Comprehensive Sound Map

NCrawler

Recommended Posts

Listed below is a comprehensive sound map for CMAK. There are a few that I have not determined yet. They are marked with <-- next to the description. If you know what the sound refers to, please let me know so that I can update the list. The easiest way to determine what a sound refers to is to make a backup copy of the .wav, and drop in a replacement. I use a DTMF signal .wav file and then listen in-game for the sound that I dropped in. If you want to try this method out but do not know how to create a DTMF wave file, send me an email and I will send you some test files that I use. Here's the list:

From a post by Brizza

"After listening to the WAVs, I reckon:

70000+ = British

There are some thick British accents in there. That "Bloody British Weaponry" file, again has a British accent. These are unlikely to be from either South African, Australia or New Zealand

80000+ = Australian

Not a strong Australian accent, but most of them are suitably nasal enough to be Australian.

81800 has "strewth" in it = good Aussie slang

100000+ = New Zealand

Most of files here sound like the stuff I hear on local TV, a softer accent.

In all these groupings there are some that don't sound like they belong, but in general the files fit the groupings I've given

I couldn't find the South Africans or anything convincingly South African. The same with the Canadians.

Disclaimer: South African born, living in New Zealand. Not known for my musical ability (i.e. tone deaf) "

Once again, thank you. LOL, the only accent that I can hear with any degree of accuracy is Northern and Southern US accents. That ear-grating Yankee accent is hard to miss! smile.gif

Sounds like a job for someone other than me! smile.gif That would be one very large (and long) undertaking...

Cheers

00000170=Drumbeat, 00000171=Quit game explosion.

Both the above sounds can be discarded or replaced with others as they do not effect other sounds in the game. {These 2 files are

identical in BB aand 'AK btw). Myself, I have removed 171 from my WAV folder or in the past replaced it with another sound file.

There is a list of which phrase goes with which wav for CMBB Germans, Russians, and CMAK Italians at the Band of Brothers site. I've noticed that the phrases for each language for the same wav number (the first number would be different of course) are more or less the same. For example wav 31234 would say "Achtung Panzer" and wav 51234 would say "Tank spotted".

I got to check the BoB website again. I have the link somewhere....

Yes, phrases are mostly the same and only the file offset number makes the difference. Thus if one has figured out trigger events for a particualr nations voice files, one just has to consider the offset (first figure) for the other nations files.

IE german voice files 33300 - 33323 appear to be some sort of "Idle sound", used for (stationary?) unengaged infantry. Athmospheric filler. Might be these also indicate established contact to HQ units. Got to check this with "out of contact" units again.

Equivalent US voice sound files would be 53300 - 53318, obviously 5 sounds less than the german ones, but triggered from same game event. Example phrases: "Pay attention", "Ok Seargent", "Yes, Sir!", "Did you see that?"..and so on. German voice sound files are direct translations and resemble little to actual german command language used in WW2. Obviously only german native language speakers will ever notice this. Thus I call it "Hollywood style". :D

German voice sounds 32200 - 32208 are triggered by a (successful?) "rally" attempt. Not sure if this is self rally or with friendly HQ rally combined. Particular german phrases are partly funny. "Get up you cowards" (Steht auf ihr Feiglinge) or "Get up you pigs" (Steht auf ihr Schweine) is complete nonsense and can probably only be heard in bad Hollywood films from the 50-70 era. tongue.gif

The german phrases used for tank or AT combat are a little bit more realistic though.

I guess other nations voice files include similar Hollywood style phrases. Hopefully BFC makes their homeworks better for ToW! A little bit of research is all that needs to be done actually. :D

Nope, you wouldn't. I was tasked to do South African voice files during CMAK's development, but my sound computer hardware then was not up to scratch, so MadMatt bumped me off for being utter useless. Apologies to all.
