  1. If you hammer a KV I with loads of 37mm, 20mm, short 50mm and short 75mm guns (of which none can penetrate its armor) the crew will abandon the tank. If you score about each two seconds a hit on the KV, then after about 10 hits (about 20 seconds)the crew will abandon their tank. It seems they feel not very comfortable in there with all those hits... Marcus ****
  2. I think you are the unluckiest SOB alive Just ran a test with 10 woodden MG bunkers being shot at by 150mm Brumbärs. Each pair seperated by rows of trees, distance 330 meters. Run the test 3 time meaning 30 shootouts. Result: 30 dead MG bunkers with LESS than 30 hits. Usually all 10 bunkers were destroyed within max. of 70 seconds. Yes, kill probabilities given were "rare" and each hit on the bunker was a "hit, no serious damage", but each time the bunker was "knocked out" (not "abandoned") immediately. It even took less than 30 hits to destroy the 30 bunkers as there were about 4 near misses which still knocked out the bunkers. There was only one firing split penetration which knocked out the bunker as well. looks like you had a real bad day out there on the battlefield!
  3. I don't know where you get that 64mm penetration data from in CMBB. I checked and it is (patch1.02) 51mm at 0° at 100m for PAk 37mm L/45 and 53mm at 0° at 100m for Flak 37 for AP shot. One of the best guns (besides from 50mm Pak, Panzerjäger I and 88) on the German side is actually the 37mm L48 on the Pz38(t) with a penetration of 67mm at 0° at 100m and 54mm at 0° at 100m. This indicates that Pz38(t) can penetrate the rounded turret front armor of the T-34 out to 500m. In a test I runned I had 50 pairs of T-34 M41 and Pz38(t) going against each other frontally at 440m range. Result was 43 dead Pz38(t) and 7 T-34 lost... The rounded turret front deflected about 30% of all front turret hits, albeit this percentage could be rather inaccurate since I did only 50 test runs. Oh, and the the T-34's where hit 143 times (!!!) by the Pz 38(t) while the T-34's hit the Pz 38(t) only 66 times (faster ROF and more accurate gun on the Pz38 (t)). 143 hits to destroy 7 T-34's... Remember that the T-34 41 models get a 95% armor quality only. The 41 model with cast turret has a slightly thicker turret front armor than the other 41 model (52mm instead of 45mm). This might make the a difference especially for the 37mm Pak.
  4. I think it was somewhere mentioned (manual?) that in 1941 Russian AP ammo was of poor quality resulting in lower penetration figuers. If you check penetration data for the same gun in 1942 it goes up to not only 51mm at 0°, but 63mm at 0° at 100m.
  5. Pat, True about Tsingtao being a pretty good Chinese beer. Sadly a lot of other brands are real lousy and hardly deserve the name! San Mig still ranks among my favourites in Asia along with the Chang ("Elephant") here in Thailand. This Brew tastes real good and comes with a rather good punch at around 5,8% vol. alcohol and in handy 650ml "Gefechtshuelsen" I emptied once 42 of those in a 3-night stay at Ko Wai, a small island of the cost of Eastern Thailand. The Thai owner of the small resort hasn't forgotten me since then as he likes to gulp up a few bottles himself and my appearance on the beach will give him a good excuse for his wife...
  6. ...tomorrow I wil arrive in Manila and will have a few hotseat games there with one of my friends living there! Yuppididappididupp! Just had to let you know, I'm really looking forward to play this fantastic game again! Marcus (just another CM player) ****
  7. The "hide" order could have been one reason, but in the first case (1900m) the PzIII could well have been a misidentified PzIVG. This would explain the long range kill. In the second "hide" seems even more possible, as described the T-34 was knocked out with the first shot from the Panther and therefore not able to "unhide" and engage. In CMBO I always had the impression that non-moving tanks were kind of sitting ducks. It seemed to me that if they were sitting in ambush and a tank drove into their sights they often got their shot off - but only after the tank that drove in sight had opened fire (and those tanks were not "hiding"). I regularly used multiple short "hunt" and "reverse" orders to keep the tank moving "on the spot" since it seemed to me that I achieved better results this way, but I never really tested it. 8. Hhhmmm, how about a little test? Go to Finland or any other cold place where it snows this time of the year and look through a 200mm telephoto lens at night during heavy snowfall and tell me what you see. If you spot that vehicle at 58m it will be a obscured shadow with you guessing rather where it is and where it is pointing than knowing it. Most probably some snow will hit the front lens as well, making seeing anything more difficult. If you then look down the gun barrel, well, then look down a 2 meter long water pipe of roughly 75mm during that same winternight and tell you what you see in 58m distance. I guess not much. As it looked the other tank being at 48m range was hitting far better since it was not so close to the maximum spotting distance. Therefore avoid shooting at max LOS in such situations. Marcus **** PS: reminds me a bit about that situation of the German and American sniper in Saving Private Ryan. Quite heavy rain, dark and overcast, one guy sitting in the darkness of the room in the bell tower and not moving at all. I wonder how the other guy could see him with those conditions, especially thinking that he had to aim upwards which increases the chances that the frontlens of his scope gets wet. ****
  9. I think there is one pic of a Stug III with Ostketten in Panzer Colors...it's photographed from behind if I remember correct. But that still makes only 1 in thousands... Marcus ****
  10. laxx, I was sending you an e-mail to your ad in your profile.
  11. Dudes, That's a great AAR. Must be if I'm reading it at 22.00 in Bangkok! Keep it coming! Marcus ****
  12. For the Germans I do like the 20mm 250 HT. Dirt cheap and kills Greyhounds and US HT's really well. But if you meet a Stuart, well then it's better to have a Puma around since the 20mm is not good against the frontal aromr of the Stuart. On the Allied side I would go for the Stuart (in a game restricted to light aromr only) due to its better front aromr. Only 37mm AA gun or Puma can penetrate it.
  13. Great mod, doesn't matter if it's driving around in the east or west. One thing that I always thougt: I like the dirt on the windscreen, but just below the windscreen and on top of the engine is much less dust. Looks a little odd to me...maybe a bit mor dust there as well that the dust forms kind of a coat from the top of the engine cover up to the wiedshield? Marcus ****
  14. In a city fight I had once a regular Gebirgsjaeger squad with 46 kills 9US veteran rifle 44). The other two squads had 30 and 16 kills. However only 3 men of the squads with 46 kills suryiyed, all other including the HQ's were killed. The 3 guys being under command of a comapny HQ with good bonuses still were fighting against some more US inf at the end of the game...
  15. Girlie bars? Probably not often enough...but then there were quite a few beers the past few days, even for my standards... What's wrong with my fashion sense?...as a modder I only look at the possibilities... Good to see that there are quite a few Pinoys or RP related CM players out there. Maybe we should start our own "Green Mango" campaign. With bagoong of course... Cheers Marcus ****
  16. Kump, Thanks for the tip, I hadn't thought about the effects of commad delays. I just made sure that they were all about equidistant from the ridge before the start. I suppose differing comand delays along with the ridge being uneven could have accounted for their ragged engagement. As I said I will have to try harder. Mind you I am still surprised at the bloody Tiger getting off three aimed shots in one turn, albeit that my tanks were close together so he didn't have much traversing to do. Thanks again for the advice.</font>
  17. Why not? A little beauty pageant with the ladies in Panther or Tiger dresses, some ice cold San Migs and CMBB hotseat games...sounds good to me!
  18. Labrador, he is that Lucero. We have been friends for over 10 years and I will be back in Manila in February. looking forward to meet with you fellows for a couple of beers and some hotseat games! Regards Marcus ****
  19. Patrick, go practicing that you can put up a good fight in a hot seat game once I reach Manila! Not only another CM player in Manila now but another photographer as well!!! Maybe we coyld have a CM meeting at the club in February! Marcus ****
  20. Green Mango or ripe Mango? Salt or Bagoong added? I hope BFC will consider these details since it changes the speed considerably.
  21. As for the mortars: You have to unhide the HQ's to be able to spot for the mortars and the mortars have to be within command range of the HQ. Giving a very short cover arc command will prevent the HQ shooting at some infantry far away and therefore giving away their position. But do not expect that the mortars take out the T-34's; best they can do is to force the tank to button up as with the MG's. If the have smoke you could try to put up a smoke screen that your tank hunters can get close enough. As for the infantry to draw fire and not being able to get close enough to the tanks: Try to seperate enemy infantry by oinning them down with the HMG's. Tanks should be forced to button up same time. If the tanks then continue to advance on their own and get close enough your tank hunter teams or infantry with AT weapons have a chance to take out some tanks. But 5 T-34's? Not looking good...
  22. There is never a kill info displayed fro MG's shooting at vehicles. The only vehicles HMG's are able to take out are vehicles with paper thin armor and at relatively close range. T-34 doesn't belong into this category. Not looking good... You can shoot at them with the HMG to force them to button up and then use a close assault with infantry which has AT capabilities - from the side or even better from the rear. But remember that they should be very close to the infantry and nothing else is shooting at your infantry. Good luck.
  23. It's indeed sad that no changes to the setup zones can be made and the file cannot be opened in the editor. The problem goes a bit further than that; if you could open the file in the editor you would get all information about your opponents force as well including minefields etc. That wouldn't be great either. The whole thing should start already with different approach during the AAR. Before you get to see the AAR you would have to decide if you want to use the troops again; if yes, you should get an AAR with FOW. Then the AI should somehow rearrange the setup zones depending on the positions of the units of both sides. Then the second game starts begins. Guess things like that are not possible until the great game engine rewrite and we will have to wait for a while. As for the units being padlocked i think you can only leave them where they are or move them back into the setup zone. As for the vehicles disappearing: During the first action phase the destroyed vehicles will appear again provided you have units within LOS.
  24. "Modsluts: Where do you go for a good time?" For a good time I go to where I am right now...Bangkok
  25. It could be that how many shots are gotten off may depend on several variables including ROF of main gun, crew experience, etc. I am speculating here as I don't have anything like enough experience to say more at this time. I did notice that one of my Hornets got off two shots in my last game, which surprised me. Michael</font>
