CMBO Pirates, what to do?

Recommended Posts

Ok i just came across a bloke in the CMHQ chat room who admitted he has a pirate copy of CMBO.

I don't know about you but i payed $115 Australian Dollars to get CMBO and i'm really not keen on this pirate buisness.

What can we do with them? Maybe we can use them as target practise for our snipers? Test new Chemical weapons on them?

Well i normally wouldn't do anything like this but these people cost you and me money plus rip off BTS which has many consiquences.

I got his E-Mail address travispol@aol.com he called him self killer.

I also got his IP but i think i'll leave it there smile.gif

You could turn him in, but it would be more hassle for BTS than it would be worth.

The sad truth is that piracy will get worse as CM gets more popular.

I think that BTS is and will fare better than most game publishers as its core audience is more mature and is willing to invest in the game as a hobby, not just a quick fling.

I had the stats somewhere but the estimated ratio of people who paid for Unreal Tournament to users of pirate copies was something in the vicinity of 3 to 4.

CM will probably fare much better than that.

What I've done:

- Not made any copies to my friends (of any game at all, so CM is no exception).

- Urged my friends to buy CM from the site, which they've done.

I've only encoutered one person that used a pirate copy of CM, and that with a very reasonable cause. He lives in China, and if he orders CM by mail it will most certainly be lost en route (all copies sent). Bying a copy on the street costs $1.50, and is delivered directly.

Cheers

Simple solution:

1. Friend orders CM from BTS.

2. Friend also buys pirated copy on street for $1.50.

3. Mail-ordered copy is lost in mail.

BTS sells one copy. Friend receives one copy for only a buck-fifty more. Everyone happy.

I just signed him up to recieve a price quote from a car dealer's banner ad on my website. I get two clams, BTS gets a website about CM, and he gets a price quote on an '87 Nissan pickup. It's a win-win-win deal, especially if he buys the truck. Think I should sign him up for the diet program as well?

And as if that wasn't enough, I signed him up for free tshirt news, the most vicious spam provider I know. You cannot get rid of their emails merely by unsubscribing, you practically have to use death threats.

Geez. Why don't you just subscribe him to some gay porn newsletters while you're at it.

As a struggling student I was unable to justify the cost of buying CM.However,I went halves with a friend of mine in a similar predicament and we now do a week about with the CD.We have resisted the urge to burn a CD copy off as we both support the ethos of BTS.We meet one day a week(usually),where we play a hot seat game and hand the CD over to whoevers turn it is.This also means that at least 2 weeks in every month we actually manage to get some studying done. smile.gif

Chek.

I hate to do this to you as you will probably NEVER graduate, but remember for tcp/ip games, only one person needs the CD...so you can play EVERY night!!!! buahahhahahahha

You're right, I shouldn't have said or done that, but I was kind of mad at the time. I've gotta stop posting right after eating lunch. smile.gif

Gustav, I have just signed you up to some "interesting" mailing lists located on the hook of Holland, I do hope that you don't mind, but I disagreed with what you said about... disabled people or something.

But I was mad!

I would submit that the Chinese are not pirating CM, rather they are detaining it. :D

Until they get a real apology from George Bush.

And by then they'll have figured out how to use it, and they'll probably start sending it to us  smile.gif

Guys, I said I was sorry. You're right, I shouldn't have done that. Now let's drop the subject, ok?

Gustav: you are a fool. You signed a total stranger, based on the allegations of somesome else, onto obscene mailing lists. Personally I think you should be booted from the forum.

I couldn't agree with you more on the fool part. It wasn't an obscene mailing list, though. For the third time I'm sorry I did this. If it would make you or anyone else feel better, go ahead and sign me up for anything or send me flames or somefink; my email address is in my profile.

Now can we please drop the subject?
