I've actually been thinking about getting "COMBAT MISSION" stitched into the back of my bomber jacket. GAFF

Thinking about buying Combat Mission
gaffertape replied to Aussie_Shooter22's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Welcome to the club, sir! Sounds like Mr Faller is a pretty good teacher; he certainly knows his wargames. Trust me: This is the most realistic WWII combat simulation, bar none. Yet, at the same time its relatively easy to learn; just hard to master. Buy it. You will not be disappointed. Regards, GAFF -
The next game you will buy after CM

Pike: No Urban Ops in the UK yet? That's a heck of a delay, sir. Clancy's latest, Covert Ops is even out here in Canada. Urban Ops is certainly worth getting when it arrives. Very replayable (and for some reason Rogue Spear runs twice as well on my system since installing UO). GAFF -
Kitty: Get another free e-mail account. They aren't always problem free either, but both of the ones I'm listing do handle ZIPPED text files with little difficulty. chickmail.com eudoramail.com GAFF

Player 1: Which version are you using? I've got the 62/F mod with the additional Panther upgrade by Squiffy. I've also converted to the MG34 and have added RufusG's Sherman side skirts. Player 2: Oh sorry, I have the CM Lightning mod with upgraded Hellcats and Stuarts, along with the Brenmod and GaryF's DUKW conversion. Even if all of the potential mods were well researched and advisable, not everybody would want the same ones. BMPs and WAVs are different as they only affect the individual, but if you start modding unit stats then you have essentially created a different game. The painstaking work that BTS put into the project would be cruelly diluted. This isn't a blanket statement - Some games really do benefit from alterations. I just don't think that CM is one of them. I for one would only accept unit statistic mods if BTS themselves were releasing them, AND the majority of the community used them. Seattle CM Game Day Saturday 14 Oct
gaffertape replied to citizen's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Have fun, Matt! NOTE: You should have the latest PBEM turn now; sorry 'bout the mix up. GAFF -
I think the Mosquito with the 37mm cannon was most often used as a shipbuster, not a tankbuster (although I may be wrong). Hard to judge shell-time-to-target with the 37 versus a relatively small target like a tank. Much easier with a destroyer. GAFF

I can't say for sure in Pawbroon's case, but if, say, you had a game with Gaffertape, I'd recommend that you bring your troops out of the woods so that his Sherman could mow them down at a distance. GAFF

I'm game, Kitty, although I do not have ICQ. Have you upgraded to 1.05? Send a turn. I'll play whatever you like. - Shaun GAFFERTAPE

WWB: There's my answer. I checked the status and it does indeed say 'cannot embark during battle'. I guess I'd better get the truck out of there before it buys the farm. Thanks to you all for the input. GAFF

crepitis: A lot of us here still try to help, and generally steer clear of the inflammatory debates. I'm pleased to see that most of the controversial stuff getting is getting locked up lately. People are free to e-mail each other and have private political debates. Keep the faith. GAFF

Thanks Olle. Can't test it until the next turn. The orders mentioned that this truck was available if I needed to move the 88 so I assume it must be possible.
-
Our thoughts are with you, sir. GAFF
-
Greetings all. I have a truck (stopped) parked with its rear practically touching an 88. Neither unit has a 'hitch' or 'limber' command. How do I get them to hook up (besides buying both units some cheap wine). GAFF

The UK is S*** - its official

I happen to like my left-leaning Canada, gentlemen. The right wing government in Ontario at the moment is wreaking havoc with social programs, education and the environment. Nader is most welcome here. GAFF -
Pillar: Please keep us informed on this thread if BTS resolves this issue. I still don't know what we're talking about, and I have total faith in my PBEM opponents, but it'd be nice to know when this issue is resolved, sir. GAFF

How did you guys first hear of CM?
gaffertape replied to russellmz's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I think I came across it at combatsim.com; grabbed the beta demo and the rest is history. GAFF -
Bovington Tank Museum: info requests?
gaffertape replied to PeterNZer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Have a great time! I was at Bovington some ten years ago. I still remember the sound of Chieftains firing on the range nearby. GAFF -
This just has to be in the addon pack.

Tiger what the hell is that... That... THING on the Sherman chassis? Looks like a prop from a bad sci fi movie. Those side tubes don't seem to have room enough behind them OR any ability to elevate. Nor do I see any way that crewmen would have room near that centre gun to fire the ball MGs. Any more info on that thing? GAFF -
30 years and now this!
gaffertape replied to flyingcursor's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Ah, the little 'corner fluff' bits on the counters... We actually found a way around this - take nail clippers to the corners and take off a millimetre or so. I recall that it took hours when we took the clippers to Squad Leader. EDITING: D-oh! Just read the Michael Emrys post which describes the exact same thing... Nice to know that others came up with the same solution. GAFF [This message has been edited by gaffertape (edited 10-04-2000).] -
Yeah, judging by the size of that barrel it's the AVRE. Big honking petard launcher... Innaccurate as hell but ideal for bunker busting. GAFF

Not So Superbowl thread no.2
gaffertape replied to Jadayne's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
All of my Group A games are moving right along. Strangely enough my game with JADAYNE started last and we're already getting close to done - Lots of mutual death and destruction. GAFF
