1. A friend sent me the URL for battlefront.com, said it was the best game out there. He was right!
 2. Yesterday for fun I placed a Jagdtiger behind a stone wall, to make it hull down. Then when I looked at it from the side, it became patently obvious to me that if anything was going to score a hit on the Jagdtiger, odds are it would be on the superstructure. That tank has a high profile! The stone wall looked like a little pile of dirt in front of it, it barely reached the same level as the top of its tracks. But it's a bunker on tracks, so I don't mind if my opponent hits it. POUND AWAY STEFAN!!! I bet he used up his points on Hellcats, so I'll be like a giant stomping on scurrying little rats.
 3. Which newspaper was it from, I wonder? Not one of the Conrad Black papers, I hope. Canada built its own jetfighter if I remember correctly, but the US pressured the Canadian Government to quash it (The Avro Arrow). Most of the engineers who worked on it moved (were shipped?) to the United States. The U.S. does a lot of good, but so do other countries, let's not forget.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by patboivin: I liked Hill 621, if someone ever builds that scenario to CM I would like to have a go at it.

Here I am replying to myself! Of course Hill 621 used Russian armour, but maybe we can cook something similar with US or British troops, all running across the field...
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Col. Klotz: TI've had some pretty intense fighting especially on board 3. Col. Klotz

I liked Hill 621, if someone ever builds that scenario to CM I would like to have a go at it.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: I think those were CoolCJ's mods, but I might be mistaken.

CoolCJ hasn't posted anything for the production version of the game, maybe he's hard at work now.
 7. I heard the reverse too on CBC a while ago, some Canadians volunteered and were accepted by the Americans for either the Vietnam war or the Korean war.
 8. OK, I did a search against the forums, I am not insane ss_panzerleader on 01-23-2000 or 01-13-2000 posted a message with the word "church" in the subject line, that is the mod I was referring to. I don't know where I can get a copy of it now, though, when I click to see his info, his web site URL is blank.
 9. The light grey stone church, with the beautiful, colourful stained glass that was in the Riesberg demo scenario. Maybe I am going crazy, but I distinctly remember seeing the church that way. I must have downloaded a texture tweak somewhere and applied it. Riesberg is the demo scenario with the AT gun, and a sniper on the top floor of the building, right?
 10. Hi, Would anyone know how I can replace the church texture in the map editor with the church texture in the Riesberg scenario (after the mod was applied)? I want to simulate a cathedral/large church made out of stone. Thanks.
 11. I started modelling Arnhem last night, I find that the map editor doesn't let me cram enough buildings together. I also looked (in vain) for forks that are Y-shaped in the map editor, nothing. In the end I used the flat pavement instead. Also roads in Europe aren't all at a 90 or 45 degree angle, but hey. Buildings don't need flat ground to rest on, they can be built on slopes too, but the map editor doesn't permit that.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Mikester: I have a book at home that IIRC has pic's from the war of Arnhem during / after the battle. Send me an email at mikester@attglobal.net to remind me so I don't forget and I'll take a look at it when I get home tonight. Mikester out.

Mikester, I started modeling the map of Arnhem based on the actual Allied map they sell at the Oosterbreek Airborne Museum. Could you report back once you've checked your book? Thanks.
 13. Yippeee! CM arrived in Halifax. Shipped June 21st. Probably I should have ordered a year ago! Thanks BTS, now I am going to give this my all... until my wife pulls me back. I am so happy. (and probably silly too!) So all those people who wanted to play against me, send me an e-mail and we will set something up. You can even pick a scenario you have already played, I don't care if I win or lose at this point.
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Stefan: Although not a frequent talker - I do play my fair share of games - so if you need another tester Wild Bill, send some my way. I on the other hand, may be a bit slower in sending you some testers...

I think not! Stefan keeps bugging me about PBEM files, the most common e-mail I get from him is (capitalization is his): WHERE ARE MY FILES?? Sheesh. Wild Wild Bill, you can throw all you want at him, he spends his whole days on the computer. He is a good player too, we reached a stalemate in VoT and CE in the demo. He got his copy of the game today, so I guess I won't be getting MY PBEM files as often...
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Wild Bill Wilder: Were you able to take the bridge, Pathfinder? If you were, though not in print, you have achieved a great victory in opening the way for XXX Corps to get their butts hustling on up to Arnhem.

Hum. At least until tea time.
 16. Well, if logging onto the CM forum 7000 times makes you a loser then I must be a fool because it wouldn't bother me one bit. I played ASL for years, and CM is the best thing I've seen on a computer for the last ten years. One of my friends lives far away, and he used to play ASL with me, now we are playing CM PBEM, so CM helped bring us back together. After 7000 posts you must be an excellent player by now. And if you happen to pick up a bit of history while reading forum posts, no loss there either.
 17. Wednesday, nothing in Halifax yet. I'm starting to think they (USPS) shipped the whole lot to Pearson International Airport in Toronto, then Customs held on to them for days, then Canada Post had to sort them and send them to the (hum) regions. The silly part of it is I live in Nova Scotia, if it had been delivered by bicycle I would have it already.

 19. Half seriously, I prefer squads that don't get themselves killed. I don't have the game yet, but US Paratroopers in ASL had 7-4-7, relatively short range but definitely not bad, I don't know how that translates into CM. The SS in ASL had 6-5-8, i.e. slightly less firepower, slightly better range, definitely better morale. I wonder if this corresponds to the German Hvy MG squad that obliterated my US infantry platoon at close range in the woods in Close Encounter... Maybe it's more like the German "engineer" squads in ASL, I don't know. 6-2-8? (where's my copy of CM? Grrr.) The US paratroopers are great squads, I agree with you.
 20. I wholeheartedly agree with everything he says, except people shouldn't download the demo, they should buy the game right away before the second batch runs out.
 21. Oh, I forgot to add: And then the British decided to exterminate and deport the French colonists of Nouvelle-France to Louisiana, or ship them back to France. double
 22. Well, at least the Americans managed to decide what to do with their country. Here in Canada (and parts of what was to become the U.S.), the foppish French king just sold his colonies to the British to end a war with England, and French colonists had nothing to say in the matter.
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Stefan: Pat Your troops were noisy. I heard them coming in the previous turn and opted to set up an ambush and hit whatever would be coming. From my point of you, you simply walked into my kill zone one by one during the same 60 seconds. SMGs hurt bad within 40m especially if they get the first burst. That is a good trick though, if you see them coming and have no predetermined objective, try setting-up a welcoming committee to cover a suspected point of entry. With an HQ ubit, setting up ambush markers works really well. Afterwards, use creep with one unit always in the lead.

Gee thanks Stef. I see you finally bought a new modem, and you are now prowling on the forums...
