  1. Just my 2 cents: If camoflage is factored in (and I doubt that it is), it would only be valid for the original un-modded skins that BTS supplied. None of the modders can change the stats of any of the units, they can only repaint them. GAFF
  2. Be patient. CM2 will cover the Eastern Front. 'Skins' can be repainted, but only the designers can alter the actual 3D models, so nobody has created Russian tanks. Uniforms would be possible (as its just a colour change). You likely won't find a lot of people on this board anxious to do what you are describing, due to the detailed realism of CM. To do it right you would need to plug all possible Russian weapon data into the new models; and that's if you had access to the code (which is not public) BTS are already working on the sequel, my friend, and it will be magnificent. 3. I don't know the answer to that, but you CAN play a 'hotseat' game sharing the same PC (taking turns). GAFF
  4. DIENEKES has hit the nail on the head. I no longer even bother browsing in EB for the latest releases. CM will supplant any ten games you currently own. Buy it and you will not be disappointed (just look at all of us fellow Canadians who do not regred spending the extra coin). GAFFERTAPE A Screaming Socialist and proud of it
  5. Brilliant, Marco! I can't recall where I picked up your other terrific mods. Do you put your works of art on a specific website that I could bookmark? GAFF
  6. I simply do not see myself tiring of this game. Even just against the AI its a different experience each time. Throw in PBEM and its just about limitless. I hold some burning hatred for CC4, but although I haven't played CC2 or 3 in awhile, I wouldn't say I never will again. Different kind of game really. I would miss the 'up close and personal' aspect of CM though. GAFF
  7. Thanks for clearing that up BABRA; good info. PS: I haven't forgotten the tentative expedition to Worthington (Borden), I've just been rather busy at work. My car is tiny, but it'd be neat to see the place again. GAFF
  8. Interesting thought. I know that the Germans used command tanks, but did the allies? I always got the impression that our COs used armoured cars (not that this would change your suggestion at all, and I think its a good one). GAFF, a fellow Canuck
  9. I think the M14 was derived from the M1 Garand, not the other way around. Not sure about the M14 caliber though. GAFF
  10. SILVER STARS: Your latest description of the BAR sums it up pretty well. A stopgap weapon between a rifle and a HMG. The MP44 though, is the worlds first assault rifle (sturmgewher?); the forefather of the standard army issue weapon today in all nations. The concept was to make a submachinegun that had more stopping power and range, and would be good for suppression fire as well. It used a cartrige that was larger than a SMG round but smaller than the rifle's. It was an excellent weapon, and not in the same category as the BAR. The MP44 is an upgunned SMG, not an LMG. BTW, Great topic. GAFF
  11. PATBOIVIN: Gotta love X-COM. I despised Apocalypse - it took all of the scare out of the game. I still remember the time when one of my troops went berserk while still on the ramp of the dropship. She did a 180 and fired her rocket launcher right into it, frying 6 other troopers and herself. Much like CM, you finish a game with some great stories. Maybe the much delayed sequel will recapture the magic. GAFF
  12. Interesting that there are lots of Urban Ops players here (myself included). There is only one other game that I regularly play: The orignal 'X-COM: Ufo Defence'. An oldie (1994?) but one hell of a goody. Not really comparable to CM except for its ability to make you truly connect with your soldiers and scream along with them as they die horribly. GAFF
  13. Excellent point, IRON DUKE. And they say there's nothing new to learn on this board. GAFF
  14. I understood that the LAV was made in Canada for export up until now. If manufacture switches to Michigan that would be quite a dollar loss for us Canucks. GAFF
  15. I can only speak for me - Both STUKA and CROSSBAR are giving me a hard time in the snow. I'm not liking my chances for round three. GAFF
  16. The prices for the 1/18 Sherman and the Panther are significantly more here in Canada, but they can be found (at least in Toronto). Saw the 1/6 Stuart too - Funny to see such a huge replica of such a relatively small tank. GAFF
  17. I'd love this machine as well. We Canadians just don't have a scout car with teeth as it stands. So far no new vehicles have been added to the game (just paint schemes); I have no idea how much work would be needed to create new working models and I haven't heard BTS commenting as to whether they would consider adding more units to CM1. But hey - the Staghound gets my vote if it happens. GAFF Toronto Canada
  18. Well, the original B17 was pretty buggy but it engrossed (and terrified) me like no other game except maybe X-Com. I think that I'll like B17II even if they screw some of it up. Luckily, my computer will need a major overhaul to even play it, so by the time I get to play it I'll already have heard responses to it. GAFF
  19. One of the true grognards must know the detailed answer to this one. I do know that the Panther's 75 had a very potent muzzle velocity; it was a terrific gun, and a lot of people (Stephen Ambrose included) erroneously think that the Panther had an 88 because it was such a good tank killer. GAFF
  20. Happy birthday Doug! If I were feeling really generous, I'd reverse my Hetzer towards your infantry, but I fear it would be 'gamey' Have a nice strong beer for me sir! GAFF
  21. Sounds good. Nice quip there, Jadayne, you King Tiger killing big meanie. GAFF
  22. Came across a mention of it at combatsim.com , went to Battlefront and downloaded the old Beta demo. Been hooked since then. GAFF
