  1. Seconded. This has been an annoyance for years.
  2. Oh good, they can spend the money they will raise through Kickstarter on something else interesting then Though I have to comment that the thread you linked to is mostly ancient history -- most posts are several months old -- and there isn't much of 2014 left anymore to deliver all the promised goodies. I guess BFC wouldn't be BFC if they tweeted every time they made a test build, but would be nice to hear something every now and then. Like an announcement of pre-orders opening soon?
  3. Yeah, that's why I suggested something where the bulk of the grunt work could be outsourced to a modeling/graphics shop. The 3.0 engine already has so many features that I can't immediately think what major coding would be needed for Tunisia '43 -- if we can live without multi-turreted tanks for the time being that is Of course BFC would need to do quality control -- I know from first hand experience how subcontractors work -- and perhaps minor engine adjustments, but having the money needed up front via Kickstarter would mean more freedom of movement for them in financial terms, even if it doesn't buy more man-hours per week for them directly. At least financially their existing projects wouldn't be disrupted.
  4. Just a thought: I'd like to have some nice Tunisia scenarios and campaigns, like probably some other readers of this forum would. Assuming a Tunisia module could be created with minimal code additions to CMFI and the work would be mostly about new 3D models (buildings, landscape objects) and uniform/vehicle textures as well as map and scenario design, BF could easily contract the work from some 3rd party if they have the money. That's what they already do for the artwork, isn't it? So why not make a Kickstarter project to see how much interest there would be and whether the funding would reach the amount BF would need to make such a module a low-risk (or even zero-risk) venture?
  5. France 1940 Barbarossa North Africa (at least 1943 module for CMFI) I gave CMSF a try, but I don't like that modern stuff, so I'm probably going to skip Black Sea unless the demo is really something else.
  6. Good luck selling this chair in the UK: http://royaldesign.fi/viewitem.aspx?ID=115124 Turks have a way of naming their domestic appliances: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ar%C3%A7elik
  7. Including the field kitchens. I heard Waffel SS units had the best breakfasts of the war.
  8. Did you try the file in the program installation directory or the one under My Documents (or somefink)? The latter one seems to be the one that has the effect, at least on my PC. And yeah, this seems to be a recurring pain with every CM installation... assigning + to next unit over and over again, needing to fiddle with the hotkeys. Once past that I've enjoyed the game so far :-)
  9. Personally I'd want Barbarossa with all those tin can tanks (Pz IIIs duking it out with T-26s, yei) way before Hungarians and Romanians in '44 or '45. I did play Hungarians and Romanians in CMBB, but to be interesting there would need to be scenarios where they aren't mere whipping boys for the Germans.
  10. What's the likelihood of encountering a Tiger or a Panther, and what would you counter that with? Is Su-85 enough to do that (assuming it would be the cheapest of possible alternatives) reliably? Dinky old T-34/76s will be cat food :-) Stalinorgel battery is a must to set up the proper mood at the beginning!
  11. Mmh. Unnecessary micromanagement. The AI could well calculate that it's instructed to make a tight turn -- basic geometry there -- and coming to the turn adjust speed by itself accordingly, while otherwise proceeding at best possible speed.
  12. Of course he did, it was headed by Ernst Röhm
  13. Heh. That reminds me, I'd pay serious money for Poland '39, Finland '39-'40, France '40 or Barbarossa modules. All those crap tanks are somehow cute...
  14. I once knocked out a Pak 75 and killed off all of the crew with the first spotting round [edit: from a 81mm mortar]. Doubt that will see that ever again!
  15. with Vampir troops included no doubt.
  16. Unfortunately I don't have a savegame, so going by memory: it was a regular crew that hadn't been shot at during the scenario. The platoon leader was not far away, and could be seen from the mortar position, so I assume at least visual contact although I have no clear recollection of that. Overall morale was high, as I had had at that point only four casualties altogether out of two companies. The rounds were not in flight at the same time. All in all no adverse effects as far as I know, but as said, this is from memory. Will save the game the next time this happens.
  17. I haven't bothered to make a test scenario for this, but mortar behaviour seems a bit wacky at times. For instance, yesterday I ordered a 60mm mortar take out a MG team behind a bocage while two squads of infantry were suppressing the MG with area fire. All were regular units. Mortar had clear line of sight to the MG as well as to all of the area in between them. The distance from the mortar to the MG was 230 metres. The first spotting round flew 140 metres -- not 2/3rds of the required distance -- and the next spotting round even less, 110 metres, under half of the distance to the target, and too close for comfort for the suppressing teams. Now, I can understand misjudging the distance for the first round, but as the crew saw the spot where the first round landed how can the second round be even shorter? Would make sense to shoot longer instead. Of course after the weird spotting rounds the crew started pumping the grenades onto the MG team with sniper accuracy. I tend to be a bit too aggressive and push attacking infantry too close to my own indirect fire, so spotting rounds landing short can sometimes ruin an attack. Since I tend to notice those easier than long rounds it colors my perception -- as said, haven't made a test scenario. But, anyone with similar observations?
  18. I saw something like this just a few minutes ago, albeit with infantry rather than an AC or a tank. I was taking out a wooden MG bunker from behind with two glider infantry teams; one team got in position first and started lobbing grenades at the bunker. The half-team in the bunker hunkered down for a moment, but then decided to charge out like berserkers, MP40s blazing and potato mashers flying! As I had messed up during the command phase, 2/3 of the other glider infantry team I had assaulting the bunker managed to come to the spot only after the bunker inhabitants had wiped out four guys from the first team, suppressed the rest and long since escaped unscathed. Perhaps things had been different if I had had enough firepower present to wipe them out at the bunker entrance, but alas no. Ok, I did yell at the screen when that minute was unfolding, but gotta admit it was a pretty cool scene to see despite the disappointing results!
  19. Lost three guys in three different units in an incident like that yesterday, although it was my fault to keep them too close together (two had gone through a bocage opening while the third was in the process of doing so). Magic bullets indeed.
  20. Yep, same problem here. With the first series I enjoyed playing small battles (500-700 points) against the AI as practice and pastime, and part of that was "making do with what you're given" instead of picking the units myself. But the current automatic unit purchasing code seems to prefer odd mixes like four stugs thrown together with a mortar platoon all the time, and I find that annoying.
  21. This is pretty jawdropping too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Coupole
  22. Which makes sense because in the theaters CMBB covered captured materiel was used a lot and in an organized way. I would think any future Ostfront CM would do the same -- captured Soviet weaponry was extensively used e.g. by the Finnish army. Heck, when I was doing my military service in 1990 we were trained to use DP-27s. The Finnish army borrowed about 9000 of those from the Soviets, and we didn't return them yet. This is of course a different matter from on-the-spot acquisitions.
  23. Enjoyed CMBO, loved CMBB, liked CMAK (the engine was getting a bit long in the tooth by then). Did buy CMSF and still have it installed, but never really got into it. I've been waiting for two games this year, the new IL-2 and CMBN. Reviews of the former are disappointing, so expecting even more from CMBN now! The AARs are encouraging, but as I don't do futures trading I haven't preordered. Give me a demo and then we'll see
  24. Speaking of Mecca, I was surprised to read about the Abraj Al Bait development a while ago. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=112555
