beatmasta
I just noticed that one of my squads used all of it's bazooka ammunition when I ordered it to area fire on a part of a bogace... I quess that target area light would be answer to avoid it but it seems quite silly anyways that the infantry blasts away it's AT ammo on to area target...
Elmar Bijlsma
It is the game giving you the benefit of the doubt. It assumes you know what you are doing. If this is not the case, the AI is not to blame.

Yes, Target Light would have preserved your rockets, and your rifle grenades.
Erik Springelkamp
Even when my unit sees the enemy, in CMSF I often order my Syrian infantry to area fire on a building to make them fire their RPG's, which can cause a lot of casualties.

Good tip. I was wondering how to get an infantry squad to shoot off everything it could. I was planning on pulling them out of line since they were getting low on rifle ammo, but still had all their bazooka HE. In the end I left them in line and things turned out okay anyway since the Germans mostly broke. By the way, the squad was in a trench and it seemed to protect them pretty well against MG and rifle fire.
PhantomApple
Does the AI only fire AT assets when given an order by the player?
YankeeDog
Does the AI only fire AT assets when given an order by the player? No; the AI will use AT assets of its own accord, especially against armored vehicles and bunkers, but sometimes against secondary targets like enemy infantry, especially infantry in buildings. In fact, left to its own devices, the AI will open up with infantry AT weapons like Bazookas at very long range. The infantry AI does seem more especially willing to use infantry AT assets like bazookas if you give it an Area Fire TARGET order. With TARGET LIGHT area fire orders, infantry does not seem to use AT specials.
sburke
Does the AI only fire AT assets when given an order by the player? No, in fact if you do not want it firing you better give it a short target arc. I recently had an idiot Landser loose off a PzShk when walking, miss by a mile and get himself and a recon team hiding nearby killed.

I recently lost 7 casualties in one turn (4 WIA, 3 KIA) to 2 'Schreck rounds that missed a Sherman, went long and landed on an airborne squad. OUCH.
