  1. Oh, the stories he could tell you about the Peloponnesian wars. Meh on the elitism. I believe we are here for the entertainment value of the Second World War. To that end Saving Private Ryan isn't as irrelevant as the readers of the top shelf of historical reference works would like to think. For instance, without it and films like it WW2 would be that unpleasant moment in time humanity would rather forget. But instead, we think it cool and fun. Films did that.
  2. I too don't think this technological gadget gap amounted to all that much. The flatter trajectory of German tank guns did more to help aim along then any Zeiss thingamajig. And again, in most typical combat ranges even that should not be too big an a factor. If there is a particular German advantage (other then penetration and armour) I reckon it should in camouflage. I do love the look of a StuG outfitted with more foliage then your average national park. That alone deserves a slight modifier to being spotted.
  3. The big trick to flame units is to not let them get within LOS of the enemy. Area fire nearby any intended victim just outside of their LOS and that target will become REALLY unhappy about staying put. It takes some extra effort but if used properly they are more able to dislodge an enemy then a full SMG squad.
  4. You still get to see the action, it's just not stored so you cannot hit rewind and watch again. Which sounds strange to me because if I watched the damn thing, it's on my PC in some form somewhere, isn't it? So why no playback? But then I know nothing.
  5. Yup. And the Crocodiles of 79th Armoured were whored out extensively, even to US forces usually not keen on British innovations. Besides, it's about time BFC started on decent looking flames. The knocked out vehicle flames just don't cut it and might benefit from BFC having a proper go at flamey things.
  6. Hah! That Flak Pz 38 should go nicely with my favourite, the Crusader AA.
  7. No Panzer IIIs either. But the way that CMx2 lets us mix forces does increase the chances of finding a decent stand in. That's something.
  8. I certainly always felt that putting the boot in after a successful battle was a large part of the reward. I hate it when I get robbed of that by the ceasefire. If the situation truly needs a ceasefire, I'll be sure to ask for one so don't force one on me. CMSF is the worst offender in that often it ends fights when it looks to me the enemy still has plenty fight in them.
  9. I'd prefer to see horses before motorcycles. They were still one of the Wehrmachts most significant means of schlepping things around. But yeah, neither is truly required on the tactical battlefield where both horse and motorcycle wouldn't be if they could possibly help it.
  10. I'm baffled because someone makes an observation and instead of acknowledging that, people line up to say screenies might not resemble the finished product, and modders will change it anyway. That is neither here nor there. He's absolutely 100% correct that they should be more greenish then this very cartoonish grey uniform. Also, I may have overused the world baffled. But my points stands. If someone makes a fair observation, why not acknowledge that instead of talking round the issue. Helps the debate along, I feel.
  11. Nonetheless, tiger123 has a point and I'm baffled that testers are so keen to deflect what is a valid comment. That grey is not a very good colour, an Steve himself has previously indicated he agrees.
  12. No, troops dropping in on parachutes will not be shown. Nor do they need to be. Paras dropping in to combat were the exception, not the rule. so modelling parachutes seems to me work for little reward. Especially since we have always been able to place reinforcements all over a map, simulating par drops whenever the need arose.
  13. Would be nice. If it's not feasible for vehicles then at least try and obscure what type of infantry I'm dealing with. Having a big label hovering over a unit just spotted from a mile away, ID-ing exactly what it is is no good.
  14. Not sure I agree there, MikeyD. I could get good use out of flamethrower infantry. And not just defensively. Especially in woods and urban terrain they could be real monsters. It was the WASP I had trouble with. Not as easily hidden as infantry and not as survivable as the Croc, I rarely the WOOSH for my buck out of them. btw 12"?! That's tiny! What am I going to do with such puny little pop guns? 14" please, and that only as a stop-gap measure until the Brits show up with their 15" and 16", of course.
  15. Will this "another day" possibly be any of the modules? It won't be Normandy without the Crocodile especially.
  16. Oh btw, on the main Normandy page: Do vehicles really come with piles and piles of weapons or is the sad truth that they will instead have weapon mounts?
  17. Upload them using this site: http://imageshack.us/ Easy to use. Click on browse, find the image you want on your machine and upload it. Please do use the re-size option if they are large. 640x480 or 800x600 is sufficiently large in most cases.
  18. Huh! Learn something every day. While I was aware of the presence of the SS opposite US forces around Operation Lüttich/Cobra, I always got the impression that prior to that contact with the SS was fairly limited.
  19. Comprise to what? It's just too much to put it all in one go. To do US Army and Wehrmacht well is already a colossal task. For some of the fighting in the US sector the inclusion FJ would've been nice. Nice, but not absolutely essential. As for SS, they didn't show up until the party was pretty much over. Unless you wanted to include Brits, Canadians and Poles in the first release too? A line had be drawn somewhere, and I can fully accept that. They'll get round to it sooner or later. *checks BFC release history* Okay... they'll get round to it later.
  20. Well, I did myself say my annoyance was strange. Nonetheless, annoyed is what I am. And baffled. For a game definitely going to be released in 2009, almost ready for the full length of 2010 and yet you guys still not ready to announce it. That's unusual. and it's a big departure from Ye Olden Days where my curiosity towards CMBO was regularly and substantially sated. Waiting on your games was more fun then. And I don't like the change. I fully realize my opinions won't change a damn thing at your end. It is what is, to fall back on platitude. But I'll still give you my opinion. Not a whole lot else to do around here in this place of opinion giving.
