1. Sounds to me like you are only really complaining about the Operation system.. in that you are not alone, however to flame the entire game for that one flaw is ludicrous. Do like I do, stay away from Operations, at least until the next engine.. they take too damned long to play anyway Bil
 2. Here is a nother terrific Russian map site: Soviet Maps Bil
 3. In my experience tanks in CMBB tend to bog more when rushed.. IOW, when given fast orders cross country. When going at a slower pace my armor rarely gets bogged. Where I have a problem is with the Shoot and Scoot command, where the initial move is Fast... I have had tanks bog down when using that command, that would not have if the speed had been Move on the first leg of the command. Bil
 4. Nice to have one in the family, eh? [ December 24, 2002, 12:08 PM: Message edited by: Bil Hardenberger ]
 5. Henri, There are two types of covered arcs.. armor and general covered arcs. The hotkeys are C for the general arc, and V for the armor arc... The arc does two things, it tells the unit to only engage that type of unit (armor if V or anything if C) when it enters the arc... so it also works as the ambush command. Be careful though.. because there is no "Oh sh*t!" command when an enemy unit is outside this arc... you are SOL if this happens. So, basically you are right, a tank wil not fire at infantry if given an armor covered arc.. there is no specific Infnatry covered arc.. the other arc makes any unit type fair game. Did that help? Bil
 6. Michael, Here is a good link for Soviet maps.. sure they are 1:100,000 scale, still, some good detail can be made out Soviet maps Bil
 7. As the person who has probably played Fionn Kelly more than any other player, I will say that yes, Fionn is crazy, nuts, and damned good. Never underestimate him. Bil "Fionnsbane" Hardenberger
 8. *chuckle* Thats sort of like a physicist saying, "...hey if I can understand Quantum theory so can you"
 9. Originally posted by Wreck: When I designed Der Berg it was to be a primer for mountain warfare tactics. For this to work I had to enforce some strict setup zones for the German player. My attempt atmaking the player act doctrinally. These were relaxed some by Treeburst when he adjusted the scenario for the ROW tournament. If these had been eliminated, the German player would easily win the scenario IMO. Bil
 10. Bump. Check it out if you haven't already. Bil [ April 15, 2002, 01:13 PM: Message edited by: Bil Hardenberger ]
 11. This is not really a new scenario. I designed it during CMBO's BETA testing days and am only now releasing it to the public. Why? Laziness Try it out, it has my favorite of all the maps I have created, a dramatic mountain complete with winding road. It is a real mountain warfare scenario. Not just a scenario with GBJ troops in it. You are encouraged to use German Mountain Warfare tactics (outlined in the German text). It is Called Der Berg and can be found here: Scenario Depot While you are there, go and review my other scenarios (The Sunken Lane and Fire & Maneuver), I know you have played them In fact, all feedback is encouraged. Enjoy. Bil
 12. Not an impossible feature, it is already in Steel Beasts
 13.
quote:
I am still waiting for purchases from Fionn for your game with him. He's taking a break from the tournament I guess.

I got an e-mail from Fionn today... he is getting ready to start school again, and will be away for a few weeks yet. He is still very much alive in the tournament, as he assures me he has plans for all that wine Bil
 14. Although I like to think I play historically as much as possible, my concern is with what this tournament is turning into, it has lost something. I will be damned if I would report somebody for using the above listed tactics, that sounds a bit whiney to me. Not the way I would want to win, or lose So I too must withdraw. Thanks for the invite, and good luck to those that stick it out. Bil
 15. It's easy to throw stones when the other party can't respond Maximus and Shandorf. I, for one, am getting tired of all the Fionn bashing that goes on in this forum. One of the reasons I come here less and less is because of the sophmoric behaviour as evidenced in this thread. No, I prefer the Beta Tester's forum where things are more civilized. You guys need to go out and get layed... IOW get a life. Bil
 16. Even if you aim them, these weapons are far from precision guided munitions. Expect them to miss a lot, it happened IRL, and it happens in CM, there are a lot of factors that go into this... wind, nervousness (staring down a 20-30 ton tank isn't work for the weak hearted), moving vehicles, smoke/haze, etc. Make up for it by having multiple Bazooka/Shreck teams in the ambush.. it will up your chance to hit. Bil
 17.
quote:
That person is Abbott. He has not responded to the invite as of now

Don't give up on Abbott... he contacted me last week saying we would have to put our game on hold as he has gotten called away for work for a couple of weeks. Bil P.S. I vote the participants dictate their own rules to play by, if any.
 18.
quote:
i.e., doing away with tanks, and replacing them with light armored vehicles, the unfounded belief that airpower alone can win a war, etc.

I don't think was ever the plan.. there will always be a Heavy Corps to respond to a large drawn out affair, like Kuwait. But the Army has decided that with today's environment what they need is an air-deployable ready force, so you will see several Light (deployable in a few days time) Armor Brigades begin to form (i.e. replace some of the heavy units) over the next several years. Even this is a stop gap measure until the Army's planned Transformation (conversion to a Future (as yet undetermined)AFV. This is scheduled to begin deployment in 2008, (overly optimistic for a vehicle that hasn't even been designed yet, let alone tested, and as far I know, the specs haven't even been determined) and deployment may not be completed until 2040, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Bil P.S. The above dates may be off by a year or so, it's been a while since I read about this stuff and my memory is not what it was! [ 06-13-2001: Message edited by: Bil Hardenberger ]
 19.
quote:
We'll include French, Poles, Canadiana, British and the good old GI.

What about the Germans Bill? won't be much of a scenario without them! Unless you plan on having the Americans and British meeting for tea somewhere behind the lines... BTW, it's good to see you are still around and thinking CM. Bil
 20. Thanks for pointing that out Major. Great reading. Bil
 21. Hehe.. this thread brings back some memories... as a kid in the 70's my Dad was stationed at Kreuzberg Kaserne (near Zweibruecken); every once in a while our school would get evacuated when a farmer unearthed an unexploded bomb... the older kids used to go spelunking in the old bunkers (Siegfried Line), and more often than not they would come back up with something that would have to be wrestled from them and disposed of. ahhh... the memories. Bil
 22.
quote:
I would suggest that given the "must buy gun transports" rule, we do not need the gun-limits rule. And in fact that rule is at least sometimes gameable. I also don't see the rationale for the rule forbidding jeeps or kubels as the transport. Big guns require more, little guns less. That's fine with me.

I have to agree with Wreck here. The CA selection will automatically limit the number of guns you can buy, and with transport a necessity for them, then their cost goes up, which is good. I also think that if a vehicle was able to transport the weapon historically, then that vehicle should be allowed to substitute for a truck/halftrack. However, how many people know what vehicle could tow what gun? Perhaps a list, by someone who has the time to research it, would come in handy. Good points Wreck. Bil P.S. I really like the CAL concept, thanks for bringing it to us TH.
 23. Berli said:
quote:
100 - 0??? 100 - 0!!! Back in the days of the beta demo, someone did that against the AI, but against a human opponent! Jesus H Christ, Hiram you suck worse than the team you love so well!

I just have to correct one little inaccuracy in this statement. That game was won by myself, and it was against a human opponent (Bill Carey). The AAR is on CMHQ for all to read. I apologize for intruding in your little thread, won't happen again Oh, one more thing, congratulations Elvis, well done! Bil
 24. IronDuke, Don't stop the tournaments, that would be sad... how about making it a TCP/IP only tourny... would be much quicker, and you could actually finish the entire thing in a month's time. Just a thought. BTW, don't you owe me a file? Bil
