L.Tankersley
Well, a good general rule of thumb is, use historical tactics. They were used in real life for good reasons, and most of those reasons are modeled in CM to one degree or another. There's a good tutorial by our very own Los going through the Grafenwohr scenario in the articles section of CMHQ at http://combathq.thegamers.net/articles/articles.asp , as well as some other useful articles. There's also a ton of information here and in the Tips and Techniques forum, although you'll have to do a bit of digging to find it. The "search" function is your friend, if you can narrow down your search terms enough to avoid being overwhelmed by data. ------------------ Leland J. Goofy
Look at CMHQ and check Fionn Kelley's translation of the German training circular called Panzer Vorwarts! Aber mit Verstand! Good ideas there from the officers in action. Goofy ------------------ Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!
Guest Silesian-jaeger
Platoon tactics. Have Platoon Headquarters and 1 squad (or MG team ) provide cover fire while charging the other squads forward. Continue to leapfrog forward like this until you take your objectives. Use tanks to follow up infantry and exploit breakthroughs where possible.

deanco
You must balance the natural compassion you feel for your men against the necessity of accomplishing the mission objectives. Pretend you are a real commander, and your men are real men. What would you ask them to do for you? If it seems reasonable to you, you're on the road to giving good orders to your men. Havermeyer
Fionn's After Action Reports (AARs). They can be lengthy, but what you will learn from one will go a long way. ------------------ "Two World Wars and One World Cup, do da, do da!" --British Hooligan, sung to Camptown Races

Guest barrold713
Keep your infantry out of raining barrages of HE as much as possible. A cold beer almost soothes the loss of your last decent armor unit. machinegun fire is only good when it's outgoing. ------------------ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb discussing what to have for lunch. Eric Alkema
Keeping your infantry in the trees is a good thing because it makes them harder to spot. That is until the artillery and or mortars start raining down on your head, then it is actually worse than being in the open. The shells periodically hit tree branches and explode in the air, raining shrapnel down on you. Is that cool or what?
Havermeyer
Buy 12 JagdTigers. You don't need no stinking tactics. ------------------ "Two World Wars and One World Cup, do da, do da!" --British Hooligan, sung to Camptown Races
Ted
Always keep your infantry in the command radius of your HQ’s. Squads tend to break sooner if not in command and it takes longer for them to carry out orders.
