  1. I'm in Winchester VA but I work at Dulles. Aberdeen is a great idea.
  2. I meant to say that in my first post KRM. My units are at realistic size and there are no gaps between wires. Besides, this is happening to the units that run smack dab in the middle of the wire as well, not just the edges. All I can say is that it does happen mostly on slopes.
  3. I did a search but I could not find a response to the barbed wire problem some people are having. I have seen the Amis run right through the middle of barbed wire several times with absolutely no slowdown. When I click on the team the info window does not say "barbed wire" in the "located In" box even while they are smack dab in the middle of the tile. I have noticed that it does this most often when I put the wire on the hill right in front of Plomville to prevent the Amis from a fast charge over the hill and into town. Maybe the bug has something to do with the slope or the fact that I have put the wire so close to the edge of the "green" (or is it black) boundry? Like I said...I have seen this 5 or 6 times now. One possible response was that the first team through a point in the tile will "cut" the wire. Is this true BTS?
  4. I remember reading in the alpha battle classic AAR a description of the panther graphics by Fionn. He stated that when the tank turned in place, one track would move forward and the other track would move in reverse, just like a real tank. It seems that the tanks in the demo will not do this. One track moves forward but the other track is still. Was this little graphic candy taken out of the final game from the alpha version????
  5. The Americans also had going for them the fact that they were the best fighting men on earth.
  6. About the prisoners.........Do you actually have to send them off the map to get the points for them????
  7. Same thing has happened to me several time. Scale is on realistic when placing wire. US teams run through it with no slow down.
  8. I have not yet had any luck getting these zippos to the front for usage. I will try to employ Steves suggestion of holding them back and calling em up at the right time. I did, however, almost get to see the AI use one! I was playing as Germans and I gave the Allies +100% (man....if you loose that 75mm gun it is OVER!!!). Anyway...I was beaten back to the top of the main objective hill and all I had left was the reserve platoon of 44 pattern Jerries. I had em in the woods fighting to the last man. It was working fairly well as the Allies were comming up the hill and into the woods to assault me in waves (AI had used all the Arty). Anyway ..mixed in with two rifle squads and a zook was a flammer comming into the woods. I knew the battle was over for me anyway so I really wanted to see this thing fry me. Nope....cut down HARD. Whatever fight my boys had left in them they directed to the Zippo. I guess I would to.
  9. I have two quick questions. 1. Do AI tanks ever unbutton after buttoning up? After the close action settles down, it would be to their advantage. 2. I was looking at the paint job of Fionns Panther G in the alpha battle AAR classic and I like the look of the hanging extra treads being unpainted (as compared to the Panther G in VOT). My questions is: Are there multiple paint jobs on the tanks in the game? (I know it was common practice to paint the tank as a whole but I like the look of the Alpha Panther).
  10. When I was at Aberdeen I did notice that they had plans inside the building to construct a huge shelter for all the tanks and field guns. I really dont know how realistic the plans are (they had one of those mini models of the "future Aberdeen" under glass). It would be nice if they could restore all those Panzers and protect them. You not allowed on the tanks but I jumped up anyway to have a look inside some of them and they are a mess. It would be a HUGE job to restore them.
  11. My buddy and I (who I am trying to get interested in CM) took a trip to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds tank display today in Maryland. All I have to say is OUTSTANDING!!! Anyone who is within a three hour drive of the place should go. They have a HUGE collection of WW2 and modern tanks and field guns. Mostly WW2 though. Many WW2 German tanks because when the Allies captured German tanks they sent them to Aberdeen for testing (many have shell holes in them and some really cool glancing richochets!!). My buddy and I used to play CC2 against each other and I want him to play CM. Short list of some of the armour there are: Pz IV with turret skirt Pz V Panther A Pz V Panther G Marder III Hetzer StuH 42 Jagdpanther Jagdtiger (many richochets off front armour) Churchill Firefly T-34 SU-100 JS-3 Nebelwerfer <--- The German rocket launcher Many small arms (BARS, MG 42, M1's..ect..) Some realizations..... The Panther is a VERY intimidating tank. I got chills just looking at that monster. The Jagdtiger is F-ing HUGE!!!!!!! 80 tons!!!!!Very high profile. To actually touch this stuff and feel how very solid and tough they are hits home. CM will not be the same. They had an M-1 there but to tell you the truth.......Panthers are way more intimidating. Go if you can...its free!!!! Oh yeah....in the gift shop they sell those WW2 german action dolls. Really detailed.
  12. Look...Username......I can find a few "imperfections" with the AI too. I do agree that in the VOT battle the AI does send in squads to attack piecemeal sometimes and I would like to see it mass a platoon with an HQ unit and attack in force. But for the MOST part it does do this. I see the AI drop down MG's on the southern hill to cover the attacking squads. I even had the AI LEVEL the town of Plomvillle (sp?) with arty because I had two reinforced platoons there and it did it with FOW on! That is exactly what I would have done!!! My point is...it is the best AI that I have seen for the PC. I accept Steves explanation and I very much praise BTS for this revolutionary combat simulator. Calling it a game does it no justice. Enjoy it......or I wish you luck with your ulser.
  13. I think the defensive smoke you are seeing around squads is from the 81mm mortars.
  14. I have read that Steve promises the AI does NOT cheat.
  15. Yes....captured squads will break for freedom if you leave them unattended and they are near the front or there are a few enemy squads in the area. So even if you have a whole platoon around a surrendered MG team if the enemy shows up in any kind of force the captured team might run for it. It is pretty wild to see. They will drop their arms and start to bolt. They usually get cut down rather quickly though. My question is.....do you have to actually march the prisoners off the map to get points or can you just march them to the rear and guard them? I love to keep a small prisoner camp at the rear but I understand that prisoners are worth double points so if I have to march 'em off the map I will!
  16. 1. Are mortars allowed to fire out of woods? I ask because I just cant get the indirect fire feature to work. I am linked to company HQ who has LOS to target and try to drop mortar shells on him from behind in woods and it just wont fire. Someone explain!!! I saw the AI was set up this way when I was Allies and those mortars fired from woods. 2. I has seen now, a few times, US infantry just run right through my barbed wire and not slow down....Whats up???
  17. I just got done playing VoT for the first time blind. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did manage to pull off a win 68 to 32 as Allies. I LOVE not knowing what is out there!!!!! What a huge difference!!! 1. Arty is GOD.......I must have replayed the movie 100 times on the arty attacks. 2. I see that the Schrecks have the blastplate....cool 3. 150 mm Inf gun hits hard!!!! I thought it was the end of the world!!! 4. Didnt get a chance to use flammers....bummed....I wish they could run but I read that thing weighed 85 pounds plus!!! 5. The panther is a work of art. I got lucky and immobilised him with zook...crew bailed later..whew!!!! 6. Couldnt get 60 mm mortars to do indirect...I'll read how again. I'm sure I'm messing it up. BTS.......Thank you so much for this VERY HIGH QUALITY program. My girlfriend hates you....but I love ya!!!!
  18. Has anyone read "A Blood Dimmed Time"? Is this paperback any good?
  19. agggg....no pictures that way!!! But thanks anyway.
  20. Sorry Maddmatt....but exactly where at CMHQ do I click for the printable version?
  21. Yup....installed Direct X 7.0A and it is fixed. Thanks to all.
  22. Hey Fionn, The way you are putting the turns on the website is non-friendly to printers. What I mean is...when I print out the turns, it cuts half of the page off! The right half to be exact. This happened with the first few turns in the Alpha Battle AAR but by the mid teens turn you started posting them in a different way and they became printer-friendly. Any chance you could do this again?
