at least the equivalent of its main rival's 50mm versions (German) and 40mm versions (British) in terms of AFV penetration and far superior in terms of HE effect on soft targets. The other thing worth noting is that the Sherman only became available on the battlefront around mid to late 1942 i.e. almost 2 years later, yet was not a substantial improvement on its Russian predecessor in terms of AFV penetration and soft target effectiveness while being easier to hit because of its tall design, poorer ground pressure and therefore less flexible in all conditions, easier to penetrate (initial models at least) and slower to boot. That's the crux of the matter in terms of best tank of WWII. It most certainly was the absolute standout contender for the early period of the war. Whether the Panther trumped these very same benefits later in the war is a matter of personal opinion. Regards Jim R. -
DEDICATED CMBB MOD FORUM??
Kanonier Reichmann replied to AUSSIEJEFF's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Well, put me down as all for it. To be honest I don't see any downside but certainly see plenty of upside to such a forum. Plus, it encourages people who simply love the game to maintain their interest through modding, knowing that their precious creation hopefully wont be buried in a sea of posts before seeing the light of day to the general community. Shermans and Burning Too easily.....
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Ryan Crierie's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I agree with Michael, Andreas. I reckon you should seriously consider changing your moniker to "Englishboy". Or as an alternative, in recognition of those "fine" stereotypical war comics, "Die Englander". Regards Jim R. [ October 09, 2002, 10:50 AM: Message edited by: Kanonier Reichmann ] -
What Should Be in the Patch?
Kanonier Reichmann replied to Commissar's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I'll throw my 2 cents worth in as well. The ability (as a number of others have mentioned) to toggle the scroll map function back to how it was with CMBO. I'm sorry, but I really do prefer the old method no matter how much I try and adjust to the new scroll system. Regards Jim R. -
