Tank Man
Does anyone else use Mardars? I use them instead of buying a PaK. Just consider them to be highly mobile, small arms immune, extra ammo field guns. If you do that then you should go a long way with them. In my opinion Mardars are better than other tanks with equal sized guns. What do you think?
zero the hero
haven't used them that much. don't really know how to. have found the conventional paks to be much more useful even if a lot more restricted. seems to me marders are painted red and screaming shoot me. they draw a lot of fire. and take time to use. Panzer Leader
I've used Marders a bit (I like the Marder II better than III) but I LOVE the Hetzer. That little monster is TOUGH!
Kingfish
A Stugs a better buy. Better armor, smaller target, more ammo (I think), plus it will shrug off those pesky 2" and 60mm mortar rounds (most of the time)
Mr. Johnson--
Still, they can do the same damage as a PZ-IV, and they are cheaper. They do have their place. But because of fast turreted, quick reloading Shermans, I Think its best to use the Marder with Pak or other AT units.
zero the hero
i love hetzers. marders and nashorns seem so awkward. and at the combat mission distances the machine guns are essential.
Francesco
Glad to see those 90mm AP broking away reflected by the SUPER GREAT EXTRAORDINAY HETZER!
Ellros
Marders aren't bad... as long as you are not facing mortars and .50 cal mg's. Use them as long range TD's and you'll do okay. Think of them as a slow, non-turreted Hellcat. Shoot and Scoot.

Tiger
What I hate is that BTS does not model the Marder II and III nor the Nashorn as having a MG34 7.92 mg, which IIRC they did have. I guess BTS didn't want to be too terrible historically accurate. These vehicles would be slightly more useful with the mg34 they're supposed to have. At least they could defend themselves from nearby infantry without having to turn the whole vehicle around to fire the main gun. -John
zero the hero
been thinking about the same thing tiger. visited achtungpanzer and read all the stuff about the nazi warmachines. a lmg can make all the difference.
gredeker
IMO, the Marder is great for two things: 1) long range ambush (followed by a speedy retreat) and 2) putting some hurt on infantry at long range in the absence of enemy armor. I'm working on a scenario that replicates a "thrown together" defense on the Cherbourg peninsula, with green occupation troops. It seemed appropriate to have the armor be a Marder III and a couple H39s.
Pvt.Tom
Used them once against a couple of M5A1s and got my ass kicked, you have to be very careful with them, IMHO they seem more vunerable that AT guns, much bigger and one 37mm round takes them out. Mattias
Add to this... Nothing beats the Marder III on bad ground conditions. I ran a great German armour snow test and the Marder III was running circles around the competition. M.
MikeyD
On the positive side the Marders are very mobile compared to those semi-stationary AT guns, on the negative side after the first shot they seem to stand out like a thinly-armored sore thumb. I should probably practice some 'shoot-&-scoot' techniques. Hmmm... Marder/Nashorn machine guns? Doesn't sound familiar.
Stalins Organ
Marders use up "Armour" points, so are generally not worth having for any reason except an "Armour" heavy game IMO.
Tank Man
Ok, The whole reason why I use Mardars is because I play 700 pt quick battles (700 pt so that they don't take more than 2 hours). They are my best bet for taking out my opponents take. Why you ask? Because they are slightly more stealthy than the M4 (which my opponent constantly uses. Ricochet
I’m going to start an 800pt, combined arms game where I’m the Germans. I have only 160pts of armor to choose with. I figured I’d go with a Hetzer and a Murder as opposed to a Stag and a Lynx or one Mike. I figure I’ll need something to watch the sides and rear of the Hetzer. I have 75mm halftracks that can take care of infantry. On that note which do you consider better 3x 250/8 (75mm) or 2x 251/9 (75mm)
