Maximus replied to Apache's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Chupacabra, I just found out what a Chupacacbra is. On the History Channel, no less. Strange creature indeed. -
Napoleon1944's bagpipe mod
Maximus replied to Michael Dorosh's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Lord God Almighty, we have us a bagpipe grog! LOL! -
Fernando is working on them. Expect the usual, mono-, bi-, and tri-color versions.

Fog and nighttime effects-how do I get them?
Maximus replied to Bog's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
For starters, what kind of video card do you have? Second of all, there are no special nightime effects, just a night skyline and of course the game engine darkens the hue of everything, as it does for overcast and morning scenarios. If you can see transparent buildings and smoke. But can't see Fog, you probably just have the Fog Emulation Table turned off on your video card. Go to your Display properties and click through the settings under D3D settings and somewhere there should be an option that says something like Fog Emulation Table. Turn it on. -
British/Canadian Winter uniforms
Maximus replied to Michael Dorosh's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Actually I did this mod the same time I did my US winter uniforms. -
Probably not because that would have to incorporate dynamic lighting and Steve has said that that won't be possible until the total engine-rewrite for CMII. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 02-03-2001).]

I think I started with RISK. Then in the early 80's an Apple II game called Global Wars which was a RISK-based game. I bought AH's Flight Leader, boy was that a bitch to play. I tried playing Third Reich. My first computer wargame was Three-Sixty's V for Victory series, followed by AH's World at War series. Three-Sixty also came out with High Command which was basically a computerized Third Reich. It had a few bugs but that was before Internet patches. Then Steel Panthers I and II. Then Soldiers at War. Then Talonsoft's East Front & West Front. Then CM. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 02-03-2001).]

Gordon Molek has already done desert versions of Marco Berman's Stuarts and Shermans.

Damn, haven't seen my Army of Rolling Eyes lately. Must have been a pretty stupid post to bring'em here.

New Game Announcement: G.I. Combat Squad
Maximus replied to Mudfrost's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Did you hit what you thought was the "Reply with quotes" button? I did that too, and then relaized that that was the "edit post" button. They don't have a reply with quotes button. -
New Game Announcement: G.I. Combat Squad
Maximus replied to Mudfrost's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Well, I just went and posted a response to Visom's ridiculous rebuttle to Slapdragon. What made me laugh was that he said CM costs twice as much as any other game. And I said, "so what other brand new game can you buy for $22.50?" -
New Game Announcement: G.I. Combat Squad
Maximus replied to Mudfrost's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
LOL! I'm in the process of registering now. I'll back you up Slapdragon. Seems as though you still can't convince RTS players that their games are just click-fests. -

What's a Mac again? A raincoat? -
No, that's OK, the blurring is caused by the texture warping along the front hull slope there. If you look at the bmp yourself, you'll see that the whole thing is done the same way. So it's just the case as the front hull slopes. Actually that screenshot doesn't do them justice. They look better in-game. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 02-02-2001).]

I think what BTS is saying is that CM2:Eastern Front will contain Hi-Res textures which will require at least a 16MB card but preferably a 32MB one. I know I will probably be getting at least a 64MB card by then, because my TNT2 is getting outdated as it is.

Well CM's mod artists have advanced quite a bit since I worked on my Winter Mods. So I have decided to start redoing the German Armor to more current standards. I started fiddling around with the Panthers this evening and have come up with a pretty interesting look for the Winter Cats now. I used Tiger's latest "battered" Panthers as a base model. I tried using Fernando's a while back, but couldn't come up with anything much different than my older ones. But Tiger's Panthers looked easy enough to winterize, so I thought I'd give them a try. So here's what I came up with: I am going to send them to the CM Outpost for comparison and downloading. I also have some new Winterized German Halftracks based on Fernando's Bi-Color HTs. Anyway, look forward to seeing some new and improved winter German armor in the near future. ------------------ "Upon my signal, unleash Hell."--General Maximus, Gladiator "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 02-01-2001).]

My take on the whole Mac world is I don't like to feed the pockets of the giants. What I'm saying is that for every thing you get/buy for a Mac is that you're feeding the pockets of Steve Jobs. However with PCs, yeah sure you're most likely to have to feed Bill Gates' pockets with your operating system, but I don't have to buy Microsoft video cards, memory, etc. Just like I like and use Netscape, I despise Microsoft Internet Explorer. I REFUSE TO FEED THE MONOPOLY!!!

Comparrison: Sherman III vs. Sherman V
Maximus replied to Maximus's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
But lassey, you forget, the American language is derived from every language around the world. We only use British English as a base. BTW, we can't hardly understand a word you all speak. Mainly as stated above, you all have different names for everything. I still don't understand what a spanner is. A Holiday is a day that is obseverved as a time of reflection on some historical figure or event. A Vacation is the time a person takes off from ordinary every day life (work or school) to go somewhere for a break from daily routines. Exhaust is the by-product of internal combustion engine. It is usually carbon-monoxide and water vapor. A muffler is a device that fits onto an exhaust pipe to muffle the sound of the gasses going through the pipe. Petrol is the short term for petroleum, just as gas is the short term for gasoline. However gas, natural gas, is a fossil fuel that comes out of the ground to be used for heating and such. BTW, English is actually a Germanic language, so there! Also it is underwear, not knickers. But, hey, when the British can come up with a tasty dish, let me know. For the world knows that the British can't make a good tasting dish if their lives depended on it. LOL! This is starting to sound like the Cesspool. What I don't get is even though you have a strange term for something, you still seem to know what the American equivalent is. So who's stealing from whom? It's like French Canadians pretending that they don't know English. Please! What I was gonna do is to do a whole new install into a different dirrectory and upgrade to latest patch. Then install the mods, and scenarios along with any current Italian scenarios out there already. "Swatting at Tigers" is one that comes to mind. I'd like seeing that in the Desert Rats conversion.

Comparrison: Sherman III vs. Sherman V
Maximus replied to Maximus's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
No, no, silly. A "boot" is what you wear on your foot. It is *not* a car trunk. See, you just proved my point. A car trunk is a car trunk. "Pavement" is a mixture of crushed rock and cement or oil, (concrete or asphalt). A sidewalk is a sidewalk. OK, a "lift" I can see. And when a girl asks me to "knock her up in the morning," I say, "No thanks you whore, I can't afford the child support." Again, this post is meant in fun. PS. How do all those British people live in Flats? I knew they were shorter than Americans, but I didn't know they were *that* small! Lennox Lewis excluded, that's one tall M'F'er.
