In the past hour.....hour and half...a bunch of you have strayed into politics outside the invasion. My kneejerk reaction was to give a handful of you vacations but I've decided to give a friendly reminder instead.

Oh he knows. We stay in touch through the Twitters. I suggested to him yesterday that he might find this thread interesting. Bill also has some Washington connections that I (selfishly) thought might add to the party. Also, he has met and drank with Peng some years ago in DC.

I think I issued 6 vacations this morning. Compared to none yesterday.

Did you read what I wrote? The only part that I left of your post is the only part that is a no-no in this thread. It's the kind of stuff that can start flame wars and this thread is a tinderbox as it is. We are keeping this thread on a very short leash when it comes to that kind of stuff. You could have said what you wanted to say without insulting people. That is my point. And that is what is required here. The people who have been given vacations from posting here did not receive anything like this from me. I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that you may not have seen the previous warnings because you're brand new. As long as you're not being insulting to people I don't care what your opinion is on what's being discussed. Feel free. Have at it.

Welcome Mark! Because you only became a member yesterday I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you hadn't seen my previous posts about this thread. I have deleted the parts of your post that are perfectly acceptable and only left the bits that might make the thread go off course. We won't have personal attacks on posters, either individually or as a group.

I've had to issue some more vacations this morning. As I said the other day, I will give short bans without warning. Please keep things cool. If you think that you are about to post something that might be crossing the line, even a little, then don't post it. Gotta keep a very short leash on this one, if we're going to keep the thread alive. It will be far too easy to go off the rails.

Correct. Frankly, I think this is an important thread. So, I am loath to lock it. If people start going down that road I will just give them short vacations from posting, without prior warning, rather than lock it.

Exactly. It seems darn near everyone has friend that is a cop. Ask them how many different eye witness accounts they get for things. And those witnesses are not usually in combat zones.

You hit the nail right on the head, at least for me. And @The_Capttouched on it as well. If a soldier doesn't spot a Sherman 100m away I think of it as heat of battle/fog of war. It doesn't take much of an imagination for me to think that in the confusion of battle soldiers don't see everything. I've had that attitude since CMBO. It's a feature, not a bug. I also agree with @Vacillatorthat this thread isn't a whinefest. Sometimes they highlight things that should be of legitimate concern. And, sometimes, the replies to comments like the first 2 posts might give them something to consider. A way to look at it that they hadn't considered before.

I can try taking a look at it if you want to send me a file. I haven't had any other reports of this though. The version of Cold War that I currently have installed is different than your, so I'd have to revert mine to check out the file. It's just the 1 battle though, right? It could just be a corrupted file? They are pretty rare but they do happen.

When you click on the mortar team itself does it say Not Deployed?

I wonder if something is wrong with your installation or somefink. You can see in the screenshot that I posted that the team is dismounted and there is no graphic of a mortar in the HT
