  1. Why would it be a problem? Perhaps you'd have a shortage of scenarios if a bunch of really popular modules came out and you didn't buy any of them. I really don't think it's unreasonable to have a map only playable if a module is installed. If a map designer wants to use elements added in a module it's only logical.
  2. Does the Dual-core 2.3GHz PowerPC G5 count... http://www.apple.com/powermac/specs.html </font>
  3. I just picked up a 12" iBook w/1.5GB of RAM. Very nice machine, I plan on getting a 17" Powerbook after the Intel's have been out a while. I'm getting to the design business and I'm so glad I'm doing it this year and not last. I'd hate to have to invest thousands into PPC software. That said, that Quad is going to be amazing for a long, long time. Luckily the tower's aren't horribly underpowered like the Powerbooks are. I am interested to know about BFC's status on Universal Binaries. That would be amazing. Is it going to be Mac OSX PPC only?
  4. Well if you want to buy a computer today that will have a good video card 8-10 months from now get the 7800. Other then that'd I'd stick with what it comes with and grab the latest card at the time. Oh and there is no dualcore 2.5. There is a dual dualcore, is that what you are getting? drool....
  5. Just to make sure I understand, are you saying the Syrian player will not under any circumstance, QB, scenario or campaign, be able to call in air strikes? </font>
  6. I believe that is the M21. A modernized M14 designed for sharpshooters. The Delta snipers have one in Blackhawk Down IIRC. Obviously 2 snipers taking on a huge number of people isn't likely in this game but does the US operate with sniper teams at all? I could see them being useful in a situation similar to the one BFC outlines for CMSF.
  7. Last PowerMac's to boot OS9 were dual 1.25's. Pretty much anything with USB2 will not book OS9. Not sure about the Powerbooks or iBook offhand.
  8. Okay an idea. A squad sustains casualties. They are assessed a movement penalty based on the casualty and are shown as having wounded members. The squad retains that handicap for the duration, or it links with a medical unit and transfers casualties off at a certain rate (obviously varies depending on casualties, experience and supression, 3 casualties per min say). It is removed of the movement bonuses. Just an idea...gotta run to school
  9. How will this be handled? The marines have a strong 'no one left behind' attitude. How is it handled in RL for that matter? If a marine is hit in Iraq do the helivac him? Bring him with them if he's stable? Looking for insight here.
  10. Thread from the dead here but.... That isn't happening in the Mac programming community! There is progress. The is a plan. What BFC needs is a Apple Pentium 3.6Ghz devbox!!!
  11. Okay so what's this? We have 3 maybe 4 examples of women performing well in combat. How many women are over there? Now I'm not saying they can't be good soldiers, they are not as effective in combat as men. If they were, they would have been used more.
  12. What happen's when a mixed gender squad gets into trouble? I imagine being cut off, out of command and control could get pretty racy. The hot chick in squad morale bonus comes with an overall stamina reduction. Sorry, I hadn't even thought about it. I really don't think it matters how women perform in combat or the police/SWAT team etc. I am unsure if it's worth modeling women at CM's level. If anything call the troops things that are not gender specific and have a 1 in 50? 1 in 100? chance of having a soldier with less stamina and more morale? I don't know if I need to see a female character (in CM!). [ November 03, 2005, 06:38 AM: Message edited by: Colin ]
  13. I can't wait until a PBEM where I just pick a 5000 pt UAV and arty force force and run them over and over until I route everyone. There should be a nice bonus for routing when the troops realize a drone is calling in arty. Morale crushing narc drones. I remember seeing footage of Iraqi regulars surrendering to the Predators from a battleship.
  14. If this isn't in for the first release it most likely will not be in CMx2 unless they have extremely modular code. It would take far more work to make it easy to add this later then it would to put it in now. The FOW thing isn't a reasonable argument. It's a still a game. I just think that it would add FAR more to the gaming experience then it would take away. If you are putting that much effort into researching me by downloading other game movies I've made then hell you deserve to beat me at the game. And if you only have one strategy a decent opponent will beat you the second, third fourth etc regardless of whether he's seen exactly which building that schrek (err...Javelin?) was in on turn 1. So regardless I know BTS will try their best, as they always do. Just means I'll send them some Canadian beer this Xmas instead of nothing (being a better gift then US beer, of course). 15. I really really want this. This has been missing in the CMx1 engine and if it doesn't get in now it will be another 5 years. The ability to save movies would really set this apart from other war games. Imagine the AARs!!!! I'd imagine it would have real utility for military customers.
  16. Well. LOL I am pwned. I've try to engage heli's in BF and it's hard. There would defintly be an effect of shooting AT rockets at helis. They might think you were equipped for AA and leave which is almost as good as destroying them. I still don't think the Syrian's would have many heli's anyway.
  17. Hmm...well I'm thinking if I'm a Syrian irregular and I have a SAM and a tank is coming at me, I'm gonna point and shoot and hope for the best rather then die waiting for a plane to come. If a LT ever saw you fire the TOW at a helicopter I'd imagine you'd have some hell to pay. Also you'd need a helicopter to shoot at in the first place.
  18. Just a question regarding the TOW. Isn't it Tube launched, Optically sighted, Wire guided? How can you jam or confuse a missile that isn't aiming itself and it connected physically to the launcher?
  19. I'm sorry I should elaborate. A check being an abstraction. Maybe I'm wrong about CM:BO. Perhaps it was only HQ units that had rallying ability etc simulated. I remember them saying that if a machine gunner was hit it was assumed another member would drop his rifle to shoot the MG. Were all units in a CMx1 squad simulated equally (experience lvl = X, weapon X with range X, and morale/suppression value X)? [ October 25, 2005, 11:56 PM: Message edited by: Colin ]
  20. I'd imagine someone else would take the lead but their capabilities (command delay, ability to rally etc) would be decreased. That's been in since CM:BO IIRC.
  21. Again, looking for a real answer from BFC. As far as I can tell the reason they were hurt by Apple during CM's dev period is not an issue now. The problem was Apple's change from RAVE to OpenGL without letting the dev's know. This is not a threat. If anything right now Apple has the most complete roadmap they've ever had. C'mon BFC. Don't make Steve a liar! So are you delaying because you believe Apple will change the APIs again, despite the obvious course then next 2-3 years will take (you know planning beyond that is impossible). If it's the jump from Codewarrior to Xcode I know that it pretty big but probably easier now then later. [ October 25, 2005, 03:18 PM: Message edited by: Colin ]
  22. So is there any reason coding couldn't be done in universal binary format? I thought Apple had made it fairly clear which API was going to be used. I don't believe that Mac user's will end up in a RAVE vs DirectX situation as was the problem with CMx1 that kept it OS 9.
  23. thank you for the discussion, very informative either way. I am versed in WW2 but only know modern small arms.
  24. Indeed, as well does Syria. If it can br proven that the Syrian government is supporting the insurgency, terrorist attacks or attacks on American troops in Iraq, that would be reason enough for the US to use military action. The US has never surrendered it's right to defend herself or her allies. </font>
  25. The AK-74 which would probably be used more commonly in a 2007 Syrian Army The AK-47 featured the short 7.62x39mm round that leaves the gun at about 700M/sec. The 74 uses a 5.45x39mm (I've heard it's actually 5.62mm). It leaves the gun at 900/m second and has much better penetrating tendencies then the AK-47 does because it has a better flight. The 47 is noted for having a heavy round that dropped off after 300 meters limiting accuracy as well as having a large left kick. None of those problems in the 74. The other weapons that could be Syrian use these rounds: RPK : 7.62x39mm RPK-74 : 5.45 x 39mm AKS-74 (SMG style): 5.45mmx39mm PK and PKS (GPMGs) use a full 7.62 x 54R have a muzzle velocity at least a 100m/s faster then the AK-47 does. I believe they could also have AN-94's. [ October 20, 2005, 09:23 AM: Message edited by: Colin ]
