  1. I think I heard something about it a few weeks ago but they have been pretty quiet since then.
  2. Yes. The night sight is a Thermal Imager. It was the first one I got to play with in the Army.
  3. Halloween is my favorite holiday. Lots of fun and not nearly the pressure and BS that go with Christmas. In my neighborhood we seem to be getting fewer and fewer kids. We have only been in our house for 3 years so I wonder if our section has a bad reputation or something. I can hear kids around our area but they seem to turn down other streets. Next year I am going to try to do the big garage thing to see if I can draw the kids back.
  4. By the way, the name of the mission is "Milk Run." It isn't meant to be deceptive but rather to reflect the fact that the Marines are trying to secure their supply route.
  5. A lot of the positions are pretty obvious and can be clobbered by arty or overwatched by snipers. A heavy/quick 155 barrage will clear out most enemy positions and use up hardly any ammo. Be sure to save some arty for smoke though, it will be a life saver. One thing you can do is to peak a tank into a marginal position and it will draw missiles that have a good chance of slamming into something other than the tank. Then all you have to worry about are RPGs. That is where your smoke and infantry come in.
  6. The victory threshold is set to tactical for this one. Not sure if that is going to change with the update. If it makes you feel any better, it took me more than a couple times to win this one even though I know where everyone is.
  7. "We as a country seem to have a high regard for our armed forces when we call on them to do some heroic deeds for us but the rest of the time we seem to turn a blind eye to their poor pay and conditions." Kipling comes to mind here.
  8. Totally sweet. I meant to do up my house but got too busy with school. Next year I plan on doing something pretty big.
  9. Try for flank and rear hits. If the squad has multiple AT4/LAWs they will tend to volley them. If you get a good rear or side shot it will increase the chance that each one will do damage, possibly fatal. Often a mobility kill followed by a deluge of grenades will cause the crew to bail out even if the tank is still alive.
  10. MeatEtr, Didn't you see the next picture? (Actually I haven't spent it yet. Going to the RenFest next weekend so I think I'll either spend it on food or something medieval looking.) Junk, Deviled Egg.
  11. Hmm... Maybe old guys dressing up is generally a bad idea.
  12. My pumpkin. Won $50 in the contest at work for it!
  13. That's just because no one wants to be the guy who was afraid of the pink truck and had to shoot it.
  14. What if they throw in a can of beans and crunchy mustard with each CD?
  15. Time is flying so fast I didn't notice going over 4000 posts. Woo Hoo!
  16. "Okay, the UAZ was at very short range (two floors down, one or two meters away from the wall), but was unoccopied, and surely couldn't have been that much of a threat to the sniper team." Maybe he was a Ford man.
  17. Too many kids on this board. I still can't believe I have been out of the Army for 8 years and married for 13.
  18. How are you fighting? You have to be nearly totally defensive with this one. Set your guys in ambush positions and keep them out of sight of long range fire. With the Javelin, the best thing to do is to shuffle them around to where they can see and engage one tank at a time. That will usually keep them from being targetted. Use your Naval support to clobber the enemy units in overwatch on the far hill. The response time is too long to be really useful against the tanks. It can work though but you have to get kind of lucky. Basically let the enemy come to you.
  19. Because the US tax code makes it more profitable for US companies to sell US oil and import foreign oil.
  20. Yeah, if you can use them they will act like a big flash/bang and stun the people inside.
  21. I have seen several articles about growing grass roots resentment over the image the radicals give to the entire Muslim world. They are usually burried at the back of the paper. I'm not saying I agree with any one opinion put forth here but there are lots of things going on that don't get a lot of press.
  22. And those resources are the only reason you occasionally hear the West talk about improving our relations with the Dark Continent.
  23. It's not, it's SOP. Move units in position to fire on the enemy positions to get them to put their heads down while your assault element conducts building entry. The reason it takes tens, or even hundreds, of thousands of rounds to produce a single casualty is because only a minute amount of fire is actually aimd AT someone. Most of it is designed to influence enemy action rather than destroy him. During one excercise I was on as an M60 gunner I was suppressing a building while one of the squads manuevered in position to enter and clear. They had set up a popup target in one of the windows for us to shoot at. As the squad was entering one side I was shooting up the other. (Little addendum to that story: We did so well that the BC decided to "reward" us by allowing us to do the range again. This would have been fine except that it was March in Wildflecken and there were three feet of snow on the ground, and the house was at the end of a 3 mile approach march up the side of a mountain. Needless to say we were less than appreciative of our reward. I asked the leader of the assault squad how the target lifter was set up and he said it was just sitting on the floor. So the next interation saw a lot of low shots at the man in the window. It wasn't long before he quit coming back up.)
  24. I would just like to add that of course Oil is the cause of all of this. If the ME didn't have any oil then the West would happily sit by and let them kill themselves, Israel included since we would have no need for a strong ally in the region. If you have any doubts about this just look at Africa, or even the Balkans. There are genocides and ethnic cleansings that the West is perfectly willing to overlook because they don't threaten any of our vital interests. Please don't bother citing the feeble efforts of the EU and NATO in the Balkans or the UN/US in Somalia. If there was any actual interest in either of those areas the West would have gone in like A-stan or Iraq.
