Battlefront Repository
This mod changes the ambient background sound to typical bird and insect noises with periodic automatic weapons fire in the far distance. Gone is the annoying and repetitious boom and crash artillery background.Instructions:Place the background day combat.wav file in the ""Combat Mission Battle for Normandy\DATA\Z"" folder. If you do not have a Z folder then create one for this and any future mod. This background blends in naturally when the combat starts or subsides. Works well with existing voice mods. And the music removal mod. More...
togi
I tried but artillery sounds are still there I had listened the new file before placement of the Z folder, there was no artillery sounds. Only insects, birds and small arms can be heard. What's the problem?
nik mond
could someone test or verify this worked for them? Its works OK for me by just placing the "background day combat.wav" file in the Z folder.
Erwin
Did you try adding a Z to the front of the name to ensure it is loaded last?
Petrus58
It works OK for me - i.e. no artillery. A nice alternative, thanks.
nik mond
Did you try adding a Z to the front of the name to ensure it is loaded last? Ahhh! This is a name specific file I believe. So the the spelling can't be changed. Please check that the background day combat.wav file is not renamed.
Sequoia
Sometimes other sound mods conflict. Sometimes it's necessary to put a z folder within the z folder when this happens.
mjkerner
Sometimes other sound mods conflict. Sometimes it's necessary to put a z folder within the z folder when this happens. I've also had the wierd experience of having the arty sounds show up in a downloaded scenario (several, actually), even though I had the first version of this mod loaded--and working--for months. Somehow the .btt file overrode the mod in the z folder?!?!? nik, I did it just the way you did; the new one works just as well as the old one did.
Erwin
"This is a name specific file I believe." I did not realize that there are files that one cannot alter by putting a "Z" in front to ensure it will be loaded last. (Have been doing that a lot.) What sort of files are name specific? Presumably they can be placed in a folder that has a "Z" at the start to ensure it will be loaded last, or...?
mjkerner
Erwin, all the image .bmp files and the .wav sound files have to have specific names in order for the game code to read and use. You can Rezpack them into brz files, or just put them in a folder, and you can then name the brz file or the folder anything you want.
Erwin
Thanks. I'll make sure all my files are in folders from now on. I don't like brz files/folders as it makes it a lot harder/more time consuming to have to keep exploding them in order to compare or mix and match. Am thrilled that Aris just puts his files in zips and regular folders.
