  1. The fall of Tobruk. The withdrawal from Greece was a failure, which led to Crete.
  2. Artwork is very nice. Katyusha rocket launchers!
  3. Just came across this today At the nearby D-Day beaches in Normandy, the terrific Utah Beach Landing Museum (near Sainte Marie du Mont, www.utah-beach.com is now open. Built in the sand dunes around the remains of a German bunker, with floors both above and below sea level, the museum's finale is a large, glassed-in room overlooking Utah Beach.
  4. The scene at 1:06 is almost sci-fi looking. How can infantry run so fast? (And why would they run towards each other?) The armor looks like they can just zip down a road at 65 mph...
  5. I just can't help commenting...looks like he is relieving himself on the wall.
  6. I stayed in Bayeux, which is a great, small town at the Hotel Lion d'Or. There are some small military cemetaries right outside of the town. It was amazing to walk past both allied and german tombstones. There is a war museum in town as well http://www.ww2museums.com/article.asp?id=62 Took a train to Caen and visited the museum there as well. As far as tours, when we arrived at the train station in Bayeux, I saw a small tour van parked nearby, jotted down his name and number. He was a local guy, called him up and he took us to Point du Hoc, Omaha beach and the Normandy American Cemetery. He only took about 8 people and since he was local he was very informative. This was quite a while ago, but I am sure there are local guys who give great tours, much better than the big bus tours. Normandy is very beautiful, just not a lot of sun during the summer, just like here in San Francisco.
  7. Nice AAR. For those of us who didn't play, it'd be nice to get the briefing and general details; map, size of forces, etc that were in the scenario.
  8. Excellent. Loved the voice overs...made me laugh out loud at work. "F the promotion, I just want to go home." Too funny
  9. Second to last battle in Road to Montbourg. I encounter a HMG. I fire on it for a turn or two. Two of the crew surrender (the second member's hand is all that is showing on the left hand side.) But...while hand's raised, one of the, allegedly, surrendered crew members continues to fire! Odd and contrary to the Geneva Convention I'll bet. FWIW, all members surrendered on the next turn.
  10. It would be cool to have a video briefing at the beginning of a campaign/battle within a campaign, aerial footage, supposed enemy locations based on last night's patrol, etc. Here is your mission...
  11. Sort of like taking the film "Cross of Iron" and making it a first person game and having to make decisions based upon your situation, environment, etc. Life as Sgt Steiner.
  12. Like Squad Leader? Start with a 7-0 Sgt and try to become that 10-3 leader? Close Combat One did that. Your guy was promoted based on a variety of things; scenarios won, kills etc. . IIRC he could get wounded, but would sit out the next battle in the campaign. So when your guy gets KIA, campaign ends right then and there?
  13. I think they had to put it in neutral. IIRC the tracks weren't moving when it first came out of the ground. Wouldn't want to have been the first guy inside...who knows what was living in there.
  14. Looks like these guys restore what they find. I googled translated the site. Check out the photo archive and video links. I'd like to know how they find these things under all that earth.
  15. Pretty amazing. The Russian text states Velikiye Luki (Великие Луки), so somewhere between late 42 and early 43. Wonder how the crew is?
  16. I don't think the guy is a very good writer. I also don't think he spent a lot of time with the game. It takes a bit of time to learn the camera and use it quickly. Once you've nailed that it's no problem. As far as the graphics complaint, I have no real issues. Sure terrain could look better, but I'm playing it for the playability and the challenge of accomplishing missions. I love the structure of the game. +1 on the addiction though.
  17. They're the computers with all the eye candy...should try one.
