Sergei
I think this is so wrong. Martin Luther was an evil anti-semitic religious nut, but that didn't ruin Martin Luther King Jr's life. And don't even get me started with Jesus... I also think that some people should waive their rights to reproduction and pursue other hobbies. Cake request for 3-year-old Hitler namesake denied EASTON, Pa. -- The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child's full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance. Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are upset not only with the decision made by the Greenwich ShopRite, but with an outpouring of angry Internet postings in response to a local newspaper article over the weekend on their flare-up over frosting. "I think people need to take their heads out of the cloud they've been in and start focusing on the future and not on the past," Heath Campbell said Tuesday in an interview conducted in Easton, on the other side of the Delaware River from where the family lives in Hunterdon County, N.J. "There's a new president and he says it's time for a change; well, then it's time for a change," the 35-year-old continued. "They need to accept a name. A name's a name. The kid isn't going to grow up and do what (Hitler) did." Deborah Campbell, 25, said she phoned in her order last week to the ShopRite. When she told the bakery department she wanted her son's name spelled out, she was told to talk to a supervisor, who denied the request. Karen Meleta, a spokeswoman for ShopRite, said the Campbells had similar requests denied at the same store the last two years and said Heath Campbell previously had asked for a swastika to be included in the decoration. "We reserve the right not to print anything on the cake that we deem to be inappropriate," Meleta said. "We considered this inappropriate." The Campbells ultimately got their cake decorated at a Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania, Deborah Campbell said. About 12 people attended the birthday party on Sunday, including several children who were of mixed race, according to Heath Campbell. "If we're so racist, then why would I have them come into my home?" he asked. The Campbells' other two children also have unusual names: JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell turns 2 in a few months and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell will be 1 in April. Heath Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked the name and because "no one else in the world would have that name." He sounded surprised by all the controversy the dispute had generated. Campbell said his ancestors are German and that he has lived his entire life in Hunterdon County. On Tuesday he wore a pair of black boots he said were worn by a German soldier during World War II. He said he was raised not to avoid people of other races but not to mix with them socially or romantically. But he said he would try to raise his children differently. "Say he grows up and hangs out with black people. That's fine, I don't really care," he said. "That's his choice." Yeah, I'm sure they're not racists. Just irregular idiots.

Elmar Bijlsma
"...start focusing on the future and not on the past" Start by not naming your kid Adolf Hitler would be a start. "If we're so racist, then why would I have them come into my home?" If you aren't racist, don't expect brownie points for coloured kids running around your house. The guy is perhaps trying not to be, but he clearly is. Don't know what to make of this. On the one hand parents should be free to name their kids without other people withholding their services on that basis. Then again, naming him Adolf Hitler? WTF?! nothing subtle like Adolf Alois, plain old Adolf Hitler, right there. That kid deserves better parents.
Field Marshal Blücher
I'm not racist, I just name two of my children Adolf Hitler and Aryan Nation. Nothing odd about that.

Field Marshal Blücher
I also liked how he picked "Adolf Hitler" because no one else would have that name. a) Someone already did This is also true for such names as: -Xasdbykje asjdgte -Unit 704 -Throatwobbler Mangrove (spelled Raymond Luxury Yacht) If all he wanted was a unique name, he could have gone in lots of other directions.

Hawkmek
Doesn't the kid have that "Damian Thorn" look? Gonna be a rough childhood for him. I bet he changes it later. Or he'll embrace it and take over the local Polish Market ala Family Guy.

Sergei
A swastika is a swastika regardless of direction. The 'correct' direction varies by culture or cult, but what is in common is that within a culture the "correctly facing" swastika is a symbol of good luck, while the opposite facing swastika is a symbol of bad luck. Since Mr.Campbell apparently buys into the German 20th century swastika cult, he is asking for bad luck.
ironbar
I'd hate to see their Christmas tree. Odd he didn't choose Schiklegruber for one of the kid's names; has a nice ring to it doesn't it?

Odd he didn't choose Schiklegruber for one of the kid's names; has a nice ring to it doesn't it? For a second I thought of that, and then I realized that they probably wouldn't want to name their children a name that Hitler didn't like.
dieseltaylor
I normally recoil from the state getting involved too closely with family matters but in this case the couple - or certainly the husband is a nutter. Whether the children will grow up even half way normal .....

Stalins Organ
AFAIK there's nothing in the US constitution that says a kid has a right to a birthday cake is there? I mean even ones without f-wit moronic parents (even if trying to reform perhaps) dont' have that as a "right"? So just what rights are being trampled here? and how is it that 1 supermarket with a vague sense of decency is suddenly "America"? Don't they have the right of freedom of speech too? and doesn't the right of freedom of speech include the right to not say something you find offensive? Why can't the parents bake and ice the freakin' cake themselves? Heck even I could probably do that if I set my mind to it. So many questions....so few "right" answers! :/

And like as not he'll find it. But my point was that if you are claiming to be adulating the Nazis, you ought at minimum reproduce their most sacred symbol as it was presented. But for all I care, the bugger can go piss off. Michael

I would like to be able to say that my ingeniously subtle title for the thread provoked people more than the actual news item, but unfortunately all I got was a Kiwi. God knows those have the sense of humour of a sheep, which explains their intimate connection to them, so it quite doesn't count. Meh, I should have gone with my original idea of "Political Correctness Kills Our Children: American Nazi Babies Starved of Cake".
JonS
SO's surname is "Campbell". You've offended his kith and kin, so now you've a mad Scots stalker. Lucky you.
SSgt Viljuri
What's wrong with all these Campbells? One obviously uses a version of comrade Stalin's name as a handle for self-identification purposes, whereas another brings this guy to my mind, for some peculiar reason.
Affentitten
It amuses me to think that the real Hitler would have probably had trash like this shipped off to a labour battalion somewhere on the Eastern Front. His wife certainly looks like she's been hit in the face with a shovel.
John D Salt
What's wrong with all these Campbells? One obviously uses a version of comrade Stalin's name as a handle for self-identification purposes, whereas another brings this guy to my mind, for some peculiar reason. It's the whole Glencoe thing. If criminality is indeed hereditary, then it makes perfect sense that the name Campbell has been a byword for murderous treachery even longer than Macdonald has been a byword for high-fat fast food (even before Alastair Campbell added fresh tarnish to the name as Bliar's main retailer of official untruth). When I worked in KSFA, a colleague with an interesting past in US military funnies was one Charlie Campbell, and an excellent bloke he was, despite the name. He once told me that he was bimbling around some US city, let's say New York, on, ooh, let's imagine it was Jan 25th, and happened to spot somebody walking along the street in full Scots fig, kilt, dirk, sporran, hose-tops, the works. Delighted at this, he accosted the gentleman in question, expressed admiration for his rig, asked what tartan he was wearing, and declared that he was, himself, of Scots ancestry. The kiltie responded affably, and asked what name he bore. "Campbell", he said. His interlocutor at once stiffened, fixed him with a glittering eye, and, face reddened with rage, declaimed "Ye murrrdering swine!", before turning his back and storming away. Can't imagine why he doesn't change his surname to something inoffensive, like Amin, Pot, Ceaucescu, Dzhugashvili, Bokassa or Burgoyne. All the best, John.
