1. Thanx Kwazydog, didn't know about the "W" designation reference or the unit info fact.
2. From another thread, I was under the impression that Shermans didn't brew easily due to wet ammo storage. Or did I read that wrong? [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 06-02-2000).]
3. Well, IIRC, you're the one that was having a hard time with CM's game mechanics as far as it not having the "gamey tactics" that other wargames have. OK, basically the most important thing to remember while playing CM is to just do what makes sense on the battlefield. That's what makes CM so great and different than any other game to date! You don't have to discover what gamey tactics work for this game. You just do what a real-life commander would do to win a battle. Actually, the main objective in CM is NOT capturing the objective flags, but to DESTROY the enemy. Capturing the flags is second priority, and if not unnecessary at times.
4. Yes I know about the gun barrel texture. I'm not that dumb. I had a different name and was quite an veteran poster.
5. If any of you want to pay for a patch, I'll be glad to take your money.
6. The explanation of the actual vehicle is as follows:
quote:
During the Second World War, the development of heavy tanks continued at a fevered pitch. To deploy these tanks to the front line, or retrieve them when damaged or broken, the necessity of a large-scale transport vehicle was heightened. In April of 1943, the U.S. started production of "The Dragon Wagon", one of the biggest tank transport vehicles of WWII. Constructed around an armored cabin and a sturdy trailer, it boasted a loading capacity of 40 tons. Also assisting in the transport of boats for river crossing operations, the Dragon Wagon was a great advantage to the advancement of the Allied Forces.

But I for one, don't recall ever seeing any such vehicles in any documented resources of WWII.
7. CCJ, I like the Panther texure. However, some constructive criticism....the wheels need some work. They look almost 256 color style. Blacken up the outer edges for the rubber. Airbrush the rims with the brown a bit more to "dirty" them up. But otherwise the top part looks great. ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. 8. But anyway, it ain't any particular time here, except Miller Time! or Beer-thirty. ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. When falls the Collosseum, Rome shall fall. And when Rome falls -- the World." **Byron**
9. Oh com'on, Black Sabot, that thread was a classic. Not to mention hilarious. LOL! LOL! Fionn me, Fionn me...oh nevermind. LOL! But anyway, thanks for bringing that up, needed a good laugh.
10. I never liked the CC series anyway. I didn't care at all for the 2D click-fest that CC was. My buddy seemed to like it, especially CC2, but I just could never get into it for the fore-mentioned reasons.
11.
quote:
Originally posted by RCMP: I know you guys are taking a break right now, but was curious about the multi-player option/patch. Will it be available this summer and if so will there be a cost for it?

Well, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Pricing a patch that includes something that was supposed to be in the initial release, but due to time restraints, wasn't??? What other patch(es) have you paid for in the past? And remind me not to buy from that company again. Patches, and driver-updates for that matter, in general is the manufacturing company's way of improving their product over time whether it be due to program bugs or just keeping up with technology. That's like paying for appliance or vehicle repairs while they are still under warranty. When I buy hardware or software, I expect them to work properly, immediately and over time. I'll be damned if I were to have to pay for a patch or new driver set to bring my software or hardware up to date. Recently, I have purchased a SoundBlaster Live! X-Gamer sound card with a reprogrammable processor. All you have to do is download the latest version of LiveWare and it updates the card to the latest technology. Sorry to be a little harsh, but I just shake my head and roll my eyes when I hear people ask, "Will I have to pay for the patch?" [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 05-31-2000).]
12. Well, this has to be the most worthless thread ever. Even worse than some of OB&G's threads.
13. Ahh, tom w, my favorite member. I'm not a new folk, but changed my name after the weekend crash. ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. When falls the Collosseum, Rome shall fall. And when Rome falls -- the World." **Byron**
14. Ahh bad boy Matt ... that's one of those direct linky things that bypasses the frames and all that. LOL! ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. When falls the Collosseum, Rome shall fall. And when Rome falls -- the World." **Byron**
15. Gotcha beat gaffertape. I cranked up the Amis to 150% and it gave me SIXTEEN Shermans. ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. When falls the Collosseum, Rome shall fall. And when Rome falls -- the World." **Byron**
16. I was gonna ride a bike to my sting operation, but someone ratted me out.
17. The exploits of OBG and Mr. Peng?? Who are these legends?
18. But it was Mrs. Peacock in the Library with the Revolver. von shrad, I need you to come with me on my undercover bust operation. I'd be ratted out in 2 seconds. Well, wasn't I right, anyway?? Didn't I say he'd be spelling "CAT", D-O-G eventually?? Sooner or later, bad spelling will bite you in the ass. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 05-30-2000).]
19. Yes Bullethead is right. Actually tall pines don't produce that much cover. Think about it. In a pine forest, the floor is usually covered in pine needles which subdues most undergrowth of which there is little else to hide in besides behind the trees themselves. For the best cover, Woods tiles are your best bet. ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. When falls the Collosseum, Rome shall fall. 20. These are within HQ units right? I think, due to a new POTD or something, if you select the HQ unit and then hit the Unit Info screen <Enter>/<Return> those "bonus" attributes will be displayed in text somewhere in the box. ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. When falls the Collosseum, Rome shall fall. And when Rome falls -- the World." **Byron**
21. Well, a situation similar occurred to me. I have the latest driver 4.12.01.0368 on my desktop which came out 2/03/00. Now... I changed my display driver back to Standard VGA like its readme said to do. Then I double-clicked the little Diamond icon on my desktop to install the new version. Well guess what?? It didn't work properly. Never got my little diamond icon thingy in the system tray and couldn't change the color pallete or resolution. What I ended up doing was having to re-install the original drivers and ICT99 from the CD, to get everything working properly again. So my suggestion is to get a hold of the original Viper installation CD and re-install the original drivers if ICT99 isn't on the computer. Then to later update the drivers, just double-click on the new driver icon from Windows just as you would start any other program. The new driver version installs without a hitch. Actually, there is another DirectX 7 compatible driver that Diamond doesn't have up on it site anymore. I still have a copy of this if you want me to email it to ya. It's like 4.12.01.0353 instead of 0368. Please Note: The newest version takes away some of the tweaking options that the 353 and original drivers had. Like overclocking and anti-alaising, I think. But I think the anti-alaising is automatic now or something.
22. Well, since Rob/1's last thread got closed up. I'll just ask it here. Wasn't his spelling brought up before? Didn't OB&G complain about his spelling only to be chastized about it? I hate to say this, but it seems OB&G was right. And if I were OB&G (which I'm not, thank you!) I think I'd say, "I told you so." ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. When falls the Collosseum, Rome shall fall. And when Rome falls -- the World." **Byron** [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 05-30-2000).]
23. Well put Steve. That's what I was trying to say. Is that most people really over estimate the power of today's average hardware. In fact the main reason behind my software purchasing in the past IS because the "Industry" has always seem to produce games that DO require the latest hardware. So therefore, I couldn't buy much. I always had a system that became obsolete in a matter of months. One example was the game "Navy Fighters" which came out around 1995 I think. It required about a P120 and that's when Pentiums were practically brand new. At the time, I had one of the original P60s with the FPU error. Granted 3D accelerators have helped the low-end systems out tremendously by taking a lot of the load of graphic rendering off of the CPU. But try to do a 1024x768 software mode render of a racing game and you get pitifully slow frame rates. But turn on your Z-buffer and you get sharper, richer textures at an extremely fast frame rate. So with a good 3D accelerator you can extend the life of a average CPU. But in the end, usually within 2-3 years, you'll need to upgrade your CPU. But anyway, the point Steve was making is that actually maxxing out technological advances actually KILLS potential sales because the average Joe Smoe doesn't have the top-of-line hardware. At least it has for me. ------------------ "While stands the Collosseum, Rome shall stand. When falls the Collosseum, Rome shall fall. And when Rome falls -- the World." **Byron**
24. Actually John, you wouldn't believe it, but...in "Kelly's Heroes" Donald Sutherland's character called out for the use of WP in the marshalling yard scene.
25. I'm not familiar with Combat! What is it about?
