I mean, so I convert the SL scenario "The Tractor Works" into a CM:BB scenario --- wasn't the original scenario supposed to be based on actual events during the battle for Stalingrad? And in any case, it would not be identical to the original (two completely different mediums), so what's the prob?

I just think Hasbro is being an ass about the whole thing. Does that surprise anybody. At first Col. Klutz's ASL2CM site was praised by the SL/ASL makers, but then Hasblow took over and it all of a sudden became taboo. I guess they didn't want any confusion over their pitiful attempt at creating Soldiers at War 2 aka Squad Leader.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Morten: Along the same lines; I am using a DVD-case. Is there any front and back cover for that out there?

Simple answer: Nope. Complicated answer: Why would you use a DVD case for a Computer CD?
 3. The easiest way to totally mod your terrain is to get Magua's Normandy pack. It changes everything and looks very realistic.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by corn55: Ordered CM a few days ago. All I received was the automated message saying that the order has been received. I live in Ohio, and assumed it would be here by now.

OK, let me get this straight. You said you ordered it a few days ago which just happened to be Tuesday the 14th as Madmatt has already mentioned. Then today is the 16th. That's two days apart. Let me just tell you this. Even if BTS shipped your copy the second they recieved your on-line order, the U.S. Postal Service doesn't even work THAT fast. Even Amazon.com doesn't even work that fast. A typical on-line order takes anywhere from 3-5 days from even the time they ship the order. I mean that's standard. I take it you have never ordered anything on-line before? When I order something from Amazon.com, the shipment usually goes out the next or following day. Then going out by UPS usually, it takes at least 3 days. So all together it takes at least 5 days. So I'd suggest you just chill out. Bitching and complaining about your order not being there 2 days after you placed the order is not very bright. I used to work for a postal service and I know the route a "package" has to take to get to a private residence. First it gets shipped to the first major distribution center near the sender. That may get accomplished the first day depending on when the order was sent out of the warehouse. Then it will then get shipped to the distribution center nearest the receiver. That may take a day or two depending if it goes by air or train, etc. Then it must go to the head post office for your region. Then it must go to your local post office and then to you. All this takes, like I said, 3-5 days.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Napoleon1944: bump. And why do all delays have the same amount of seconds per morale class? 13 seconds to start to move a vehicle, why not some 10 seconds and others 14?

Well, then you're destroying the purpose of having skill classes? If you notice, the delay times change depending on if the unit is in HQ contact range or if is has been "disrupted".
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Marlow: Hey Max, that actually makes a lot more sense than one of your normal posts.

Oh yeah, feed on this... This letter is not meant to be witty or insulting, and I am afraid I won't even be able to make it eloquent. But I will do the best I can to prevent the production of a new crop of the most unbridled dopeheads I've ever seen. First and foremost, not only does Marlow reward mediocrity, but he then commands his yes-men, "Go, and do thou likewise." I must emphasize this because he needs to stop living in denial. He needs to wake up and realize that I, hardheaded cynic that I am, like to face facts. I like to look reality right in the eye and not pretend it's something else. And the reality of our present situation is this: He says that the sky is falling. Wow! Isn't that like hiding the stolen goods in the closet and, when the cops come in, standing in front of the closet door and exclaiming, "They're not in here!"? If Marlow can't stand the heat, he should get out of the kitchen. He supports a wide variety of contrivances. Some are wrongheaded; others are offensive. A few openly support Fabianism. His disreputable viewpoints arose out of an unjust system only to spread more injustice in their wake, proving that there is no end to short-sighted ageism, and hence, by extension, the last time I told his intimates that I want to debunk the nonsense spouted by his apostles, they declared in response, "But Marlow's credos are a breath of fresh air amid our modern culture's toxic cloud of chaos." Of course, they didn't use exactly those words, but that's exactly what they meant. Even without the sick ideology of larrikinism in the picture, we can still say that Marlow has been deluding people into believing that human life is expendable. Don't let him delude you, too. I am not going to go into too great a detail about meddlesome bimbos, but be assured that if he is going to talk about higher standards, then he needs to live by those higher standards. Comments on the above are welcome, but please think them out first. [ 08-16-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Jarmo:

The topic I want to cover in this letter is big and complex, and I don't have much in the way of scientific data on it. Nor do I have a lot of hard statistics, just a number of general observations and a good bit of specific anecdotal material. Here's my side of the story: Jarmo somehow manages to get away with spreading lies (his mistakes are always someone else's fault), distortions (genocide, slavery, racism, and the ystematic oppression, degradation, and exploitation of most of the world's people are all completely justified), and misplaced idealism (we can all live together happily without laws, like the members of some 1960s-style dope-smoking commune). However, when I try to respond in kind, I get censored faster than you can say "roentgenographic". Astute observers have known for years that his popularity is overrated. Or, to express that sentiment without all the emotionally charged lingo, if he opened his eyes, he'd realize that he is all too typical of the sort of crude, self-satisfied scoundrels who brand me as obtuse. It may sound strange to Jarmo when I say that his arguments are dangerous to the health of a democracy, but Jarmo wants to sacrifice children on the twin altars of masochism and greed. You know what groups have historically wanted to do the same thing? Fascists and Nazis. Does he really know anything about the dissertations he claims to support? No, he doesn't. Does he have trouble living with himself, knowing that I take no part in any argument over these or any other views? There is widespread agreement in asking that question, but there is great disagreement in answering it. Jarmo wants to get me thrown in jail. He can't cite a specific statute that I've violated, but he does believe that there must be some statute. This tells me that if Jarmo can't stand the heat, he should get out of the kitchen. He really shouldn't deny both our individual and collective responsibility to live in harmony with each other and the world. That's just common sense. Of course, the people who appreciate his commentaries are those who eagerly root up common sense, prominently hold it out, and decry it as poison with astonishing alacrity. Unfortunately, I can already see the response to this letter. Someone, possibly Jarmo himself or one of his compeers, will write a grotesque piece about how utterly cruel I am. If that's the case, then so be it. What I just wrote sorely needed to be written. [ 08-16-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
 8. Here we go again, FieldMarshall is bitching about something that is easily explained.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by ParaBellum: 4. It's a kind of personel taste, I like DD's and Maximus' uniform mods a lot.

That's funny. 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Juardis: I don't ever go to the general forum and would surely have missed this.

You should, there are some very interesting discussions going on over there as all of us old time CM'ers have discussed to death game mechanics and now we talk politics, religion, law, and Jenna Bush.
 11. gunnergoz, Please reduce your screenshots. A 740K pic takes FOREVER to load on 56K modems. Change the compression ratio on your jpeg saver if nothing else. I have mine set at about 75-80% quality and it reduces them very well yet maintaining picture quality. I just saved it at 85% quality it it reduced it to 420K. You can also shave off some size if you just do a selection and make a new image. By just cutting off the tool bar at the bottom, reduces it to 377K at 85% quality I also noticed you play in 1280x1024 resolution. You can also change the dimensions as you would when making hi-res mods and such. I reduced it down to 80% original size and it brought it down to 379K. So you can see, it can make a big difference.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Bad Monkey!: Hows that for a little "atmosphere"? - Jason

Bad Monkey, You should consider getting Bergman's Stuarts. Get them here.
 13. How 'bout a little sci-fi twist on these? What's wrong with a celestial landscape with planets and stuff in the sky?
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by corn55: 1- Are there any mods to simulate damaged tanks? When a tank gets hit, there is no physical indication that it is knocked out, unless it brews up of course. 2- Are there any mods to minimize those big LOS lines? 3- Any mods to minimize the waypoint blocks? Thanks!~

1) Nope. There are no dynamic textures in the game. Since MOST textures are in themselves modable, it would be impossible to make each new mod dynamic as you say. Besides, BTS gave visual cues for knocked out vehicles rather than damaged textures. Things such as lop-side turrets, slumped guns, broken suspension, and of course the brewed effect. 2) Yes. Right here. 3) Nope. Waypoint blocks are hard-coded among several other things as well. [ 08-14-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: Indeed. I am sure you and many others will join me in hoping that the day soon will come when Fieldmarshall grows up. Hopefully it is not too long away. Some of this talk is quite disgusting, and this bloodthirstyness I find repugnant.

Here, here. It's like everyday Fieldmarshall is bitching about something or posting some utterly ridiculous post or topic.
 16. <baseball hitting bat> "It's way back, it could be, it is a homerun!" Tank, man those are truely superb. Love the second to the last pic. Love the vine-age too. Makes for that good Normandy feel. Not sure about the church. Looks too light to me. However if it does look right with all the buldings together, go for it. Just looks strange by itself in the pic. Still not sure about your roof textures though. I use them, however I'm thinking about reinstalling Panzertruppens.
 17. I like the Black Leather Panzer suit. I think that's the one I'll be using. I'll also add these to my German Uniform CMMOS Ruleset. [ 08-12-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
 18. Hard-coded my man. Can't change those along with several other textures like, pistols, mortars, tracers, 'zooks, 'schrecks, piats, grenades, berets, or tank projectiles.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by LC-: Which leads to my question....is there just one patch for CMBO? version 1.05 or is there another one? I always thought there was two but I could be mistaken. Thank you all for helping me in my great time of dispair

Hmmm, just one burning question. Just 1 or 2 patches? Try TWELVE. Let's have a trip back down memory lane... *Initial CD shipment came with v1.0 1) v1.01 was released during initial shipment to implement fiery explosions and numerous other fixes. 2) Gold Demo was patched to v1.02. 3) v1.03 for full game to fix more stuff. 4) v1.04 to fix more stuff. 5) v1.05 was the final patch before TCP/IP was implemented 6) v1.1b16 was the first Beta patch in the TCP/IP Beta Test. 7) v1.1b22 was the second Beta patch 8) v1.1b23 was the third Beta patch 9) v1.1b24 was the fourth and final Beta patch 10) v1.1 was the Official TCP/IP patch 11) v1.11* was the patch that was required to satisfy those people that didn't participate in the Beta Test *Latest version on current CDs 12) v1.12 was the Final Official patch for CMBO. If you're still playing with v1.05, you're WAAAY out of date.
 20. Well just great! Now I'm going to have to add another Rule for my German Uniform Ruleset. Damn! Just kidding..... Andrew, I assume you don't mind if I use your uniforms in the CMMOS German Uniform Ruleset do you? Fairbairn-Sykes, The helmet cover is very easy to make once you have your basic camo. Just take the arm file, make a 128x128 selection and paste it as a new image. Then save it as 5015.bmp. Whalla, you now have a helmet to match whatever camo you're using.
 21. Don't listen to Aitken as he doesn't believe in improving upon something. Because when you really down down to it, BTS really didn't spend a lot of time on the textures originally. That will be very apparent when you look at such stock textures like the Humber Scout Car, Daimler Scout Car, Churchills, etc. The stock graphics are in most people's opinion pretty much suck. They are what we consider low-res. In other words, the file sizes are relatively small. You will notice that they are what we call hi-res mods. These are mods which use file sizes double and sometimes even triple the size of the original file sizes. This is done to allow the artist to easier paint in a higher level of detail in the file. Because the larger the file, the more the pixels available to manipulize. But of course as you add in more and more hi-res mods, the more VRAM it will take to run them smoothly. I have a 1.2GHz Athlon with a 64MB Geforce 2 GTS card so it doesn't bother my machine a whole lot. However I upgraded from a Celeron 433 with a 32MB TNT2 card and it was getting very choppy with large maps. The first mods you'll want to get are probably the Mad-Dog Mod Packs, they include some new trees, bases, and some vehicle mods that aren't found anywhere else. Also be sure to grab the MDMP sounds as well. But then I'd get DD's Trees. But really, the best terrain mod is Magua's Normandy Pack. It will give you the most photorealistic terrain look yet. But I'd use Juju's Woods Bases with the Normandy set. For buildings, you'll most definately want to get Panzertruppen's buildings. They are featured in about every screenshot you'll see. For vehicles, get everything by Marco Bergman, Fernando J. Buil Carrera, Gordon Molek, PawBroon, and Shane "Feldgrau" Petterson. This is a group of modders who work together to test and relase them in a compatible method to be able to switch between variations easily using batch files. However, coming very shortly, the batch file system will eb phased out with a new program written by Gordon Molek that will make it even easier to switch textures.

 23. Yes, you can even convert a game to Hot-Seat the same way. Just save the game in any mode you're playing. Load the game from the normal Load Game menu. The first thing it will ask you, since it is Multiplayer save, is which mode you want to continue it in.
