  1. There are tweaks and changes necessary to get everything working. A number of things have changed with the game engines since CMSF1's days. More accurate TOE info and making it all QB accessible is a bit of work for Steve. Most of the scenario data is usable, but changes are needed here and there, especially with TOE changes and new map features/deprecations. I don't know if only the original scenarios will come with the game or if there will be 'ports' of popular scenarios that came afterward made by third parties. I believe, but don't really know, that a lot of conversions of scenarios/campaigns may be offered after the game's release (by beta testers and original authors). I don't know if there will be any sort of automatic conversion of current scenarios (I doubt it, but don't know), which if it does exist will likely require a bit of tweaking to get them to be what they were originally intended.
  2. No specific announcements on 'upgrading' from CMSF1 to CMSF2. It has been HINTED that those who had purchased CMSF1 MIGHT get a discount on CMSF2, but that is the domain of speculation rather than a confirmed policy. Quite a bit of work has been necessary to bring CMSF1 up to the current standards of the CM series (3D models, textures, TOE, etc.). Scenarios and campaigns from CMSF1 have to be converted to run on CMSF2 (and this is being done), so CMSF1 content will not run directly on CMSF2. In other words, CMSF1 will NOT be DIRECTLY upgraded with CMSF2 in the manner that current CM games can have their 'engines' upgraded. Edit: beaten to the punch by domfluff
  3. When you purchased the 4.0 Upgrade for each game (or the bundle), one of the downloads available for each game is a 'full installer'. This installer will install the full game, including any modules/packs (though they may lack the latest 'scenario packs') without requiring anything else to be installed. This is really useful for CMBN, which has quite a few modules, upgrades and packs. Licensing everything may get a bit confusing. The sticky at the top of the forum in the 'Announcements' section Special Upgrade 4 Tech Tips should help get everything activated. You will need a license key for any module, pack and possibly some of the upgrades (even though they weren't installed directly in this case). When did you purchase CMBN ? When you purchased it will determine what version of the game engine it was at and therefore if you will need to get a CMBN 3.0 Upgrade license key or if the base game license key is for a 3.0 version of CMBN. CMRT, CMFB and CMBS I believe were at version 3.0 at the time of their release.
  4. The CMx1 series does not display widescreen resolutions. It is only hard-coded for standard 4:3 aspect ratio type resolutions. Is your resolution 1366 x 768 ? If so, then the second, vertical resolution will be the limiting factor. The resolution selection process will likely start at 1024 x 768 as the maximum. I can't remember if there are some odd resolutions above that that might be supported (such as the 1366 x 768).
  5. So you installed the 388.71 drivers I linked to earlier and you still get the crashing at 20 - 30 minutes ?
  6. So if you switch the resolution down to 1920 x 1080 (which is what I assume you were running earlier), what effect does that have ? I suspect it won't change what you're seeing. The CM series shouldn't really tax your video card, but if you check it with some monitoring software (sometimes available from the video card manufacturer or using GPUZ) is it still within a decent temperature range, which supposedly would be about 85 C with a GTX 1070 ? What driver version are you running currently ?
  7. What have you done so far to address this issue ? What advice have you tried and what are the exact results you're getting with it ?
  8. Interesting. I wouldn't have suspected that an Nvidia graphic setting would result in crashing. Sub-optimal graphics appearance or performance, yes, but not crashing. Do you know which particular setting made the difference ?
  9. I assume that you're running Windows 7 or later, is that correct ? Are you logging in with the same account that you used to install the games ? For all of the CM titles the 'game files' are stored within folders for the user account. If you login with a different account, the game may not be able to see those files (you wouldn't have 'permission' to see files for a different user). If this is the case I would guess that CMBN is installed somewhere where you have access to all of the files in the same directory. If you are using Windows open the Windows File Manager and go to your account directory to look for the CM files typically at: C:/Users/{your account name}/My Documents/Battlefront/Combat Mission Within this folder should be sub-folders for each of the games which will have the saved games, campaign and scenario files. CMBN (with a default install) will usually be installed in the 'Battlefront' folder (and NOT within the 'Combat Mission' sub-folder) and ALL games files will typically be there. If you're not finding the files in the above directory/folder, then you likely installed the game logged on with a different account. You would have to open that account (which may take awhile as permissions are written to the files/folders as you attempt to open the directory). Moving or copying the entire 'Battlefront' folder to your 'My Documents' folder in your account should get the games to see their files.
  10. The CM series utilizes comparatively basic OpenGL 2.x calls in a manner I believe is considered 'immediate mode'. This provides the greatest compatibility with most drivers that are capable of supporting OpenGL (though there are basically just 3 major video chip vendors left now). Most games on the PC utilize DirectX and those that utilize OpenGL may be using OpenGL 3.x or 4.x now. More than likely, as has often been the case in the past, an optimization within a newer driver release has broken something that CM's 'immediate mode' OpenGL 2.x depends on. There may be no 'fix' that Battlefront can release to work-around this issue. 'Working around' this issue could potentially require re-engineering the graphics engine (the bugs can be that significant that OpenGL 2.x simply won't work to fully support the graphics engine). This is no small task and goes beyond a 'simple patch'. The best course of action, if this problem is related to the video drivers (which seems to be the case based on some of the errors), is to go back to a slightly older driver and see if that helps. I would suggest the 388.71 (for Windows 10 64-bit). These were released only in December 2017, so they are not that old. When performing the installation I suggest selecting 'Custom' and then selecting the check-box for 'Clean installation', which should remove the previous drivers (and require a reboot).
  11. The Battle Pack is a separate purchase and it requires the 4.0 Upgrade patched to 2.10.
  12. Here's the link to the store for the Windows version of the CMBS 4.0 Upgrade.
  13. Did you purchase the '4.0 Upgrade' for CMBS ? If not, then you'll want to install the 1.04 patch again and see if everything works. If not, then you'll need to reinstall CMBS again and then install the 1.01, 1.03 and 1.04 patches. The '2.10' patch is only for those who have purchased and install the 4.0 Upgrade.
  14. Past mentions of the 'error 209' in these forums associate it with a 'fingerprint mismatch', which is saying that something changed on the computer (hardware or software) that doesn't match when the game was activated. Typically deleting the activation via gsClean (or the manual 'terminal method' of deleting the activation) should allow you to re-activate (and the 'fingerprint' gets generated anew for this new activation). I can only guess that if you're getting the 'error 209', then it is possible that the activation for the game (or module or upgrade) wasn't fully deleted before you started the game up again. You could try the 'manual' method of deleting activations on the Mac. This involves running the Terminal and executing commands to delete some hidden files. This will delete ALL of your current CM activations (including anything you just re-activated) and should allow you to reactivate without the 'error 209' (supposedly).
  15. I don't think that the issue actually correlates to the Ryzen or AMD64 instruction set since I believe some other users in the other thread are using Intel CPUs (I believe). Perhaps trying a slightly older video driver and see what happens: 388.71 WHQL (Win 10, 64-bit) The 'non-responsiveness' during a game save has been something that has occurred for a long time intermittently to users. I don't know what the culprit may be in this case, but it could be (strangely) video driver related rather than actually I/O-disk related.
  16. When I initially go to the page to start the Helpdesk ticket process it is considered 'secure' by my Chrome browser under Windows 7 (an 'https' connection). Are further pages labelled as 'unsecure' by your browser ? If the solution is to run gsClean, then you MIGHT have to do it for each module and reactivate each one. Not too much of a hassle, though on the Mac this MAY involve running a script from a Terminal window. Reactivating each module shouldn't be too much of a hassle afterwards, unless you have to manually locate and type in the license key for each one.
  17. I posted this in the Tech Support sub-forum, but in case you miss it there: There is NO subform for 2.10 tech support. If you're looking for help from the community for the CM series (CMBN, CMFI, CMRT, CMFB, CMBS, CMSF, CMA), then this is the place to post it. Have you added exclusions to Windows Defender for the CM games ? Typically such interference usually results in the game not being able to launch, but it may be worth it otherwise just in case something else is happening that may be due to Windows Defender. What ARE the libraries that are mentioned in your 'unhandled exceptions' ? If they're different every time, then I would guess that you might have a problem with your system rather than CM (CM is just running into the issue, though it is only a 32-bit program). You may want to run some memory diagnostics (such as Memtest86) and see if that comes up with anything. Some test are possible to fail even with good memory (certain 'Hammer' tests), but you'll want to pay attention to anything that fails. If the memory tests fail to find any faults, then please get some more details on the crashes, possibly several of them if the errors are different.

  19. With an OS upgrade it might be an issue of the copy-protection system being tripped. Typically I would expect a different error message to come up, but perhaps this is how it works on the Mac. Is this CMBN 4.0 or are you installing/running an earlier version ? I'm not sure if the earliest versions (1.x, maybe 2.x) MIGHT have problems with the latest MacOS, but I don't really know. I suggest opening up a Helpdesk ticket. They may have you use the gsClean utility to delete your current activation and reactivate. You MIGHT need another activation for your license key (typically there are 4 activations available with each license key by default). If that is the case, then you'll need to provide your license key and request an additional activation be added. You may need activations for each module/upgrade you have for CMBN.
  20. The author's last name seems familiar... I'm thinking he was a CM player that posted on these boards in the past.
  21. Does your laptop ONLY have Intel graphics or does it have a Nvidia GeForce or AMD Radeon also ? Intel integrated video typically has a bad time with the CM series. Often it should work, but the graphics may not look the best (smeared, almost unreadable text and other issues). However sometimes some Intel graphics drivers may crash with the games (which may be what you're experiencing since the error mentions the Intel OpenGL graphics driver). If you have a GeForce or Radeon ('discrete graphics'), then you will want to create a profile in the control panel for your particular graphics chip for CMBS. This should usually configure the laptop to run the game on those discrete graphics chip rather than the Intel integrated video. If you ONLY have Intel graphics on your laptop, then you'll want to check with your laptop manufacturer's site/support (Lenovo) and see if there is a newer driver available. Unfortunately it is VERY common for laptop manufacturers to release only ONE driver and never update it to a newer one. This wouldn't be a problem if you could consistently use the driver available from Intel, but when it comes to laptops you often can't do this and you may be limited to only what the laptop manufacturer provides.
  22. I didn't quite describe all of the steps in detail for getting to the download. Click on the 'CM Normndy - UPGRADE 4 (Windows)' text that is shown in your above screenshot and that takes you to a page with a download button. Clicking on that 'Start download' button then takes you to a link that says 'CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD'. Clicking on that link will take you to the Sharefile download location. In here there will be several folder icons that represent each possible file to download. Clicking on the checkmark box to the upper left of each particular folder icon selects that file to download. Selecting only one file 'CM Normandy 4.00 Full Windows' (4GB in size) is all that you need for the full installer. Clicking the 'Download' button in the lower right should initiate the actual downloading process (which will usually consist of a .zip compressed file that you will need to extract in order to run the installer).
  23. If you go into your Store Account (from the main Battlefront web page) and click on the 'View' text in front of your order for the 4.0 Upgrade, this should eventually take you to the download page which then loads up the ShareFile download page. In here should be the 4.0 Upgrade files that you purchased (whether this was CMBN by itself or a 'bundle' of them for the other CM games). There are 'upgrade only' files that require an installation of CMBN that has been patched to 3.12 and then there are 'full installers'. The 4.0 Full Installer is a file named 'CM Normandy 4.00 Full Windows' (4GB in size). Checkmark the box at the top of this selection and then click the green 'Download' button. With just a single selection the download should be the standard file name (multiple files selected will result in a default file name of 'files.zip'). This 4.0 full installer can be installed with no other installation present in the directory it is pointed at. It installs everything (I'm not absolutely certain about the 'CMBN Battle Pack'). If you have activated previous license keys on this computer, then those modules should come up as activated already, to my knowledge. You will need to activate with the 4.0 Upgrade license key and when you do that it should hopefully show the other modules that have been previously activated (the 'success' screen). If it doesn't, then you will need to click on the 'Activate Modules' shortcut (possibly on your desktop after the 4.0 Install or within your CMBN directory that the 4.0 Full install has been installed to). You will need to activate each module that you have a license key for, one at a time (i.e. - you will need to relaunch the 'Activate Modules' shortcut for each item that needs to be activated).
  24. The above settings that IanL has listed not only affect the Nvidia graphics, but they should also signal to the Nvidia GPU that it needs to run the game and NOT the Intel integrated video. Listing an application within the 'Manage 3D Settings' (regardless of exactly which settings you change) is one of the ways to signal to the Nvidia GPU to run the program.
  25. I wouldn't necessarily think that a particular resolution would cause a problem with the CM series. So every game crashes after 20 - 30 minutes of play, regardless of what you're doing ? So if you just brought up a game and got to the 3D screen (a Quick Battle or something) and left it there, it would still crash within 20 to 30 minutes ? What Windows version are you running (i.e. - Windows 10 Home 64-bit, etc.) ? What video driver do you have installed ? You may want to reinstall your video driver. When you do so, select the 'custom' option and select the 'clean install' check-box once it is presented. This should hopefully get rid of previous registry entries and other files that may only belong to a previous driver. Have you added 'exceptions' in your security software for the game executables and/or their directories ? Usually such steps are necessary just for the games to run. It is a bit more rare for security software to cause a problem once the game is running. Do you know what my be running in the background when you attempt to run a CM game ? Any particular programs or utilities ? You say that you 'format your computer', as this a complete wipe and reinstall of Windows and all of your applications or did you possibly just reinstall Windows over the previous installation ?
