  1. Nice post there Boeman. I think I quit playing after Ultima 3. I prefered the D&D campaign worlds to that of Ultima and I just never got into MMOGs, way too many *******s for me to enjoy the games. I put Garriot right up there with Sid and Charles on my Mt. Rushmoore of the computer gaming world.
  2. Rounds landing close to a building have a chance to damage the occupants. The larger the round and the closer the hit the better the chance. One thing you might try is using a small area target centered on the building. That way the rounds might be distributed more. If you use a point target then a larger proportion of the rounds will strike the building itself, which may not be what you want. (I haven't checked this out in any systematic way so it may just be a matter of perception.)
  3. They are in Marine rifle companies.
  4. Smoke. Use it to get your squads in position to bring fires to bear on the enemy position. trying to take out anything larger than a small single story building with 81mm is going to use way to many rounds.
  5. Remember your goal. Your primary focus needs to be on taking Eeyore and Pooh. The other missions are oncall, which means that you can do them if you want. You can seal off the flanks with support troops and arty supported by a couple AFVs and concentrate your main effort on siezing the objectives.
  6. Same thing in the game. Only dismounted vehicle crews might have no NODs.
  7. Yes, I think the only U.S. units that you might see in the game without NODs are vehicle crews.
  8. Here's the story. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6056926.html
  9. Old computer RPG. One of the first to really make it big.
  10. Hey! Lord British is on the International Space Station. Neat.
  11. What sucks about strapping the Javelin to your ruck is that you have to put enough stuff in it to give the ruck some body. So a couple pair of socks and an MRE won't cut it. The last time I had to hump the thing was at NTC and my ruck, LBV, M16, and the missile weighed about 120 lbs.
  12. End positions of my last run through. Total victory with a total of about 50 casualties, an LAV, and 3 AAV's. Punched straight up the middle using choppers to take out enemy armor and lots of Heavy/Quick missions from Lima Battery. Small arty was used for quick reation and smoke. Used lots of smoke, both handheld and arty.
  13. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER unload within the field of view of a suspected enemy position. All you do is set up a nice pop-up target range for the enemy. Unload behind at least one terrain feature. Use smoke to approach and plaster the area with machinegun fire from either vehicles or MMG teams before assaulting into the buildings.
  14. Global Security This is a pretty good site. Lots of stuff. Look in the Military section and then the Systems subsection for specific weapons.
  15. I though you turned it into one of those electronic pet things. Now we have to feed it every day.
  16. Heavy calibur airbursts will bring down buildings with a medium barrage. 120 or bigger.
  17. It might. There is a tendency in realtime to forget the overall plan and get stuck with one group while the rest of the force just sits around and gets shot at. WEGO helps you to slow down and see the field better but you will have lest fine control over your units.
  18. General or armour are straight HE. Both are good against buildings but I prefer armour because it seems to give a tighter shot group.
  19. Very nice. Thanks for the link and welcome to BFC. Missile failures are modelled in the game. I asked and Charles said they were. I think my failure rate is about what the blog states. The Javelin guy would have a lot easier time if he secured the missile on the top of his ruck. Where he had it tends to unbalance you and make it hard to stand. I was always a grab the straps and flip the ruck over my head kind of guy, but everyone has their own techniques for dealing with heavy equipment.
  20. If you suspect that a building is an enemy position then prep it with fire or obscure it with smoke. It is very simple to keep people outside from seeing into a building while allowing you to see out. Simply turning out the lights will make glass one way (if it is darker inside then you cannot see inside) and some mesh curtains will allow you to see out while keeping others from looking in. You must assume that the building is occupied.
  21. Strange, I have no problems with the "Print Screen" button method.
  22. I would love to push Merkavas around. The worst BFC can say is "no." I would love CMSF to be a big sandbox type game. Maybe someday.
