Pity as it is super crucial information that if not communicated will affect the enjoyment of the customers playing the tournament.

Without that information some players might not feel like it is worth continuing.

FOG2 uses tournaments to drive up player engagement and they seem to have a gold standard of how they clearly communicate the scoring and way the tournament works.

Anyway all I can do is flag the issue.

    Cheers

I've been working them all morning. They haven't said "no" yet. 🙂

Am I correct to get a 2000 or 2050 in the CMCW games  one has to have a forefit?  So, the top guy here is numero uno because his opponent quit both games?

Correct. They would have to have surrendered both battles.

Great a reminder e-mail on Monday would be very useful and could really help folk especially if it clearly lays out why doing a Cease Fire will help both players.

BTW - I got the other e-mail and yes some folk won't get it or even act on it but the 80/20 rule applies and even in worse case 20% of those getting the e-mail will be in a better position or it could be 80%.

    So worth doing please...

    Cheers

I will ask but I think that it is unlikely. Slitherine is very sensitive about appearing to spam their customer base. When discussions were done with the nudge email they agreed to one nudge email per round.

I was just getting ready to post a new thread for Israel when I saw you beat me to it. :)

This stuff needs to be discussed. This is history in the making and as far as CM goes, it is very relevant.

When the Ukraine version of this started up we had a very short leash that we used to keep the thread on track. Handing out vacations at the slightest infraction to try to accomplish that.

If you guys are willing, I am willing to do somefink similar with this. But instead of vacations I'll just lock it up as soon as I see the first Nazi comment, or any of that type of stuff.

I am not sure Elvis can do anything about players not undertaking turns. I think it would need coding and I bet that has not been done.

No. There is nothing that we can do. There have been TONS of conversations about this with Slitherine and, for the most part, all of their tournaments experience it. So more than others. The Field of Glory 2 leaderboards look like our but the Panzer Corps 2 and Valor & Victory boards don't.

    Quote

With FOG2 the system assess who has not sent turns in a timely manner and awards points to the player that has. For those not aware of how FOG2 handles it here is the standard text for every tourney.

While this is not perfect as folk in the wrong time zone can have more time clocked against them it does at least keep those who send turns back quickly in with a chance of getting into the top group of players. I would hope that Battlefront would do something similar if at all possible?

As for the Slitherine message system it does work but only if the oppo has it set up to forward e-mails to them or they bother to check the forum system. As many folk don't even know there is a forum message system this is why it does not work.

Look on the top right of the Slitherine Forum page to see notifications and messages. As the person playing has set up a Slitherine user name you can try and contact them that way.

I'll check with Slitherine but this does look like somefink that may be possible. The "timer" for how long a player has had a file is somefink that their server would know.

Giving emails are a definite no-no. Having players opt in to have their emails given is unlikely too.

On October 11th all players were sent a "nudge" email. It was sent to everyone. How many of you saw it? Mine ended up in my Gmail "Promotions" section, which might as well be the spam folder. I didn't see it until I dug deep for it. That is one path we're trying to jog some people loose.

Adding both the scoring/ceasefire information and needing to make sure that you use the correct email address when logging into the server through CM will future instructions.

I have no intrest in scanning though these forums to find quotes that are years old...This one may not be the best one but it is one that is somewhat to the point and fairly recent...

Ah. You're referring to somefink different than I thought you were. I thought you were referring to things like release dates. Battlefront, since way before I was an employee, has always been a "it will be released when it's finished" company. Bristling at giving release estimates. Even more so now that Slitherine's marketing department does so much with Steam. A good example is the CMFI release on Steam recently. Unlike other releases they wanted to announce it's Steam release live during their big annual wargaming stream. So, even though I knew the exact date for that, they wanted to make the announcement.

Do we interact about the nuts and bolts more than most other game makers? I don't know. I'd defer to Steve's quote above on that because my experience is kinda limited to just Battlefront. So, I have no point of comparison. There has never been another game, for me, that I cared enough about to follow the developers and notice what kind of interaction they have. You, and probably everyone who sees this post, likely have far more experience with that kind of thing than me. My sample size is : 1.

Sorry to be that guy, again but...

When is the engine update coming? Can we have an update or have I missed word on this?
I would really love to be able to enjoy the 3 CM titles that I own but they just do not play on modern hardware as discussed in depth in previous posts and DMs with the devs trying to work out why it doesn't (so let's not climb down that rabbit hole again lol).

I bought CW, love it but cant play larger scenarios due to it completely grinding to a halt at deployment phase.
I then bought SF2 and BS hoping that with them having been around longer they may have been optimized slightly better but the same issues are apparent, I mean come on it's no secret that the games do not perform anywhere near as well as they could/should right? So again, rabbit hole. bad. no. 😄

I just really wanna be able to enjoy all that I have paid for *stamps feet* and am really hoping it can come this side of Christmas please? *smile and fluttering eye lashes*

    Thanks

I couldn't find any Help Desk tickets by searching your email address or name. I also didn't find any DMs in the past couple of years. You may want to open a ticket. I may be able to help.

Yes, sadly, not rationality is there strong point.

I think this is generally correct. My two big questions, was this primarily driven by internal factors in the Gaza strip? Or was it inspired/driven by Iran? Hamas and Iran both have significant reasons to be unhappy about a Saudi/Israeli peace deal among other things. And Iran would certainly like a distraction from the fact that yesterday's Peace Prize winner is in Iran's least pleasant prison.

You are generally correct, and I suspect the Israelis are going to reoccupy most or all of the Gaza Strip at least temporarily. On the other hand We have done a tenth of what we should have on things like 155 production, and the Israelis are about to shoot a non trivial amount of it. This will not make supplying Ukraine any easier.

SO the big question now is does it stop with the Gaza Strip? Or does Southern Lebanon light off next? Russia and Iran probably didn't plan this, that doesn't mean they won't try to pour gasoline on it. There is a non trivial possibility this thing spreads to the pre existing Syrian mess. Israel invading Syria from the south, at the same moment the Turks invade from the North? Likely, no, a lot more likely than it was yesterday, very most definitely Among other things Iran might decide this is the moment to hold a nuclear test?

We need to keep to the topic of the Ukraine war and only discuss other events if they are tangibly related.  The only possible impact of the Hamas attack I can see is giving the US right wing another excuse to end support for Ukraine.  More of the "we can not walk and chew gum at the same time" nonsense they've been using since the start (i.e. we can't support Taiwan and Ukraine at the same time).

The other possible intersection with the Ukraine war is if Israel attacks Iran in a meaningful way.  This could create some difficulties in the Russian-Iranian supply chain.  However, Iran has already transferred production expertise to Russia so I don't think there's much to disrupt any more.

Not just you, Dan. But everyone. Yours is just the first post that I grabbed.

I wish I had seen this tournament before today. Are these announced somewhere I could monitor?

BTW, I just completed a PBEM of Valley of Ashes and it was one of my most enjoyable battles yet. A whole lotta dying occurred on both sides!

Both Battlefront and Matrix announce them on our forums about 2 weeks before the tournaments start. They are also announced on Steam.

@BFCElvisIn FOG2 Tourneys you are on a chess clock and if the game is not completed you get penalised if you don't do turns fast enough. Is that happening in this tourney?

There are point allowances for "no shows" but not is a battle has been played. It will end with whatever current score that you see on the leaderboard, unless you're able to find a way to ceasefire.

Wrong direction, see if the menu disappears when you zoom in more.

But yeah, in any case it seems to be a browser setting issue.

Zooming works fine for me too.

    ZI.png

And you're correct. It is a browser issue and not somefink we have any control over on the back end part of our website.

  12. 1 hour ago, IanL said:

It is and that would qualify as "not good". At first I though you missed the hamburger menu button that appears once you zoom in but the top level links are not in that menu page. So, you are correct they just go away. @BFCElvis @Battlefront.com this seems like a bug in the web page responsiveness design.

It may be a browser thing. It certainly isn't anything that we can control.

I use Chrome and, like @Vacillator, I still see everything and the link to the forum works. I wouldn't call it "end user error" @Rob2020 but it does seem to vary depending on someone's computer.

Crashing video. I do play on every tournament, cold war, red thunder and normandy and this is the only turn I have problem with.

    Ok. Thanks.

The only thing I would suggest is that if you have any mods remove them from the Data folder.

Other than that we may be beat for the 2nd game. I messed up yesterday after playing my first turn in our battle. I went to the Matrix site after processing the file to look at the leaderboard. I accidently quit the Tournament. I let them know and it looks like they got me back in but it may have fouled our battle. I'm going to ask if there is any way to "refresh" your other file. If there isn't, I will throw the battle in some way that you can get the most points. If my screw up messed up your first round you shouldn't be penalized.
