  1. @the PiggDogg ----------------------------- My KT recon units, scout for my Big-Bertha-near-nuclear-artillery-jagdpanzer-300 mm-armored-killer-super-jadg-triple-flying-tigers. ------------------------------ I hope that cutie comes with a tripod as well... Regards Marcus *****
  2. I we have King Tigers and Churchills for recon, I wonder what will be in the battle groups they do the recon mission for
  3. I plyed once a meeting engagement (PBEM) with computer picked forces (combined arms). I had no AA defense and the computer gave my opponent a fighter/bomber. It knocked out one of my two Hetzers and ALL of my halftracks (about 7 or 8) I had a very hard time to get this game to a draw afterwards...
  4. Forget to add: Halfsquads are great for recon, I completly agree, but the initial question was about using vehicles for recon. Using snipers for recon can upset certain players. They consider it gamey due to the good stealth of snipers.
  5. The Puma sure is a good vehicle. It's 50mm gun can even take on a lot of allied tanks from the side. The 20mm variant has better armor and even more important a bigger ammo load than the 250 HT, but then again those two vehicles cost a lot of points compared to the 250 HT and that's why I do prefer the cheaper HT for recon.
  6. I prefer the 250 Halftrack with the 20mm gun. It can take on most light allied vehicles and the gun is not bad in killing AT guns either. Cheap as well. Disadvantage is the small ammo load, but they don't live long doing forward recce usually anyway.
  7. I did once a test with ten Nashorns (veteran) lined up against ten unarmed Shermans ( locked up in "rough" and showing their back to the Nashorns to avoid throwing smoke). Each pair seperated by a line of tall pines and in a perfectly flat and open ground at a range of around 1900 meters. All of the Shermans were usually hit (not necessarily knocked out) by the end of the first turn (or to say 5-6 shots). One or (seldom) two sometimes were still a live and needed more shots (up to 18). I found the accuracy of those guns not bad at all, but then this was on a stationary target. I had no time yet to run the same test aginst a moving target or let the Shermans shoot at the Nashorns. This would actually be interesting to give a comparison in accuracy between the regular 75 and the long 88. What was odd is that I tried the test first at a range of 2500 meters - and the vehicles did NOT spot each other!!!
  8. "Or maybe it was just a Jumbo fighting a Panther in the streets of Berlin." ??????????? Were there any Pershings or Jumbos delivered to the Russians? I thought the Russians took Berlin? Or am I missing something here?????
  9. @ Patrick "PS. In Manila there aren't any CM player's either until Marcus comes over to double the population." Heaven help! There are something over 14 million of people living in Manila!!!! Will have to do a lot of you know what to double the whole population Guess I have to extend my trip a bit
  10. Sounds fine with me... Bars and Pubs in Manila along with a little CM game and why not a little side tri to Shanghai. As I said I never visited this particular city in Asia, but then again why not - and I would have enough time (and money) to waste for this little trip...specially since there is FREE beer! And Mr.CDIC as appetizer if possible I would like some Kinilaw ng Taniguie (check with your wife for (mis-) spelling). That's one of my favourites, sour and spicy, and makes your sprite solders going fanatic as well... 21 hrs and 32 minutes until this damn plane leaves Hanggang sa muli Marcus ****
  11. Edge hugging? Treeburst155 got an idea how to get rid off it albeit a time consuming one. How about a few At mines and AP mines placed out there at the edges? Could spoil edge huggers day... On the other hand the edge is part of the battlefield as well and flanking is a very important tactic especially if you have to go up against German tanks with heavy frontal armor. Now if this German heavy comes down the flank...uuuupps, that's gamey, that flank supposedly belongs to the allied tanks that they can get flank shots at the German heavies !!!! Seriously, I see nothing wrong using the map close to the edges. A PBEM opponent used fast flanking tactis sometimes real close to the map edges. He was very sucessful first time but in later battles a Stug or even lone Panzerschreck teams brought those daring flanking manouvers to a sizzling halt. In an other battle I once deployed a 75mm pillbox to cover a far off flank at the map edge. There was nothing happening there, the gun never fired a shot and my opponent never saw the pillbox - the gamey bastard simlpy never attacked there. Wasted points? No way, the pillbox had to guard that flank and it "did its job". Nothing passed there. And the guys in the pillbox had a break for once and could gulp down a few beers instead of getting killed or wounded in action. Agreeing on rules on equippement seems to be standard, so then agree on how to use the map as well. Regards Marcus ****
  12. FREE BEER?!??! Monday I will be in Bangkok and when I continue later to the Philippines to visit a good friend of mine I might do a little detour with a stop in Shanghai...first I haven't been there yet and second I would travel hundereds of miles for FREE BEER!!! And maybe I can convince the guy from Manila to come over too since he's a CM player as well (currently kicking my butt in a large bocage battle ). And I always travel with my CM CD and my mod CD!!! Cheers! Marcus ****
  13. I thought once gun hits or weak point penetrations do happen to often and made a little test: 10 Shermans shooting at 10 unarmed Tigers at 100m, no Tungsten, all pairs seperated. I just counted the hits. Out of 412 hits there were 2 weak point penetrations and 8 gun hits plus 22 track hits. 4 Tigewrs were KOed - two becazuse of the penetrations and two received gun hits plus track hits, the crew terefore abandoning their vehicle. I do not think anymore that gun hits or track hit happen too often, but on the other hand if you line up 10 20mm guns and let then open up, the question is how many shots they get out in a minute. Each burst of a 20mm Flak in CM represents how many bullets? I think if you add up the total numbers of shells shot per minute by 10 20mm Flak it will be a hell of a lot of ammo - with gun hits and track hits resulting. I don't think the unit is real gamey - but it is the same as with the Pueppchen: there were not in every battle 5 or 6 of them... In a QB I played I had -just- one of those little 20mm Flaks - and it got knocked out by a 75mm Howitzer vehicle without firing even one shot! [ 10-04-2001: Message edited by: tools4fools ]

  15. @ Shadow 1st Hussars sending you the map anyway; maybe the fire will start burning again and you do a little operation for all of us ... @ lucero1148 leaving good ol' Switzerland in two weeks. It's about time, damn cold, dark and wet here. Very busy and very drunk most of the time...
  16. I thought once that those "weak spot penetrations" happen too often and that some German heavies were underrated. Did a little test on the Tiger I which proofed the opposite I guess: On my CM shooting range I had regular Shermans (75mm, no tungsten) lined up versus unarmed Tiger I's at 100m range. Out of 412 hits (not shots! I only counted the hits - and yes, there were misses even at this distance ) there were: - TWO penetrations resulting in KO's (less than 1%) - 22 track hits (around 5%) - 8 gun hits (around 2%) All the other 380 hits had no effect on the Tiger I at this range!!!!! Tell you it was a funny test seeing all those shells bouncing off or breaking up - but next time I might give the Tigers some ammo for selfe defense purposes...
  17. Shadow 1st Hussars ----------------------------------- I need some new mods and some new scenarios or I'm going to die. ---------------------------------- If you are that bored, how about if you create a mod or a scenario. Got a huge and interesting map for an operation to let if you want to have it... Regards

I tested this in a race with an M18, an M20, and an Assault Boat all on paved roads. The M18 took an initial lead but then the space between it and the M20 became constant. The Assault Boat, otoh, performed miserably. It wouldn't move at all until I put an HQ in it and then it still moved like a snail! ------------- I did the same test and all of them didn't move very fast. There was a 88 on the other edge of the map BTW
  19. Most posts after the release of CMBB will be about CMBB of course. The forum will be full. But then that's what the forum is there for. No need for a seperate forum for CMBB. But maybe CMBO needs a seperate forum then...
  20. Thanks as well, Juju. This was one of the very few bmps which were not yet modded on my CM - because I didn't know which file it was. Now it's looks as it should!
  21. From 1939 to 1945 in the war my grandfather mentioned airplanes twice; once divebombers crushing a Russian counterattack and once a Russian night attack plane (they called those planes "fliegende Nähmaschine" - flying sewing machine - because of the sound of the small engine; I think this was a bi-plane and only used during the earlier stage of the war on the eastern front. It was used only nighttime because it was no match for modern planes) dropping a bomb after he shot at it with a MG. The bomb hit a forward guard position, but luckily the two guys who were on duty were not there. Their officer scolded the two guys for not being on duty - and forbade my grandfather shooting at the plane... One reason why he saw very seldom airplanes (and tanks as well) might be because he was in Finnland during the late part of the war. I think ground attack planes were rare in CM scale; they attacked more before or between battles, seldom when infantry was already fighting each other. The Ju 88, a medium bomber, was used as ground attack plane on the eastern front as well along with Ju 87 and FW 190, which are probably the most common.
  22. Isn't that guy on pic 1 smoking a joint? And on the second pic, is the other one not picking mushrooms? You click on the unit annd you see what they see... Great mod, can I have it too?
  23. @ boy_Recon A "Hetzer" is someone who hunts down its prey. Like British fox hunting with horses and dogs. Chase until the victim can't run anymore; then kill. The "Hetzer" worked for me in the last turn on an PBEM. Another dead Sherman II...
  24. @ StellarRat *My mother was in Germany in WW II and she uses "Flieger", so I'm assuming that's correct.* As was the whole load of my parents and grandparents, but where they come from (Southern part)an airplane always is a "Flieger" because of their local slang and therefore even if "Flugabwehrgeschütz" would be the official term they still would say "Fliegerabwehrgeschütz".
  25. @ Berli, another question: "PzKw" is the "PanzerKampfwagen" (tank). Could it be then that the "KwK" (tank gun) is a "Kampfwagen Kanone" instead of a "Kraftwagen Kanone"? "Fallschirmjäger" would rather be "Parachute Hunters", but I agree, "Hunters from the sky" sound better
