jcikal
What is the max. # of opponents I can play against (Single Player)? Are there any mods out there to increase the default max number of opponents? Thanks for any info.
Dogface
I dont understand your question. Single player is just one player. Now in multiplayer (TCP/IP and PBEM) there is a max of 2 players.

Jim1954
I think he was asking is there a limit on the number of email games he can have going at one time. jcikal, as many as you can keep track of. There are no saved games slots like the steel panthers series has, for instance. If you're asking something different, then nevermind.

Maybe he has previously played only Command & Conquer type games, in which you can have multiple AI opponents to give a greater challenge. Maybe. Or maybe I'm just full of **** as usual.
Jim1954
Probably so. Maybe I'm the one that's full of ****? Three posts in 2 1/2 years and 33% are wrong. Oh well. Back to getting schooled.

MikeyD
I think his question involves the SIZE of the opposing force? (I thought I heard that Napoleonic 'Grognards' game could get up to 50,000 troops for the truely insane.) If you've got a high-end system and lots of time to kill you can select units by the Battallion in the unit editor! There are a couple scenarios that are notorious for having far more troops on the map than most operating systems can do the math for in a reasonable amount of time. I've never heard of anyone trying to max-out the machine by selecting the max number of points and only selecting lowest-priced conscripts to filll the board to overflowing. Do that and you get a loooooooong time between turns!
jcikal
Thanks for responding everyone. And just for the record, I was asking how many opponents can I go against at the same time? For instance if there are 3 nations I'm fighting against, that would be 3 opponents or 3 teams if you will. That's what I'm actually asking. How many Opponents or teams or nations can you go against in single player games.
Jim1954
I think just one, unless you have 3 or 4 guys crowded around a PC somewhere, each taking turns plotting moves and then sending the one saved turn to you.
junk2drive
I you are playing a QB vs the AI, only one nation. If you are playing a battle or op that someone has made, they could pick more than one nation. IOW you could be USA plus some Brits vs Germans and Italians if the designer made it that way.
dieseltaylor
I can see that it is possible to have French, US, British and NZ troops against the Italian/Germans. However as this is very ahistoric I would not recommend at any time mixing nationalities. It certainly happened during the war but on very rare occasions. Most players will throw a wobbly if you were to spring it upon them as a surprise.
Joachim
To sum up - you fight one opposing player (that might be the AI). He can handle several nations. Just as you can handle several nations. As mentioned above some teams could mail the game around and each player of a team would only handle certain units - but Multiplayer had to be done by house rules. There's no feature to enforce that players of such a team keep to their units. Gruß Joachim

Sergei
jcikal, you have an Axis player, and an Allied player. The Axis player might have Germans, or Italians, or Germans AND Italians. The Allied player might have US, Brits, French, South Africans, Aussies, New Zealanders or Polish, OR any combination of those. Either way, it doesn't have any other effect than what units the Axis or the Allied player has in his disposal. The AI doesn't give a damn what the 'nations' are, it just gives orders to the units it has. There's no discrimination.
birdstrike
Yes, there are only units as far as the AI is concerned, no "players" or "nations". Those units just happen to be of a certain nationality. ; ) You can see how it works, if you select "unrestricted" for the nationality in a Quickbattle. You can choose any unit of any nation of this particular side (axis or allies). Don't forget to select "allow human" for unit selection.
Soddball
The nations have special powers. For example, the Italians (or Garovingians, as we like to call them) cast balls of flaming pasta from their Punishment Catapults. The Germans (or Horde) have Zerg Tanks which are OMG teH R0XOR.
Philippe
But above all, the nations rage...
