Expect some scenarios to come out of this

Where did you buy it? Do you know if there is an equivalent in France to amazon.com? I live in Canada, but I would like to see what is being published in France. For that matter, is there a UK equivalent to amazon.com? TIA
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Imperator: Why do you assume the TC is still alive?

Yeah, maybe he sneaked out a while ago and his green crew didn't notice.
 3. Thanks MadDog0606, useful information. Never again. Grrr
 4. Any pointers on how to use infantry properly? Is is just a matter of ratio? I.e. 1:1 = slaughter on both sides, attack 3:1 or better (taking terrain into consideration) and you will do OK, better odds mean you will take few loses? I had a whole platoon of U.S. infantry get slaughtered in CE in the space of one turn. I think what happened is that Germand and U.S. troops just bumped into each other, and because the Germans had heavy SMG squads, they just mowed down my troops in the woods at close quarter. Any comments?
 5. Star Fleet Command, based on Star Fleet Battles. Star Fleet Armada.
 6. Thanks for replying, formerly Babra. Enjoy the game, I should get my copy sometime this coming week... sometime.
 7. Hill 621. Oh, sorry, wrong game. I haven't received CM in the mail yet.
 8. I would like to see it too, please. lori.pat@ns.sympatico.ca Thanks.
 9. Last night I did some research on Market Garden, and learned that some of the German units were a little peculiar. There were, for example, many German paratroop units in the area, but they did not have the usual weaponry. Another group was in fact a bunch of demoted Luftwaffe officers from Southern Italy. Yet another group was a rag-tag team of German paratroopers, but they didn't have many weapons so many of them used weapons kindly supplied by the R.A.F. before the airborne landings. When designing a scenario, is there any way of "tweaking" the squad definitions? (I don't have my copy of CM yet, I live in Canada you see... our Customs people don't know that the Free Trade agreement was supposed to bring down barriers to entry). I noticed there were a couple of companies equiped with captured French armour, Renaults in one case (6 tanks destroyed quickly by the Allies), in the other B1 Bis refitted with flamethrowers. That could have been fun, maybe when CM3 comes out we will be able to play this type of thing. I think I will replace the Renaults with PzKpfw IIIs, I don't know about the B1 Bis -- Hetzer Flamm? I would be curious to learn what is possible with the scenario design tools that come with CM. Also, this is probably a complaint, but there were A LOT MORE horses, buggies, and carts during WWII as computer games seem to consider, I for one think it's too bad they didn't account for this in the game. Are there bicycles and motorcycles in the game? Every major German unit had some, I think. I don't know what to do with HQ units, they had soup kitchens, etc. I think I will just leave those out altogether.
 10. Ich habe auch keine CM hier, im Canada.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Berlichtingen: I just finished converting an ASL scenario. It seemed to work out OK. I sent it to Rob/1.

Which scenario?
 12. I feel more like the Poles in their landing zone...
 13. Nothing in Halifax either. Tuesday maybe...

 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Little Black Devil: Anyhow, the German Army had a training detachment which (until recently) trained at Canadian Forces Base Shilo in Manitoba, Canada. They brought in their Leopard IIs and III's as well as Marders, M109s etc. etc.

A friend of mine said that at one point, there were more German tanks in Canada than Canadian tanks. Is that true?
 16. Thanks BTS for your friendly apology. I don't think any of us were angry at you for the delay, we are angry at our own government and its bureaucracy. Anyway, nothing today (Thursday) in Halifax, maybe tomorrow, I'm betting on Monday, hoping it will be here by Tuesday... sigh.
 17. I am mostly interested in historical scenarios, those would need some kind of third party evaluation to verify that they are realistic / accurate. Invented scenarios might be rated according to how often one side manages to win (i.e. balance), maybe some kind of rating based on players' scores... Also scenarios could be indexed according to the units involved, i.e. all tanks, tanks vs. mostly infantry, etc. and by nationalities involved.
 18. Wed June 28, nothing in Halifax so far. <sigh> I am starting to snap, I posted a couple of silly messages on the forum so far. Am downloading the new demo, maybe that will distract me. I also rented The Battle of the Bulge movie, maybe that will take my mind off CM. (Not!) Ironically what I want to do is model Arnhem, but since the demo doesn't let me do that I have to wait, and wait, and wait... Yesterday my wife got me to clean the aluminum siding on the front of my house, and to paint the porch. Today it was thirty degrees Celsius out here so I managed to talk her out of making me clean the back of the house, plus put a second coat on the porch, plus paint all the walltrim from my plastering last week. I think she knows the game is coming so she's putting everything my plate asap.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by iggi: This is a Canada post problem. They are slow.

This hasn't happened in a few years, but I remember one or two news items in the past fifteen years about someone in Canada receiving a letter that was actually mailed years before., e.g. receiving a letter that was mailed in the 1930s or something like that. We don't hear those stories as much now, so maybe Canada Post is just putting those old letters in the garbage now, maybe they cleaned up their offices and did forward all those "lost letters". I just hope my copy of CM isn't sitting on some shelf because Canada Customs or Canada Post didn't know what to do with the package... Otherwise my grandson might receive it. ("c-o-m-p-u-t-e-r"? "Dad, can you remember what those are, never heard of them. Are like those old things called telephones you used to use when you were young? Oh this was shipped in 2000, that must have been for grandad! What material is this box made out of? Never seen that before, it feels weird. It's not even duraplast.")
 20. Someone dropped it while crossing the no man's land. The USPS sent it to the Twilight Zone by mistake. You have a twin brother you don't know about who ordered at the same time as you, and BTS figured they had duplicate records so they sent only one copy to the other twin... ... I don't have mine either.
 21. I was surprised to read this statement, because in the CM forum ASL comes up time and time again. Also the time periods chosen for the different CM releases almost mirror those for ASL, i.e. Squad Leader, then Cross of Iron, then Crescendo of Doom for the earlier years... At least the first three seem to match. Only difference is that ASL attempted a Pacific module, while CM probably will not. I loved playing ASL, I must have spent hundreds of hours playing that game. For a while friends of mine and I would play blind, i.e. we had two copies of the maps and a referee would walk and forth between our setups to tell us what we could see, what we couldn't see... Very interesting. I think CM is as realistic as ASL, I don't know if we can ever know whether they truly are realistic, esp. when it comes to squads' performance -- in ASL I had a few problems with the concept of morale, in CM I don't know how the AI controls the squads but no matter what game you play rules and guidelines won't mirror what real people do on a battlefield, in my opinion. Statistically speaking it may seem correct or most likely that a squad would behave a certain way, I am not sure that human beings are always predictable. ASL tried to put this in by having beserk squads, it was fun but I don't know if that was realistic. I am just rambling I will stop now -- I don't have my copy of CM yet, I live in Canada you see we have a peculiar postal service up here...
 22. Good for you, Cpt. Now I suspect you won't have time to post on the forum anymore...
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Wako: Well, speaking for myself, I think the most overlooked tile is SAND. No way to have a good D-Day invasion without it. I sincerely hope we get sand in an upcoming patch. Sand might have very limited utility in CM2, but in CM1 it is a definate must.

And rocky / pebbled beaches. Beaches where your feet keep slipping and your boots keep sinking into these little rounded rocks about 1 inch to three inches in diameter. Two steps forward, one step back.
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by HabFan: I saw what looked like a parcel card in the mailbox today and I actually got butterflies in my stomach just like I was 7 years old at Christmas. It turned out to be some propaganda from the Canadian Alliance Party. Boy what a downer that was. :-( I might vote for Uncle Jean next time for that

Well, Tom Long has dual citizenship (Canadian and American), since he is a back room boy perhaps he can pull some strings to hurry your package along. Talk about a sellout -- Americans trying to take over by running for the leadership of our political parties. tsk tsk.
 25.
quote:
Originally posted by Toad: I don't think the delay is being caused by Canada Post. What we're experiencing is the delay of getting packages across the border.

Are you saying toad that USPS is as evil as Canada Post? Incredible. Naww, it can't be. Has anyone figured out yet why the Canada Post headquarters in Ottawa are BIGGER THAN OUR PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS?? There is definitely something wrong here. Maybe they need a lot of space to play the computer games they confiscate from our mail... Nothing yet in Halifax, maybe the USPS threw my package overboard in Boston as part of a re-enactment of the Boston Tea Party.
