As per the the very first entry in the Tournament instructions:
QuoteBefore joining the tournament, please take a moment
and carefully read these instructions that are specific
to all Combat Mission Tournaments!!!
- Because of the way that Combat Mission’s original “play by email” system works, both game
files have an in-game field for password protection of the file. This field should be left blank. For the
Axis side the password has been selected before the battles were sent and that field is to be
left blank. You can use a password for the Russian side but it isn’t needed because the Tournament
feature handles protection from cheating without using the in game system. So, what you are seeing for the Red turn, at least regarding the password, is working as it should. What happens when you leave the password space blank and finish it? If you haven't tried that then that is all that you need to do.
You can always reach me directly either through the Help Desk (https://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/) or at john@battlefront.com
The other battle seems fine. I got the first blood that I have gotten in any of the 3 Tournaments in my last turn.

Hello, I am playing on Grand Tournament against the mighty @BFCElvis and there is a bug I experience. First thing is I never get to play soviets and I think he can confirm it and I do have 2 us turns which one of them cant be playable either doesnt says invalid password or crashes to desktop.
Welcome to the forum!!! I've been trying to log into the Matrix forum to see if I could contact you. Thank you for beating me to it!
As I type, all battle turns are with you. When you go to the In Progress list:
You should see 2 battles for the Tournament. Do you see 2 or only 1?

Also and Im a bit fuzzy on this, @BFCElvis help me out here, this also means these tourneys do not support save a turn and finish later. So save games generated either from quitting (auto saves described above) or player created saves wont get sent. I vaguely remember hearing this in the past. I just so rarely see this as once I load a battle I play it without quitting or saving it.
This is correct. No files will ever be stored locally on your computer and work.

Like Artkin, I do NOT stay connected to the slitherine server and have to constantly re-log in. I sometimes lose orders and must replay turns, having been logged out while issuing orders.
Is there a setting anywhere that would impact this ? Even on the web site, I am logged out of their forum constantly. maybe a browser setting in win 11?
my network is a Comcast business gig plus business line and the monitoring software says that it is Gucci.
I'm asking their people about this. I am like Ian. Once I log in I remain logged in unless I close the game. I am also on Comcast, not the Gucci version though. Hopefully they can provide insight into whether it is somefink with the end user's system or somefink they can adjust.
Quotethis is a potential issue as I have been issued warnings in the past because downloading a turn more than once is not allowed.
This should not be possible. Especially because, as I understand it, you never download anything. The file never resides locally. It stays on their server and is loaded into the game from there.

The Tournament has begun.
Matrix did somefink neat for each game in the Grand Tournament. Red Thunder got a Hapless video. Cold War got a Twitch video. And Normandy got this cool write-up:

This is fun thing that Matrix did. For Red Thunder they asked Hapless to make a video. For Cold War there is a Twitch video.
It's almost 2 hours long. I laughed out loud at around the 49 minute mark.

I've never used the PBEM system before and I can't seem to start the first turn.
- I see '[Grand Tournament] CMCW Round 1 (Turn 0)'
- I click Continue
- I see New Password (looks like I'm playing the Soviets)
- Per instructions I leave the field blank and click ok
- I see the Save Email Game box, File Name: Valley of Ashes 002
- I click Ok
- I'm back at the main menu and logged out of my Slitherine account
That is correct. As explained in the original post.
Although your Slitherine account on their website has nothing to do with it. It's all done within the game.

That, again, looks like missing or extra brz files. Here is how you get to your Data folder with Steam (even tough it is CMFI the principle is the same) . If you send a screenshot of the contents of the Data folder I can tell you what's wrong.

Just to clarify, I'm locked out of the tournament?
H
Do you have a Windows installation of the game anywhere? If you don't have a Windows installation you won't be able to process turns. The PBEM++ system that is used for Tournaments is ONLY available on Windows. Even if you had a flawless installation of Mac with the v1.07 patch you would not have the ability to play in the Tournament.
Some Mac users are able to make Windows installations. I'm not a Mac guy, so I don't know how to tell you how. @Buzz does it. Other Mac users may be able to give you guidance too.

Gotta be on 1.07 to get the PBEM++ system. And or grab your Steam key and have 2 different installs of the game.
No. Ever since Cold War was released on Steam it has had PBEM++. The difference with the v1.07 is that it now has the new Tournament scoring. He is a Mac player. That's why he doesn't have it.

In preparation for the tournament, I watched a video, as one does.
The 'saved games & PBEM options' are different from what the YouTuber was showing. This is what I have on CW v1.06
Do I get turns in email or how will this work with the functionality I have? Upgrading to 1.07 isn't an option due to the unit renaming bug.
Thanks.
H
Even if had v1.07 it wouldn't work for you. PBEM++ and the Tournaments are only for Windows players.

During the Grand Tournament @Hapless will be making videos for each battle in each Tournament. Here is the first to appear on the Matrix forum:
He will be giving detailed descriptions of the battles, along with helpful hints on how you might want to play it.

When I press "alt + I" for Icons, I get my own laptop's "Settings" page! and no icons! When I press "alt + T" for trees, I get my laptop's 'wallpaper photo'! Dear Sir or adam, is this a glitsch in the game, and can I get rid of it? Please
Put the attached text file in the Data folder. This will ensure that you have the default hot key file. Your issue may be as simple as that.

Could someone be kind enough to remind me of where we extract the patch to??
Tia,
21 minutes ago, kohlenklau said:Don't do anything until somebody seconds my suggestion.
1. I download the rar to my normal downloads folder.
2. I right click on it there and extract it THERE also. THIS EXTRACT?
3. I then click on that .exe and it opens the window where I agree to the user agreement and it has a default TARGET where my game is.
4. I can then delete all the stuff in downloads after it is all working ok.
Exactly right.

So I´ve compared the BFC version with the Steam one and there is no difference in that.
However you do have only a point target available in nighttime, while in daytime you have both options: area and point target.
In CMBS and CMFI you do have both target options available in nighttime, so I doubt that this would be a feature of some sort.
@BFCElvis Do you have anything to say about why that is or maybe set it on the buglist of BFC ?
I have been trying to confirm what Sgt Joch has said. That it is intentional.

Thank you @user1000, that got rid of the warning and, I assume, the problem!
I would have thought that the patch .exe file would have taken care of that, oh well.
Cheers!
When we see missing brz files it is almost always because an anti-virus program blocked the installation or removed the file with a false positive.

In my opinion the gun doesn't look any bigger...
@BFCElvis Hi! ist there was missing?
I'll have to double check. We have bug tracking software. When preparing a new readme file I look through that and gather up everything marked as "Resolved" to put on my list. That was one of those.

I'd like to sign up for these but last one I tried in sf2 (I'm currently playing it offline) my turns wouldnt send. If this happens again may I be provided with an alternative solution?
Yes, the alternate solution is to let me know. I have found that Slitherine can access the last turns sent and resend manually. So, I can contact them and see about getting the files through.
They are committed to doing whatever they can do to make sure that these tournaments work and are happy to help.

You shouldn't need a license code for a free patch, just for DLCs that are paid.

Is there any way that for these tournaments that players are given their opponent's contact e-mail? At the very least can BFC compile an e-mail contact list for all tournament participants so in the circumstance where an opponent is totally silent and MIA, that we can at least contact you guys to either get their e-mail, or for you to give them a nudge or something?
Because in previous tournaments it just seems to me that there are way too many participants who never bother to show up which then screws with actual players tournament scoring and their enjoyment.
Big no no giving out that kind of personal information. I wouldn't do it with the information that Battlefront has and neither would Slitherine.

Maybe make the tournaments with 4 battles, the first battle can be something like moving a tank to a victory condition for 1-2 turns. Players that signed up but does not finish the pre-battle are booted from the tournament and hopefully we have less no show ups for the real battles... maybe stupid idea!!
That isn't as crazy of an idea as you make it sound.
All of their tournaments have no shows. But CM seems to have a higher percentage than the others. And I don't understand why that would be.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've been in Philly for the Eagles/Vikings game (Go Birds)
Two things......
You have to be in their forum to send a direct message.
Also, from what I understand, you have to have posted a certain number of times on their forum before you can send a direct message. I'll see if I can find put how many times that is tomorrow.

I am getting both battles for CMBN and only 1 for the other 2 so far. I think that the CMCW is because my opponent didn't read the "please read" instructions.
