  1. During the assault on St. Malo the troops of the US 83rd Infantry div came under fire from the bigs guns stationed on Cezembre, an island of solid rock located about 3 miles off the coast. The guns were old French RR pieces set in concrete with full 360 degree traverse. There were 6 total, plus a lone German 150mm. Was this fire observed and corrected by spotters on the mainland, or was it merely harrasment? Shhh...I think I hear Dandelion coming BTW, here are some nice pics of the island as it stands today. Scroll down to the bottom and click on 'East' to begin the tour.
  2. These two site may help: HJ OOB and 12th SS PZ The second link is from a miniatures wargame site, so the OOB is not very detailed.
  3. My goof For some reason the upload screen defaulted to the CMBO scenario folder, and all I saw in tunnel vision mode was 'All or Nothing', never bothering to check if I was in the right folder. Oh well, I'll try to get it straighten out. In the meantime anyone who wants to play it can e-mail me directly. I promise to send them the correct version
  4. ...or Nothing at all? Well, that is exactly what you get...All or Nothing. The CMAK conversion to the very popular CMBO scenario by Dan "Kwazydog" Olding is now available at the depot. Thanks to Dan for giving me the OK to convert it, and for junk2drive for help with the map. Head on over, pick it up, and go play in the rain. [ May 08, 2005, 06:28 AM: Message edited by: Kingfish ]
  5. Good to see the usual suspects are here and hard at it. All that is needed to complete this picture is for Dorosh to pop in with the names of each tank crewman, John Salt with info on how long it took to deploy the CW 3" mortar, and Rexford on the pen factor of each 88 at any given range, angle of impact and time of day. Thank you so much for the very detailed and interesting info. Another piece of the puzzle is now placed. Jon, With regards to the locations of Camilly, look here. Just follow the NW road from Buron to the first crossroad. And for Les Mesnil, look here. Center of the map and just west of Norrey. Here is another map showing Le Mesnil.
  6. Kwazydog just gave me the OK to convert "All or Nothing" to CMAK, but unfortunately Pyewacket's map conversion program does not work on my PC. Can someone please convert the map and sent to me (address in profile)? I'll take care of all the other details. BTW, I am patched up with the latest for both games, and have the North American version. Thanks
  7. It's not like you guys have more important things to do... Anyway, take a look here, and scroll down to where it describes the battle of Fontaine-Henry. There you see it mention a German 88 taking out 6 tanks from 'B' Sqd, 1st Hussars. This is also recounted here. My question is what unit did that 88 belong to? 716th infantry or 21st Panzer? Or an independent unit? Was it a Flak or Pak 88? Zetterling's Normandy webpage lists the 716th ID as having only 2 Pak 43/41, and no Flak 88s. The 21st Pz is better equipped, with a total of 12 Pak 88s and 8 Flak 88s. I don't see any reference to indepedent units being deployed in the area during that time. I did find this map, which shows elements of both divisions deployed in the area on D-day. Another great map, and one that would probably answer my question, is found here, but I lose clarity when I scale it up to read.
  8. You can also double-click on the HQ, and every unit under its command will also be selected. Now type 'P' to place in new location. This works best when you have several platoons all bunched up (like how reinforcements arrive in Ops) and want to quickly organize them.
  9. Here is an interesting pic of a training exercise by troops of the Regina rifles: According to the caption, the troops in the foreground are 2" mortar crews, which just layed the screen for the infantry deployed on the slope. That appears to be an effective screen. Far better than anything I could have created in CM.
  10. Keep in mind that in a QB you are limited to the number of points you can spend on each category. This is so each side gets a fair chance at winning the scenario, as well as to enjoy the game. In real life the Russian commander wasn't limited by any articial point system, and went out of his way to make sure his opponent didn't have a chance in hell of winning. In your QB you fielded 3x T34/85s + 2x IS-2s. In real life that same battle may have seen 12-15 T34/85s + 6-8 IS-2s.

Click on region, then click on dots to see a series of modern day photos of French coastline. Assorted maps. Most are of Russia, but there are a few good ones of Greece as well.

As you can see from the percentages we are doing really good with the first 3 scenario, but not so with the last 2. Hopefully those remaining games are well underway and will finish on time. BTW, congrats to Group 2 for finishing all their games before the deadline. [ April 30, 2005, 07:00 AM: Message edited by: Kingfish ]
  14. E-mail me the scores, and make sure to CC your opponent as well
  15. [shameless plug] Try "Raff to the rescue" from the CD[/shameless plug]
  16. If you get Kwazydog's permission I will convert it.
  17. I just wanted to see if you guys were paying attention
  18. DOH! I must confess, I have slacked off big time with this scenario. Time to get my butkus in gearkus. E-mail sent.

  21. Yeah, well, mine happened without the computer even being turned on. In fact, before I even got the game. Before BFC even produced the game.
  22. I just had a green 6 pdr take out a platoon of crack Panthers from 3460 meters away, all with one shot. You guys must suck, or something.
  23. Some examples of bocage country in Normandy Marigy, SW of St. Lo Deadman's corner, between St. Mere Eglise and Carentan Vierville road, one of the exits from Utah Beach Utah beach on D-day - note the extensive bocage just inland Maupertus airfield, just east of Cherbourg Hedgerows from a grunt's POV.
  24. Perhaps, but only if the sharpshooter is soley responsible for the crew bailing out, and that is a difficult incident to recreate. Just ran another couple of tests to see if I could get a vehicle crew to bail after losing a crewman to a SS. One Elite British SS vs 4 conscript Italian tankettes (2 man crew). All 4 tankette TCs were hit, but the driver stayed inside the vehicles, so that test was a bust. Again, no credits to the SS for any kills. I then tried 4 Brit uni carriers (1 man crew) vs an Italian SS. All 4 were taken out, and the SS was credited with 4 vehicles (no infantry). Finally, I repeated the second test, but with 4 bren carriers (2 man crew) and added an Italian 75mm AA gun. The gun was set to hide, and the SS proceeded to pick off the gunner of each Bren (even though the graphic showed the driver being taken out). I then unhid the gun, and he took out all 4 vehicles. 2 of those vehicles were brewups, with no crew bailing out, while the other 2 kills produced a crew. The SS credit - 0. The guns - 4 vehicles + 2 infantry casualties.
  25. Correct, the crews only count if they actually show up on the map. Assume a Pak40 shooting at a Sherman (5 man crew). The tank gets KO'd, and 3 guys manage to bail out. The Pak40 would get credit for one tank and 2 infantry casualties. But, if the tank was to explode and everyone on board dies, then the Pak40 only gets credit for the tank. This is because the crew graphic never showed up on the map.
