1. Gammon Bombs are glorified Satchel Charges. They are great at knocking out bunkers and pillboxes. I used them to great effectiveness in the Arnhem Operation. To destroy bridges, you have to pound them with large explosive shells. 105mm and above is usually the preferred calibre. Although a constant bombardment of 81mm mortars will also do the job sometimes for wooden bridges. But trying to use Engineers or whathave you to destroy them just won't work in CM. I'm not sure why it isn't modeled in CM, but it just isn't. Just call in 105mm or larger artillery on a bridge with good LOS and hopefully enough rounds will land on or near the bridge in a small enough area to destroy it. I destroyed a stone bridge a month or so ago with a 155mm barrage I believe.
 2. Yeah, yeah. Nothing new to see here. I wonder if Gordon's gonna do camo versions? Anyway, yeah folks, this one's gonna be nice. The ol' M8/20 Greyhound is finally getting the make-over it definately needed.
 3. LOL! Those Stuart mods are a bit of old news for me. I've had them for QUITE SOME TIME now. Ahh, the glorious wonders of being Gordon's Beta Tester Guinee Pig.
 4. Well now, I'm not so sure. In that CM2 preview article, Charles did say that the Finns will be in it, so one can only assume that there will be Winter War scenarios.
 5. Another way of getting cross broswer compatibility is to going into your composer's preferences and checking the option to make your pages cross compatible. In other words, it will disable things that won't work in one or the other so that the pages will display and work properly in either browswer. Microsoft Frontpage has an option to disable IE stuff that won't work in Netscape.
 6. Here's what I use and it seems to be the most realistic set of terrain graphics.

Gunnergoz's "Real Grass" from The Last Defense.
DD's Trees from CMHQ.
Tiger's Summer & Autumn's Tree Bases from COMBAT MISSIONS.
DD's Snow and winter tree bases from CMHQ.
Tanks a Lot's water from The Last Defense
Tanks a Lot's wooden bunker from Tom's CM HQ.
Panzertruppen's Building set from CMHQ
Magua's Pavement and City Streets from CM Outpost
Pud's Roads from Pud's CM Bits and Pieces.
Tiger's Brush from COMBAT MISSIONS
Juju's Craters and Rubble from here and here both on COMBAT MISSIONS.
Tiger's Sky Pack from COMBAT MISSIONS. There's a few more that I use, but that's a good start. [ 05-25-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Gordon: Gentlemen, My apologies, but I let a bug slip into the batch files when I coded up the US camouflaged truck code. The result of the bug is the "file not found" errors. The effect is that if you try to change from the US camouflaged version to the Free French version the front and rear panels of the truck's load bed will remain camouflaged. I'm sending the corrected version of the batch file to Manx for incorporation into the mod. Anybody who'd like the new files without re-downloading the mod (nothing else has changed), please e-mail me at "g.molek@att.net" and I'll send them directly to you. Again, sorry for the confusion. Gordon

Shame on you Gordon. And I thought I knew you.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Abbott: I am interested in different tactics used by players for employing their Axis armor. What have you found that works for you?

I use them like the ubertanks they aren't.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Bog: More importantly, can this be fixed?

Yeah, just don't do that anymore.
 10. Shameful plug, but Manx has probably gone to bed by now. Here's the Direct Link.
 11. What I did was to Create a new folder called Cmdfdr. Copied over the Bmp folder from the CD because I didn't need all the _opt files that I have in the Cmbo bmp folder. Copied over the Open Play, Wav and CM.exe Created a Scenario folder in the Cmdfdr. Started installing DFDR files. Then installed special effect files like explosions and whatnot.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Pvt. Ryan: Is there a hi-res Daimler AC? I have Gordon's mod, but it doesn't look hi-res, especially the wheels.

PawBroon is going to work on one now that he's got the UC finished.
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Mord: Which one do you have Colonel Deadmarsh? I have four different kinds. all are nice, but I personally like Kwazy Dogs Hires version the most. Mord.

You know I thought that too, but the more I looked at Marco's ambush version, it actually has better detail.

 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Peter Panzer: **** the .bmp files supplied with Ed Durkin’s infantry uniform mod “US ’44 Infantry, US ’44 Airborne, US ’45 Infantry…Version 1.1” and those with DD’s “Full Uniform Pack,” both of which are hosted by the CMHQ site, produce different graphics when applied to the actual game as opposed to what is presented in the sample “thumbnails” on the site.****

Yes you are correct. The sample thumbnail under DD's set is actually incorrect. DD's basic Wehrmacht uniform is one of gray trousers and a green camoed smock. So the incorrect thumbnail is probably the first mistake Madmatt has made all year.
quote:
** [uS uniforms – CMHQ displays: grunts w/green trousers and tan shirts. CM displays: grunts w/ green trousers and shirts, also, the helmets included netting, which tipped me off that, yes, the new files had installed successfully, but without the “advertised” visuals.

The tan shirted, brown trouser US uniform is the 1944 uniform. The all green uniform is the 1945 uniform. US troops changed uniforms in December 1944. So any scenario you play before Dec. 1944, will have tan shirts and brown trousers, and scenario you play in December or after, US troops will have the all green uniforms.
quote:
Volksgrenadier uniforms – CMHQ displays: soldiers w/ green tinted “feld grau” uniforms. CM displays: soldiers w/camo smocks and blue/gray trousers, camo helmets. worlds apart from the thumnail, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless - they actually look fantastic...]**

You're confusing two different mods here. Yes, there is a green-tinted feld grau uniform available, and there is also the green camoed smock you speak of. Note my first paragraph above. The green camoed smock is DD's version, while the feld grau version is Ed Durkin's.
 16. Tom, the link from Netscape to that new wooden bunker doesn't work. It says File not Found.
 17. So how is that different than to going to the graphical user interface and selecting all that from pull-down menus? With command line variables, you still have to type all that out.
 18. Here I am playing an operation where there are 3 pillboxes grouped together in some city streets. The current battle is at night. I take a platoon of crack British Airborne troops around to the rear of the pillboxes. The troops use their Gammon Bombs to take out the pillboxes. The turn ends as the 7-man crew of the last pillbox exits the pillbox. Upon the start of the next turn, the whole platoon opens up on the crew. However, I had two squads between one other squad and the escaped crew. To my dismay, the squad in the rear totally decimated the other two squads in front of it. Killing an entire squad of 10 and only leaving about 4 in the other while losing 4 soldiers itself. So here I was, I lost 20 soldiers in trying to shoot a 7 man crew at point blank range. So the moral of this story is to keep your units out of other units line of fire at night. Especially at close range. Anybody else have anything similar to this happen to them?

[ 05-24-2001: Message edited by: Herr Oberst ]

...I kept calling her "mum" when that was the name of a flower, however that's a different story. The real reason she would beat me is because I would stick one crack over the crapper when it was the other one that would let loose, therefore making a big mess of fecal material all over her brand new bathroom rug. However, having three buttocks came in useful when having extra-curricular activities with the opposite sex as it allowed said person to keep their hands warm while in the act of desecrating the sacred sacrement of sheep shagging. "HEY!" yelled Mace, "that's my job!" "Get outta the way, let me in there!" With that Phillies gleefully stepped aside while Mace stormed through and.....
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Schrullenhaft: There's also a very good chance that you're playing off of the CDROM and not an installation on the hard drive. Make sure any shortcut/alias you have is pointing to CombatMission on the hard drive and not the CD (assuming that you've performed a "Full Install" already).

Schrullenhaft actually maybe on to something there. With all the other trouble Sgt. Biggs is having, it maybe possible that he never actually installed the game. Sgt. Biggs, did you click on Setup.exe on the CD when you first went to it? If not then there's your problem. It sounds like your trying to install mods and scenarios to your CD which isn't gonna work no matter how hard you try.
 21. Does any of the wooden bunker links work? I keep getting "File not Found on this Server".
 22. Folks, the new and improved v2.0 of the US & FF truck mod will be at COMBAT MISSIONS sometime soon. It's all in Manx's hands now. This mod, again, has several different options. Again, we have the optional "painted" slat versions named with the _opt suffix. We also have US Low-Viz and Camo options now. We also have options with the Camo as well. The default camo files will be named as "_us_camo". They have stars on the door side and hood top. We also have low-viz versions of the camo files. They are named "_us_camo_opt". This camo style is different than previous Gordon Molek styles. He got this one out of a book and it appears as two black and field drab wavy lines along the bottom of the textures they're on. Stay tuned for the winter versions, probably sometime early next week. I worked on a desert version this afternoon, but I didn't like the way it turned out. Gonna redo part of it.

It was none other than Gustav coming over the horizon in his fishing trauler and waving to everybody when all of a sudden a huge whale shark rammed nto the boat from underneath, capsizing it and it along with poor ol' Gustav began to sink. "HELP!!!" yelled Gustav, "Somebody throw me a rope!" However, nobody seemed to care. Outraged, Gustav tried to swim to shore when....
 24. Let's bump this just for the Forum's Server Error's sake. Next weekend, look for the REVISED US and FF set of the trucks. [ 05-21-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
