  1. Best Mark IV mod that I've seen. Can't wait to get ahold of it. - GAFF
  2. Ah, I might as well join this bizarre bandwagon. GAFF
  3. I think that the idea is to generate another level of FOW. The attacker knows which flag he's going for, but the defender has to guess at the most probable objectives the attacker is going to target. GAFF
  4. Wolf - This is just what I've been waiting for. A hearty thanks from the arctic wastes of Canada. GAFF
  5. This is the great thing - even if the movie DOESN'T fulfill our expectations, they will reprint the original book, but likely with a movie poster for a cover. If its by William Craig, I think you can be sure it isn't one of those god awful 'novelizations' of a movie. Not too long ago I bought an old paperback of Blade Runner by P.K. Dick. It had the movie poster on the cover, but the book was Dick's original novel - "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" which is substantially different than the film. (Still a good read, but more of a dark comedy than a thriller). GAFF
  6. Glad to hear that your recovery was so speedy! Best wishes! GAFF
  7. Shame if its a hoax - I did enjoy the story of its history. The article I read had the same info as REXFORD - 3 were made, and 3 were destroyed pretty quickly. So the story goes, Stalin was impressed by a pair of KVIIs that held off a wave of German tanks. He felt that a supertank would fare even better. I must admit though, that this monster seems to go against the sound design principles of mid-to-late war Russian tank design. GAFF
  8. Its been said before, by myself and others - I think the secret is in the 'stories'. Like the original X-Com, CM generates these little unexpected events that entirely put the player in the shoes of his men. When your lone Bazooka squad unexpectedly dispatches a Tiger, and then risks being over-run by infantry; when your Greyhound punches through enemy lines and drives like hell to avoid incoming fire; when your battered Hetzer survives the battle while the heavier German armour burns on the field... CM just has so many wonderful moments that capture the terror and the heart-stopping action of combat. And yes, the fist-person perspective obviously brings one much closer to the action. GAFF
  9. Worth seeing - Its a movie that gets a lot of the details right. As mentioned, however, it does really begin to lose its steam after awhile. Its advertised as being 'made by the people who brought you Das Boot', but Das Boot is the superior film. GAFF
  10. Sorry lad, I deleted the demo once I got the final version. Search the forum though for an alpha screenshot - it REALLY illustrates how far they've come. The beta version was a big improvement; the biggest visual difference was that troops weren't modelled to run, so although their legs would move at a slow rate they would rapidly 'float' along the battlefield. GAFF
  11. I'm interested. Either side. But as a player, NOT a CO... I can handle the responsibility of ONE burning tank, but not a whole platoon of them. GAFF
  12. Sorry sir - your profile does not include an e-mail. I see that you're in Hong Kong, but your handle indicates that you're from Wisbech. Wisbech, Norfolk, UK perhaps? GAFF
  13. Say, Von Shrad, I think there may be an error in your calculations - not that it'll change the fact that I lost round two... I just lost it worse. If I'm reading it right, you have this: B1. Crossbar 16 vs ** Gaffertape 84 ** B3. Gaffertape 46 vs ** Stuka 54 ** However, these scores are reversed, sir. CROSSBAR smoked me and I barely squeaked by STUKA. It should be: CROSSBAR 84 vs Gaffertape 16 GAFFERTAPE 54 vs Stuka 46 - GAFF
  14. This really shouldn't happen at all - but I refer to the situation, not the AI reaction. If you're racing scout units right into an area where there is likely to be an enemy tank then you shouldn't expect the AI to react 'realistically' to an unrealistic situation. I certainly haven't read any accounts of a Greyhound or a Humber accidentally whacking into a manned German tank in combat. Scout units are capable of spotting enemy units from decent range - rushing them headlong into a built up or heavily forested area is only going to get them killed. 15. Yeah, I recall the first time I saw a tank push a wreck out of its way - one of the many excellent details in this game.
  16. I'll take you up on that. Thanks for the recommendation (don't know why I didn't before). GAFF
  17. I'm an audio visual technician in Toronto, and we use gobs of the black tape known as 'gaffertape'. As an added bonus, by shortening the name to 'Gaff', it references the Edward James Olmos character from Blade Runner, my all-time favorite flick.
  18. SKIPPER: Now that CMBO is just about perfect, the lads at BTS have begun work on CM2. It *is* the Eastern Front, and it covers 1941 to 1945. We are all looking forward to it. GAFF
  19. I fear that you will not find anyone here who will be willing to give up their CM. Surely BTS are going to make more that you can order. I know the wait stinks, but its worth it. So is the price tag. GAFF
  20. I've considered using DD's subdued terrain because it looks awesome, but I fear a huge slowdown with my old dog of a PC. Anyone know how much the DD terrain would affect it? GAFF
  21. The original Squad Leader, and probably around the same time, B17: Queen of the Skies. GAFF
