  1. No. The saved games folder for the Steam version is in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Combat Mission Cold War\Game Files\Saved Games So, it's a little deeper in your system than the Battlefront version.
  2. I'll ask how possible copy/paste is (UI is a squirrely place). They wanted the password field to display ***********s, not the characters being entered. Also, there was period yesterday that the servers were down. If your password had been "cat" you would have gotten that message.
  3. When you install the game on Steam the updated manual is available. Look at page 30.
  4. There will be a Battlefront patch soon. A small adjustment needs to be made to the code. Nothing that affects gameplay but it will need to happen before the patch comes out. We didn't want to delay the scheduled Steam date for it. It wouldn't take long. Also, every scenario and every campaign battle have had some new love given to them since the original release. Some it may have been correcting spelling in a briefing. Some had bigger playability changes. But every single battle has had some alteration. All of them. The Battlefront patch will include these. The Steam version already has them. https://community.battlefront.com/topic/140381-102-patch-notes/?do=findComment&comment=1891356
  5. None. And Windows 11 has been out for a while now and Cold War since April. But I've gotten zero Windows 11 Help Desk tickets. You'd think if the game wasn't compatible I'd have gotten a lot and across all game titles. I'll look into though. Starting with the beta testers.

  7. Yeah, we need to adjust something with how the game talks to the servers for PBEM++. It's nothing that a player will notice today or when the next build is sent. That's why we still went ahead and released on Steam today as scheduled.
  8. I'd love to help but I don't know what Reshade is. And I didn't have to change my compatibility settings for Cold War on Steam.....Heck, I don't have to change my compatibility settings for Combat Mission anywhere.
  9. You are correct. It doesn't appear that the server was wiped as we'd been told. mhardist* is from Slitherine. I don't know who Shards4 is. The other ones were from YouTubers that got advanced copies. It's been fun watching Challenges appear on the list and disappear as people grab them to play. It is still early in the release but something that some of us had discussed was how long the list of available Challenges may get. My guess was that it wouldn't be a super long list. That Challenges would come off the list at about the same rate as they are put up. We'll see.
  10. Yes. We'd thought that there was going to be a Battlefront patch that would be out now. But there is an under the hood thing that needs to be done with the Steam build that is requiring new builds for all 4 versions (Steam, Matrix, BFC - Mac and BFC - Windows). This will happen very quickly.
  11. Here are the instructions from Matrix/Slitherine on how to get your Steam key: We’re very pleased to be working with Battlefront and know many of you are eagerly anticipating the release of Combat Mission. We wanted to give you some details on how things will work and both teams will do their best to make this process as painless as possible for you all to get your games working on Steam. · Steam keys will be available to anybody who purchased the game, no matter where they purchased. All users will get steam keys by creating an account with Matrix/Slitherine to redeem a steam key. The reason for this is Matrix already have a process to distribute the keys and Battlefront didn’t and it would have been a lot of work for them to create such as system so it felt simpler to use a system that already works. Sorry for the inconvenience of anyone who needs to create an account because of this. · Once you have an account you can redeem Steam keys in the normal way by following these instructions - https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=93585 Important: A "Serial" and an "Activation Key" are different expressions for the same thing. · Note that if you bought a bundle from Battlefront you will only have one serial for all the games in the bundle. To redeem all the pieces of your bundle as Steam keys you will need to register that serial for each part of the bundle. E.g. if you purchased the base game and British Forces bundle you would register that serial twice, once to the base game and once to the DLC. Each will generate a unique Steam key for that piece of content on Steam and must be redeemed on Steam separately. · When purchasing a bundle on Matrix/Slitherine you will receive a serial for each part separately. · The versions on Matrix, Battlefront and Steam are identical apart from some minor changes to make the game compatible with Steam. Steam requires all the game content to be in the install folder so the placement of some files will be different to the Battlefront version but this is all behind the scenes and the features are identical. Multiplayer is possible between versions. · Customers who buy from Matrix/Slitherine will have access to the Matrix installer and a Steam key. Customers who buy from Battlefront will have access to the Battlefront version and Steam key. Matrix/Slitherine customers will not have access to the Battlefront version and vice versa. · Any Steam key redemption issues should be reported to the Matrix forum, as Battlefront are not able to help with that. · Other tech support should be requested at your point of purchase but both companies will try and help out anyone who has an issue if they can. Obviously any order issues can only be investigated by the site you purchased from as neither company has access to that kind of info for the other. · If you have any questions or problems please let us know and we will do our best to help.
  12. There will be a patch that will give it to the Battlefront version as well. The patch will probably not be out before the Steam release. However, games that begin with the Steam version can be continued on the Battlefront version.
  13. Yes and no. You will still be able to continue them when the Steam version and patch are released but you will not be able to using existing battles in the PBEM++ system.
  14. It's funny. I got the email notification yesterday afternoon about this battle and ignored it. I did do my turn before making this post now that I know who grabbed the battle. A couple of things about the video. He does a good job of showing everything even if he's a little off about a couple of items. And he showed an important part of it without realizing that he had. As you saw, setting up a PBEM++ (the actual official wording is PBEM3++......we've gone with PBEM++ in game and in the manual. Apparently there is/was PBEM1++ and PBEM2++) battle is as simple as setting up any other kind of battle. The one thing he didn't go into was password protecting the PBEM++ battle. When you set up a battle if you leave the password blank then anyone can grab the Challenge. If you want to play against someone specific you should put a password in that field and let your opponent know what it is. The Challenge screen, if there is an * in a Challenge's name then it is password protected. You can also tell a game is password protected if it displays a password field when selected. The * saves you going through each Challenge trying to find one that is a free for all. What he wasn't sure of is where the file will appear when it's your turn. It will appear in the In Progress section. And, this is what he saw but didn't point out, if it's not your turn the Continue button will be grayed out. Once it's your turn to play the Continue button will be lit. The first selection in the dropdown menu is Saved Games and Incoming Email. That is where you will find.....well....saved games. It is also where you'll find the email files if you are using the current non-PBEM++ email system. The last 2 are not used for anything. Removing them will happen at some point but doing that would have involved digging deep into the UI and doing that can sometimes break other things. So it was thought best to leave it for now. My final thought when looking at the video is that all games that are currently using the system will be wiped clean before Steam is up. His game against me will be gone. All of the Challenges listed there will be gone. I think that covers it. Also, Holien, I'm not insulted that he doesn't know who I am.....I don't know who he is either. But I enjoyed his delivery so I think I'm going to check out more of his videos. It looks like Usually Hapless has his Steam copy.
  15. The first time I read Foundation there was a sense of awe when they encountered the first crisis. To skip over that is a waste of great story telling.
  16. I'm an hour into Dune and have enjoyed it more than any snippet of Foundation. It's such a disappointment for me. I LOVED the books. I don't mean to discourage anyone from watching Foundation. Chocolate and Vanilla. You may love it. I don't.
  17. It would be interesting. Maybe the solution is to start your own thread and link here to new posts as they come out. Or, write up your AAR and post it here at the conclusion of MMM's posts. That would avoid this:
  18. Yeah, you should probably start your own thread. Unless there was some demand for you to post a parallel AAR, I can see how people will find it distracting.
  19. I may join you, mate. I could never get through the book. I tried a couple of times. And the first movie was unwatchable. Enough people have said good things about the new one that I think I'll check it out.
  20. I haven't poked my head into the General Forum in a very very very long time. But I need to vent and this falls under the forum rules. For months I looked forward to Apple TV's release of Asimov's Foundation as a series. I loved the book series, especially the first book. This Apple thing seems to have mostly ignored the source material. I haven't been this disappointed by anything in a very long time. Am I missing something here? Anyone else watching this, that read the book(s), digging it?
  21. The next patch will not just be for PBEM+++. I made this post a month ago.
  22. It is ironic that you say this. It is actually PBEM+++..........But that isn't what you'll see displayed in the game. What I wrote wasn't a typo.
