I have a question...
Kingfish replied to Major Concussion's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
<blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by Major Concussion: I am trying to make a scenario where the allies can use airplane artillery spotters (you know what I am talking about, not the fighter-bomber). but I can not find anything of the like in the Units menu- only for axis.<hr></blockquote> You're not going to find any because there aren't any availible, either for the allies or axis. -
Infantry fighting in or behind bocage

Did this THING ever existed? (see picture)
Kingfish replied to killmore's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Imagine being the lone panzershreck that takes that thing out, only to watch a dozen hatches open up and 50 pistol weilding fanatics climb out and charge the patch of woods you're hiding in. -

Wild Bill's Rumblings Of War (con't.)
Kingfish replied to Treeburst155's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
For pete's sake, just send me the wine and be done with it! -
240mm is not a rocket, but very heavy artillery. The blast factor is something like 600+. Heibis, Did you target a house or building? If the structure is destroyed during the barrage the A.I. will consider it mission accomplished, therby cancelling the strike. Also, the 240mm (as does all big arty) has a very slow reload.

I've seen it before, and I think I know why. Notice that it only happens to the flak 88. What makes this weapon different from other guns? The 'no embark during battle' code. During the next battles setup phase it shows up with a green base, visible for all to see. I've seen the same bug with enemy minefields. Juju, is there anyway you can embark the gun for the next battle? It might erase the 'tag' (for lack of a better word). See what happens then.

Wild Bill's Rumblings Of War (con't.)

<blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by Holien: Maybe some more turns today as I try and write my Christmas cards. H<hr></blockquote> Holien, I suggest you write those X-mas cards before you view the movie I just sent you. You're not going to be in a festive holiday mood afterwards. -
Scenario suggestion for "Armor Heavy" PBEM?
Kingfish replied to pilgrim's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Another to consider is 'Taurus over the Odon' by Franko. Haven't played it thru, so if anyone is interested... Edit: one more came to mind, and I highly recommend it: Wild Bill's 'Death of the Titans'. [ 12-02-2001: Message edited by: Kingfish ]</p> -

Kingfish replied to Kingfish's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
*AGP card *Astoria mobo(thats all I know) *Don't know what version of DirectX. Where can I find out? *same as #3 *yes, and have gone as far as deleted and reinstalled the game. The resolution as far as I know is still the same as before (800 x 600) *Previous card was a Voodoo 2. I only installed the new driver. I did not remove the old drivers. Thanks for your help -
Help! I've just installed a Nvidia TNT2 card, and now CM doesn't boot up. Worse, it locks up my computer. I click on the CM icon, the CD starts up, and then nothing. No keyboard, mouse functions. Clt-Alt-Delete kicks me out entirely, and starts the reboot sequence. My system specs are: P2-233, 160 megs Ram, Win 95, Nvidia TNT2 Thank you for your help

Scenario Reviews on the Depot

Allied use of Schutzenplatte?
Kingfish replied to Ogadai's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Shreck wire was very popular and in high demand during the last months of the war. In fact, one regiment sent to refit found that all the wire had already been used, leaving them nothing. Forced to improvise, they instead welded Bren tri-pods onto their tanks. Apparently there were thousands of these just laying around. -

Detecting AT mines with infantry?
Kingfish replied to Redwolf's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)

Squad dispersion along a frontline
Kingfish replied to Galatine's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
<blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by Galatine: Another way to put it: Given a defensive force is expected to resist enemy assault of superior (1.75 to 1) numbers on a fixed MLR, how dispersed could a squad/platoon be before it starts to lose cohesion and combat effectivenes?<hr></blockquote> That depends on many things. Here are a few to consider: 1) Experience level 2) State of morale (both unit and global) 3) In command / leader bonuses 4) terrain / weather 5) Effect of enemy fire (occasional harrasing small arms fire or 88mm DF) 6) Proximity of enemy units -
what's the biggest, longest scenario?
Kingfish replied to russellmz's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
South Hertogenbosch. It is an Op, but the entire map is visible from the start, making it more like a huge scenario. Map measures 4k x 2k. Force is 10,000+ Brits / 7,000+ Germans. 240 turns (12 battles @ 20 turns each). -
Keith, I suggest you try Wild Bill's 'To the last man' and Moon's 'Utrechtseweg', the first is a scenario, the other an Op. Let me know if you are looking for an opponent.

How can the panzerfausts etc ..miss ?
Kingfish replied to Andymann's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Actually, the PF rounds are hitting, but just passing thru without detonating. A little known fact, recently made availble to the pubic, was that 3/4 of the entire allied tank fleet was really just a wood and cloth mock-up built atop a bicycle. Some of these even had mannequins strapped on to complete the effect, and to fool Axis snipers (and sharpshooters). -

How can the panzerfausts etc ..miss ?
Kingfish replied to Andymann's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Lots of reasons for misses. Fatigue, fright, momentarily taking cover when trigger is pulled, smoke, noise, hangover, the sight of the guy next to you getting his head blown off, hunger, thirst, constipation, sudden relief of constipation, sickness, shoddy equipment, lack of training, worried about whether he turned the coffee pot off, etc... BTS takes all these things into calculations when the numbers are crunched. -
