Javaslinger
Playing the final tutorial mission. I have a battery of 75mm howitzers. Four tubes. I figured I could direct 2 tubes at each of the TRP's... apparently not. Why would you not use all 4 tubes at a time if you can't split them to different targets? Thanks, Javasligner
Magpie_Oz
Lower volume of fire over a larger period of time I'd think. Never used it myself I always go full battery
Pak40
I think the only advantage to using 2 tubes is that the other two tubes will be cool. So, if you do an immediate barrage after the 1st barrage then you don't have to wait for your tubes to cool down.
Agua
I've used less than all tubes playing in realtime when I have a specific target I want taken out, e.g., AT gun, and want to conserve ammo by halting fire once the job's done.
MikeyD
Ack! I was about to suggest purchasing two batteries of two howitzers instead of one battery of four howitzers. But I just checked. This can't be done. A howitzer battery is as big as it is (though you can specify the number of guns firing). In CM:BN there is no big and small batteries of particular gun types. CMSF and CMA are more flexible. A single 105mm artillery battery in CMSF would bring four individual pairs of guns that could be targeted simultaneously. The wonders of modern warfare, one supposes.

In some calibres for the Americans at least, there are options for 2 or 4 gun elements: the difference between Cannon and Howitzer batteries...
Battlefront.com
We did the best we could to keep the artillery reflecting actual use doctrine. In general batteries did not split their fire between two targets. Infantry Guns, however, when used off map are more flexible (usually) because they were usually task assigned in pairs.
