  1. Yeah but to drop bombs or fire rockets you cannot be at treetop level. You have to dive on the target to aim the weapons correctly. Also....you better be high enough so that bomb blast doesnt get you!!!!
  2. The problem I have with the Air Support is that it is not loud enough. The aircraft sounds are very faint (the aircraft engine sounds should be loud because there is no terrain up there to absorb the sounds). Also you can never tell when an A/C has been shot down. The message that tells you is usually too vertical and out of sight to read.
  3. I'm sure it does not crash on the map....someone is not telling you the truth. [This message has been edited by Lanzfeld (edited 07-08-2000).]
  4. That sounds like too much micromanagment to me. JMHO.
  5. If you tow a four wheeled gun behind a truck (like the British 40mm) the guns "base" (the part with the wheels)will never turn so it appears that the truck is dragging the gun at right angles. This does not effect gameplay but it hurts the eye.
  6. What is a good view to watch an aicraft attack from? My AA gunners see the aircraft before the attack (it seems to be on the horizon) and draw an attack line to it with the distance showing (and ticking down) but then the line jumps almost straight up and I cant tell if I hit the aircraft of not. It is really kinda frustrating! Any way to keep the "data" info in sight through the attack? Also....does anyone notice that the aircraft sounds are REALLY weak? I can almost never hear them. When I play the WAV files they are loud but in the game they are a whisper. I know that the aircraft is far away (relatively speaking) but a little louder sound would be nice. (There are no bushes or trees or anything between the plane and the troops to absorb sound so the aircraft sound would travel farther and clearer). One last observation......It is kinda funny to tow a British 40mm AA gun from a truck (any gun with 4 wheels for that matter) because the "base" of the gun (the part with the wheels) never turns. What I mean is it never changes its heading. So if my truck turns the corner it appears to "drag" the gun sideways.
  7. Spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!! The key seems to be smoke. HARD lesson learned.
  8. I just played the Fire and Maneuver battle and got whooped by the AI. I almost always beat the AI but not in this one. It seems that I know dick about using cover. Nice job BTS!
  9. Good point Teach. As far as the "tanks off road in deep snow" question, I have noticed the same thing and even brought it up in a thread but really didnt get any response. I guess its just one of those things that a human does better than a computer.
  10. You really also have to consider that fact that you really DONT know what you would do under heavy fire and combat stress. In a "world is comming apart" nasty firefight you might go mad with rage or fright and throw or shoot ANYTHING you had into that building. Trust me......stranger things have happened.
  11. I just wanted to hear what people like to do with the good men that they capture. Do you send them to a "Guard" house in the rear or do you send them off the map? Also.....do you still get double points for the prisoners if you send them off the map??? I once got really pissed at the AI for nailing my STU42 so I put all my prisoners in a house and hit it with my flamethrower. Hey...they are good for something!
  12. I was playing a quick battle tonight and something happened that I just had to share. I was attacking a town as a German Mech company. I had flanked myself quite nicely into the town and I wanted to bring up my 250/1 (small German halftrack w/MG) to put some fire on a 30 cal crew in a building. Well, the halftrack was on a road heading for a T-junction hauling butt into town (buildings everywhere). I heard the sound of a .50 cal and, unfortunately, the halftrack got nailed. Now for the cool part. It was going so fast that it rolled straight ahead and never made the turn at the T-intersection! It slammed into a building and came to a quick stop! Damm that was so cool to watch! Just two questions.....really one question and an observation. 1. In the 1.01 patch readme it says that we can run prisoners. I captured about 15 various prisioners in this game and I could not run them at all. I just walked (moved) them to a building in the rear with a guard (crew). Anyone else have luck? 2. I noticed that when a halftrack gunner gets hit you can still see two men inside the halftrack although really you only have one (cant use the MG). This bothered me until I realized that there are still two men in the halftrack.....one is just wounded or killed. Cool! [This message has been edited by Lanzfeld (edited 07-03-2000).]
  13. I have noticed that most of the time when the AI sends vehicles down a road it does not put them on the road itself but moves them next to the road in the clear grass (almost touching the road but not quite). Does it do this because it is worried about the road being mined or is it a pathfinding bug? I built a scenario (like the AT gun ambush one) with one road that comes out of the woods and proceeds through a clearing of just grass (just to have fun). The AI tanks and jeeps never ride on the road but just off to one side.
  14. Anyone notice that you cant select the ground conditions in quick battle? You can select the weather in general but not the ground state. Rain seems to make the ground just wet and not muddy. Snow is always snow and not light or heavy. Am I doing something wrong?
  15. I think this is because the tank "Graphic" on the screen is just an abstraction of the real tank. If they didnt do it this way, the computer would have to keep track of every pixel of every vehicle to make sure it didnt touch any other pixel in the game and that would grind our computers down to a crawl with math calculations.
  16. I noticed that when doing "Quick Battles" you dont get the option of certain ground conditions. While you can select general weather (rain, snow, ect..), you cant select if it is light snow, snow, or deep snow like you can as if you were building a map. When I have rain selected, it is always wet instead of mud. Snow seems to be always just snow and never light or deep. Why is this?
  17. Yes, I have seen this too. I have had units that I know killed a few guys but never got credit even at the end of the battle.
  18. Thanks Buckeye...makes sense. Your not from Ohio R U??? Oh... I see the profile........sorry about that (hehe). Cedar Point is cool. [This message has been edited by Lanzfeld (edited 06-29-2000).]
  19. What is this? I cant find it in the manual.
  20. Hi BTS, GREAT GAME!!!! I just have a quick question about the patch. I noticed that the patched WAV file is number 00002080. This is a german yelling "Yaaa"!!! That is fine. When I played the same file in the game before the patch it sounded the same. What is different about this patched sound. I did notice the file was bigger but it sounded the same. Not real important.....just a little curious. Thanks
  21. I like to attack but I always run into a problem. My boys get a little carried away and end up out-advancing their support. I move up those MG's, Mortars, and Flamethrowers but they are too slow. I have to learn to advance less quickly. I over Blitz!!!!!!
  22. I remember from reading the Alpha Battla AAR that when Fionn lost his panther it was to a 1000lb bomb (around turn 20 or so). The manual says only 500lb bombs are used? Did you take the 1000lb bombs out of the game for a reason? Also.....what is the "computer experience bonus"?
