  1. As I understand it, each AFV has two points in it's 3-D model, one for the hull and the other for the gun. In a turreted tank these points are stacked one atop the other, while an assault gun like a StuG III has them more or less in the same location. Thus, when you give an AFV a "seek hull down" command it will do so from the POV of the top point (gun). It is like giving the TC a move to contact order, but instead of having an enemy unit trigger when the vehicle stops it instead is looking for a designated spot on the map. So, to answer your question, the degree of which a unit is hull down is determined by the actual profile of the vehicle. If you had a Panther and M3 Grant side by side, and ordered them to seek hull down on the same spot, the Panther would have more of its hull down. The M3 grant considers its hull mounted 75mm its primary weapon, so it would reveal all of its superstructure before it achieved hull down.

  3. When using shoot and scoot it is assumed that you already have a target located, and you want to pop a shot off and get back to cover, hence the "fast forward-shoot-reverse back" sequence. If you are using hunt then you don't have a target, but are looking for one. You may want to try move to contact and reverse.

  5. Good pick as well, although I've noticed that Crusaders in CMAK are rather 'skittish', and would back away from a threat even if they had numbers on their side. I'm not sure how they would act against a gun-armed PB.
  6. My pick would be the Sherman IB. The Churchills are either too slow or too heavily armored, and there are no 95mm equipped Valentines. The Bishop is also too slow, and that honking big turret is paper thin.
  7. Good Lord, Man, where do you find this stuff?!?
  8. Which is not the same as discovering the "little man in the boat", which would make anyone's day.
  9. Guys, I just sent out a bulk e-mail to everyone in the tournament, and have gotten a few bounced back, so I am posting the same message here: This e-mail is intended for those who still have games in progress. If you have finished all your games please disregard. Those who have games in progress please e-mail asap with your status (where you are turn wise) and on whether or not you think you can finish by the deadline (June 7th). I need to know this information *now*, as this may be the last time I can get a replacement player in. Ideally I would like for you all to finish your games, so please...I repeat ***please***...find a way to get it done. It would make our jobs so much easier. Even if you cannot get it completed simply getting all but the last few turns helps me out a great deal. Don't let the game just hang with 10+ turns to go. According to my latest spreadsheet there are 3 games left to finish for Wet Triangle, 7 for Push, 5 for Highlanders, and a whopping 14 each for St.Ed's and Moltke. Not good. So, please e-mail me asap. Thank you, Sergio

  11. Looking for unit info on the Centaur tanks used on Juno and the advance inland. So far I have found out that the 5th independent Marine armored support battery landed on Sword Beach, and the 1st Marine armored support regiment landed on Gold Beach, but haven't found any specific info on those that landed on Juno.
  12. IMO, it is not worth the points spent on them. Expensive, unreliable, and sometime more of a danger to your own troops. For the price of one FB you can buy several vanilla tanks or even more AT guns and get a lot more out of those.
  13. Why welcome some guy who takes on the persona of someone responsible for the multiple murders of Allied prisoners of war? Wünsche was in the 12th SS in Normandy. Pretty pretentious to list the Oakleaves to the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in your sig, too, as if you had earned them yourself or something. Sean I can understand your identification with the lunatic fringe, but I thought even you had standards. </font>

At this late stage we all should be very close to the end of our games, as in the last 10 turns. If this is not the case, then please let me know now, before it gets past the point where even getting a replacement player won't do any good. One way or another I will finish this tournament, even if it means me cycling thru the final turns in hotseat mode just to get a score. However, if I am forced to do more than 10 games... I will be one pissed Mofo
  17. Any chance your university library has a map of the area around Fontaine-Henry?
  18. Thanks, that helped a lot. I will include a spotter to represent these guns, but will most likely have to fiddle with the editor to get the right effect. Probably will be a 210mm to simulate the old French 194mm, and reduced ammo load. BTW, I've read accounts that say Cezembre was the most heavily bombarded place in WW2. Is this true?
  19. Correct. From the HJ OOB website I linked: "Despite the moniker "Panzer-Grenadier", only one bataillon was truly gepanzert (armoured): III./SS-Panzergrenadierregiment 26, equipped with SPW's."
  20. But that tactic cuts both ways. He may guess correctly, and blow away a portion of your force, or he may not. Either way he has locked in one of his most important assets, with no hope of ever using it again. IMO, a prep barrage by the defender gives the attacker more of an advantage.
  21. It IS gamey to prep bombard the attacker's setup zone in my book even on large maps. Especially once you learn how to measure the setup zones in QBs, so you literally know exactly how far forward the attacker's setup zone is. </font>
  22. Try this site, which is the home page for the first site I posted. As you can see it was heavily fortified against both land and sea invasion. The German land forces HQ of the Western Front estimated that the St. Malo fotifications were the most advanced of any fortress in the west. Edit: here is another good site Here is another [ May 10, 2005, 04:20 AM: Message edited by: Kingfish ]
  23. That is one nice looking website you got there. Good job.
