  1. What was the OOB for this formation circa Op Spring? According to several sources, the 18th Battery contributed to the successful attack on Verrieres (the village, not the ridge). Both Reynolds and Jarymowycz mention 17pdrs, but were they towed or SPAT? If the latter, Achilles or Archers?
  2. Actually, it was an M10, at least according to After the battle mag. I'm sure your answer is also correct.
  3. The single hand grenade you see being thrown is actually several hand grenades, just like a single ammo point being fired is really several weapons doing the firing.
  4. ...and he hits it out of the park... For an additional 10 points can you name the other unit that was with gun M2 during this engagement?
  5. 10 points each if you can name where, when, what tank type it killed, and what AT gun (Towed or SPAT) did the killing. C'mon, Jon, I'm pitching you a softball here.
  6. Because Richie is the designer for Methode, thus his curiosity
  7. Or an internal explosion from ammo cooking off.
  8. South of Vevi and Methode Champenois are at the SDII. I have all the others except 'Wolf in Sheep's clothing'. That one is unfortunately lost forever I'll gladly e-mail them to whomever wants them, but bear in mind that apart from the ones at the SDII all the others are the same version as what was used in the tourney. IOW, they weren't revised based on player feedback.
  9. May I recommend... To the last man. Before I converted this scenario to CMAK I played this vs John Kettler in a pbem. To this day I still rate it as one of my top five pbem games.
  10. I'm not certain, but 42 sounds about right. Now that you have the game you of course have access to all the second-party scenario, of which there are probably a thousand or more.
  11. Try using the 'advance' or 'assault' command, only instead of going forward you plot your unit towards the rear. You get the benefit of unit cohesion + morale boost and cover fire.
  12. Makes sense given the limited role this vehicle was designed for. If you think about it, apart from helping breach the Atlantic wall defenses there really wasn't that many instances where the AVRE was used. Le Havre perhaps, but I can't think of anywhere else.
  13. What range is the target? The AVRE's main gun is a 290mm Petard Mortar, which has a range of 250 meters. However, if LOS conditions allow, you can easily target something as far as 4km away and the target line will stick. The AVRE will go through the motions of traversing the turret and raising the gun in anticipation of firing, but nothing else will happen. BTW, one of the reasons you may be experiencing frustration with the AVRE may be due to the mission you are calling it to perform. Historically, the AVRE was designed to crack open fixed fortifications such as pillboxes, and not to go H2H with StuGs and the like. The ROF (as you will find out) is excruciatingly slow, and once it does fire its accuracy is nothing to write home about. Against an armored opponent with a decent gun it is meat on the table.
  14. Returning to an earlier period of the battle, at 9 a.m. Lieutenant Kelly's mortar sections in position near 12 Platoon were called upon for a defensive shoot. As the area was already under enemy shellfire, Kelly decided to fire a mortar from one of the carriers so as to afford some protection for the gun crew. Three groups of ten rounds rapid were fired thus when enemy mortar shells began to fall round the carrier, and before long the crew was driven to take shelter in a barn nearby. The carrier was hit and caught fire. Corporal Jones7 made a brave attempt to drive it away, but the heat was too intense. Next, the hayloft of the barn was set alight, and our tanks in rear began to fire on it, imagining for some reason that it was held by the enemy. When the walls began to fall in Kelly withdrew his men and equipment to the house occupied by 12 Platoon. Nevertheless, the remaining mortar was not allowed to be silenced and an ingenious method for keeping it in action was soon devised. ‘The enemy shooting, which was very accurate’, writes Kelly, ‘made it impossible to mount and fire the mortar on the ground as its crew would have been exposed to shell fire. The carrier was therefore driven under the lee of 12 Platoon's house and the mortar mounted upon it. When a request – 275 – for a shoot was received an NCO, driver, and one man would take the carrier into the courtyard of the house, line the mortar up, fire the required number of rounds, and then pull back to the house.’ By nightfall only ten rounds were unspent, and these were kept in reserve against some possible emergency. 24 Battalion
  15. John, The Bishop in CM functions the same way as all other SPA. To fire on targets outside of the limited gun arc the entire vehicle needed to be turned. With regards to the UC / 3" mortar combo, you can't fire the mortar from the vehicle. Chalk it up to limitations in the game engine. You also can't unload vehicle mounted MGs, although that was a faily common practice.
  16. Scott Boston designed a very challenging and fun operation, not too big nor too lengthy, called "Knights in plywood". I highly recommend it if you can find it.
  17. GAJ, I can't access the BOB board. Please let him know our thoughts are with him and his family, and that I have no doubt Linda will recover fully and be home soon.
  18. I think you are confusing Jagdpanthers with Jagdpanzers. With regards to the former, only one independent battalion was sent to Normandy, the 654th schwere Panzerjager Abteilung. The 12th SS arrived in Normandy on June 7th, but didn't receive their first Jagdpanzers until a month and a half later, so their time in Belgium didn't give them any advantages.

  20. I'm hoping someone could shed some light on the reasons for the lack of a standard organization for these formations. For instance, why was 12th SS Pz equipped with Jagdpanzers in its Panzerjager abtielung when all the others had StuGs? On the Zetterling website the two PzGr regiments of 2nd SS Pz are equipped with a 15th Kompanie, which are labeled "KrSch". What formation is this? Likewise, 10th SS Pz's 15th Kompanie is recon, while in 1st SS Pz it is a Pioneer. 9th SS Pz skips over the 15th Kompanie and goes straight to 16th. Why? All the SS formations, including 17th SS PzGr, have a battery of 37mm Flak guns (in addition to 3 88mm batteries) in its Flak battalion, except 1st SS Pz which was an additional battery of 37mm. Again, why?

  22. When Rune first submitted his scenario to the beta test team it included a squadron of Bolivian destroyers, two Roman legions, A dozen Sioux on the warpath, a mutant strain of flesh eating bacteria and Satan. Luckily, we managed to convince him to scale it down a bit.
  23. Here's a thought... Don't respond. Wouldn't want anyone to think you're an asshole, now would we?
