  1. With the release of Combat Mission Red Thunder on Steam comes the introduction of the PBEM++ system and Tournament feature to CMRT.

In addition to these features we've been able to take care of a few bugs.

Plus, some of the scenario and campaign designers can't help themselves and have tinkered with some scenarios and campaigns. These new versions are in the patch too. The new versions will override the previous versions. If you want to keep the originals then move them out of the Scenario and Campaign folders before installing the patch because the patch will overwrite what you have. Here's the list:

    Scenarios:

    BP1 Polosa Deistviya

BP1 Lesson 2 SPW Tactical Reconnaissance

BP1 Heart Of The Dying Sun

    BP1 Bridgehead at Rakow

    Campaigns

    BP1 Tigers at Ogledow

FR Night at the Opera Soviet

FR Night at the Opera Axis

    FR The Battle of Tukums

Here are the changes in the patch:

    * FIXED: 3D modeling has fixed turret issues with Pz IIIG
    * FIXED: MP-507 no longer fires full auto, now it’s only be able to fire semi-auto
    * FIXED: Panther Ausf D model had the hatch open in the opposite direction, and some of the spare tracks are textureless.

So I just spent $116 on Strike Force 2 with the full bundle and the thing wont run ! All I get is that stupid spinny blue wheel and then nuthin...nada...zilch.

I have just about every game that Battlefront has in its catalog and they all work fine. I spent an entire afternoon working on this with ZERO progress. From what I have read there is little use in submitting a ticket as they dont bother to respond to folks having the same issue.

Ive been a loyal fan and customer a long time, this is very distressing.

    any help would be appreciated.

Have you been able to get you game up and running?

  3. Important: The key that is used to get you Steam key is your CMRT key.

    Hi guys,

We’re very pleased to be working with Battlefront and know many of you are eagerly anticipating the release of Combat Mission. We wanted to give you some details on how things will work and both teams will do their best to make this process as painless as possible for you all to get your games working on Steam.

    ·        Steam keys will be available to anybody who purchased the game, no matter where they purchased. All users will get steam keys by creating an account with Matrix/Slitherine to redeem a steam key. The reason for this is Matrix already have a process to distribute the keys and Battlefront didn’t and it would have been a lot of work for them to create such as system so it felt simpler to use a system that already works. Sorry for the inconvenience of anyone who needs to create an account because of this.
    ·        Once you have an account you can redeem Steam keys in the normal way by following these instructions - https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=93585
Important: A "Serial" and an "Activation Key" are different expressions for the same thing.
    ·        Note that if you bought a bundle from Battlefront you will only have one serial for all the games in the bundle. To redeem all the pieces of your bundle as Steam keys you will need to register that serial for each part of the bundle. E.g. if you purchased the base game and Commonwealth bundle you would register that serial twice, once to the base game and once to the DLC. Each will generate a unique Steam key for that piece of content on Steam and must be redeemed on Steam separately.
    ·        When purchasing a bundle on Matrix/Slitherine you will receive a serial for each part separately.
    ·        The versions on Matrix, Battlefront and Steam are identical apart from some minor changes to make the game compatible with Steam. Steam requires all the game content to be in the install folder so the placement of some files will be different to the Battlefront version but this is all behind the scenes and the features are identical. Multiplayer is possible between versions.
    ·        Customers who buy from Matrix/Slitherine will have access to the Matrix installer and a Steam key. Customers who buy from Battlefront will have access to the Battlefront version and Steam key. Matrix/Slitherine customers will not have access to the Battlefront version and vice versa.
    ·        Any Steam key redemption issues should be reported to the Matrix forum, as Battlefront are not able to help with that.
    ·        Other tech support should be requested at your point of purchase but both companies will try and help out anyone who has an issue if they can. Obviously any order issues can only be investigated by the site you purchased from as neither company has access to that kind of info for the other.
    ·        If you have any questions or problems please let us know and we will do our best to help.

Roger that. My old *** got mugged by a pack of mangy uncons. I’m sure you are seeing what I am trying to do with my Americans ?  Not sure that worked.

I am really quite bad at commanding uncons. They have no skills, no marksmanship, low ammo and really nothing but big brass balls.  Yours OTOH, did quite well in CQB so I just learned a nuanced lesson with them.

I still predict a lot of death before this is over.  It is my sincere desire to now kill everyone in this town.

I also see that the leaderboard correctly moved our running score. You took out 1 man in each of the battles on my most recent exchange and I see that you got 6 points and I got 2.

I was pretty happy that I had a uncon plan that worked. I got enough men able to provide covering fire while I moved in close and took out a couple of your teams. It felt nice getting in close and not taking any returning fire while I wiped them out.

Your moves as Blue are a mystery to me because I can barely see anyone. I know you took out one of my teams but other than that I don't have a hard spot on anyone.

Just bought this using Steam.  Running a new AMD Ryzen laptop in Windows 11.  Game starts fine and get into the game mode and everything is blacked out except the units.  Most of the menu bat at the bottom is also blacked out.  I've heard this is a driver issue but may be wrong.

IT may be the AMD driver and it may be that your anti-virus software blocked some of the installation. Check out this thread for the AMD driver. If that doesn't help, open a Help Desk ticket and include, if you can, a screenshot of the contents of the game's Data folder.

Thanks for screwing up my weekend Battlefront and basically stealing 116 bucks of my money,

Battlefront may not have screwed up your weekend. Somefink else on your system may have. It's always best to reach out to tech support rather than flounder taking guesses. But that is just one persons opinion.

I have no tickets that have not been replied to. I reply 365 days a year. I work on the Help Desk on Christmas, Thanksgiving, on the golf course, Saturdays, Sundays, if I am awake and near my phone (I got a dead sexy Samsung Galaxy Z Fold) or my computer then I am on duty. So that accusation is very unfair.

There is too little information in this ticket to help much. If you open a ticket, we'll be happy to help. If not, the link that @Brille posted sounds like it may be what you're looking for.

If it isn't too much trouble, can someone post the briefing for the US side of Round 2? I have not gotten that file from my opponent and it would be nice to know what I am facing (given the nature of the tournament).

I tried to copy/paste it but apparently I can't do that with the text in the game. I suppose that I can make a screenshot but the best thing is to open the scenario in CMSF2. It is one that shipped with the game. Ambush in al Fubar. That will give you more information than just the text would anyway.

we are at war elvis.  back to you.

this is an ugly start position for team america.  no worries though, imo, the US strategy here reminds me of the old internet quiz  'how many 5 year olds could you take in a fight' .  How many 5 year olds could you take in a fight? - Quiz | Quotev

i think if you stay on your feet, you could probably defeat several hundred.  so that will be my plan here.  don't get swarmed and overmatch whomever we locate.

You already got points. I haven't even seen a movie yet or heard a shot fired. That's how much I suck.

Can anyone recommend a decent laptop that will play CMBN and is less than $500?

The only thing that I would really recommend is making sure to get a dedicated video card. Either nVidia or AMD. The Intel integrated card isn't what you want to run the game on.

Ugh.  I think that is what happened to my second game against Cristi21.  We both agreed to call a ceasefire; he sent me the final file at 0715 UTC; unfortunately, I did not open it until this morning (around 1:30 UTC - five hours after the cutoff).  The result is we each had around 25 points for the second match rather than the 1300/600 points he and I had for it.

If you didn't complete the ceasefire before the time had run out you will have whatever the running score was at the time the clock stopped.

As a new player when did Combat Mission Vets here first dip their toes in PBEM?

The Fall of 1999. I'm not sure how much of CM history you know but, in the Fall of '99 Battlefront released a public beta demo for CM Beyond Overlord with the original CM1 game engine. The game itself didn't come out until June 2000. Between the Fall of '99 and then all we had to play were, initially, 2 scenarios, with a 3rd added around Christmas. The PBEM feature was included in the demo and many of us old timers played countless PBEM games in those months. Countless. And using only 3 scenarios. That is where I truly learned to suck at Combat Mission. I've continued that sucking through today.

Start playing PBEM today. Don't worry about winning or losing. You'll have a lot of fun and learn what to do and not do in the game more quickly playing against a human.

Well I did that but It says wrong password. 1 st battle I have played as US and now I will be as Syria ...

The way tournament scenarios have to be set up, the Blue password is always filled in as blank before any player touches a file. But, when playing the Red side if the player enters somefink in the password field then it will have a password that isn't blank. In other words, before the file was sent to MrSpkr you entered a password. Try to think of what you may have entered. Otherwise, the battle is dead in the water and there isn't anything that can be done. This round ends in a couple of days anyway.......so there isn't much time to have played it.

Regardless of how that plays out, welcome to our forum! It has been hard for us when there are people we want to reach out to to see if there is a problem but they aren't on our forum (or they are but under a different name).

Which just gave me an idea...........Who here regularly posts on the Matrix forum? You have to have posted a certain number of times on their forum before you can send a PM. My account has all sorts of issues and has prevented me from posting there.....let alone sending PMs. But maybe someone here that posts there frequently can be a our "go to" person when we see players unresponsive.

A question about scoring (and I apologize if it has been asked - I read through this thread and the CMCW tourney thread and didn’t quite see this question answered). I know that, if I send a setup as the US side and never get a turn back, I get 1,000 points as a consolation prize.  But what about situations in which both sides have set up, but the opposing player never sends a file after the set up phase? Technically, he returned one file, so I am guessing the 1,000 points is no longer on the table; does that mean each player just gets zero points for that battle?

I believe that once each player has sent a file for a battle that the 1,000 points is off the table. We'll find out soon enough.

    Quote

Or does the game automatically figure up the point spread when the tournament time runs out (which sort of screws the attacker because the defender will, at the very least, get points for holding each of the three geographic objectives)?

No, this won't happen. The only time the in game score is ever used if when a battle is completed and the final score is pushed to Slitherine. If a battle isn't completed then the running score is what will become the final score. At least that's what I have been told and saw when testing.........But we'll see on May 26th.

Ahhh, you believe I would have read to page 30…. 😉

It wouldn't have helped if you had. You brought to my attention that the wrong manual is with the Steam CMBN installation. It doesn't have the PBEM++ information in it. I grab what I posted from the manual that installs with Cold War.
