Boche
why is it that most of the time i call in a CAS mission from say a torando, it goes through all the waiting, all the lauch procedutes, says the missile or bomb is launched and not only do i get no explosion, i lose the ammo?!?!
Alan8325
That problem has been around with all fixed-wing CAS for as long as I can remember. I don't believe it's realistic, therefore I always save before CAS arrives and if the "faulty bomb release" happens, I reload the save and let it happen again.
dan/california
I remain unclear whether this reflects Steve's use low opinion of the Air Force, or is an actual bug.
hoolaman
Maybe it hit the orphanage in the next village?
Elmar Bijlsma
Maybe it hit the orphanage in the next village? Was there a Chinese embassy nearby? Or a wedding? And that's nothing. If you are a Brit or Canadian you are damn lucky no bombs get dropped.
dan/california
"Was there a Chinese embassy nearby?" The really funny part was every other embassy in Belgrade sending over a detailed packet with their current address, aerial photos, and such. The desire not to be the victim of the second targeting mistake was quite high. Although in the Air Force's defense, certain things are inevitable when you decide to make omelettes.

Meach
I have posted this in the testers forum for the crew to pick over. I will report back if and when I get any info.
gibsonm
Can I just ask what maybe a silly question. Where is the target? I mean if the target is on a map edge perhaps the muntion is landing but not on the map?
akd
Random attack direction combined with significant elevation changes on the map often results in helicopter munitions striking far, far off the edge of the map, but you can hear it and see the smoke hanging in space in the distance. Not sure if the same can happen with fixed-wing aircraft.
gibsonm
Yes I'm afraid that without a saved game or a description of the flight path, confirmation that the JTAC maintains "eyes on" throughout, etc. this will be hard to nail down.
Meach
Update: We now have a save of this to disect.
Lethaface
This is something I have seen in CMSF regularly, sometimes even hearing the bomb falling sound but no actual explosion. I always thought it were duds and that I was rather unlucky...
Meach
I am lucky never to have seen this happen but I play real time. I wonder if it's a turn based bug.... The other thing I thought of is duds....but then, as an esteemed tester collegue pointed out "500kg of iron is gonna put a crimp in yer day, sport, even without the bang!" or words to that effect I think the problem is that there is no impact therefore no detonation because as I was told 500kg of anything would make some kind of impact. Which is absolutley correct. Just my tuppence worth and I am probably wrong so should not be taken seriously by anyone, ever.
